Ben Brown.

Yes please. :thumbsu:

Would be very happy to see Brown's name read out by Rogers on Thursday night.

Big boy at 21 years of age who had a good year and really impressed me on the number of occasions I saw him play throughout 2013.

Wouldn't be out of the question to see him line up come round 1 if we draft him.

Brett Anderson has again stated that we are likely to take Cripps with our pick 13.
The other option he mentioned was McCarthy.

Carlton are one of the few clubs that do tend to keep their targets pretty close to their chest.
I wouldn't mind betting Anderson and a few others are just taking educated guesses.

I don't understand the Brown who-ha, 26 goals in a season, doesn't scream fantastic player (although I understand he would be a project like Rowe)

In your opinion.

Few had even considered Cripps or Dunstan prior to the last few days. Now Dunstan is suddenly a must have. This draft sounds more like the 2008 and 2009 drafts that were even. Futile to declare Dunstan or someone else a no brainer compared to Cripps.

Where has she put out a different name?

She has attacked our recruiting staff with their history of reaching. As if she'd know any more than MCB. This isn't constructive criticism based on knowing these players inside out. I know how she feels about Bootsma who was on the radar of other clubs.

Different names I have mentioned in the last couple of weeks - Lennon, Salem, Sheed, Dunstan, Bontempelli, Acres. All of which could be available (maybe except Bontempelli) at our pick who I rate higher than Cripps.

I don't see how my opinion of Bootsma is relevant to my opinion of Cripps. I was willing to back the club's judgement in wanting to trade Bootsma - how is that attacking the recruiting staff?

And in the past we have reached. I specifically said PAST because I was referring to 2010 & 2011. Rowe was a reach IMO.

So you're criticising me for having an opinion about who we should take at 13, whilst you choose not to. Which is fine. It's called having an opinion. Just like you have about some of our players.

I'm on the Cripps bandwagon.

A clearance winning mid at 190cm+ sounds exciting. Probably a little risky and a slightly more 'project' type than a few other ready made players available. I'm dreaming but I can picture a Pendlebury/Kennedy cross

He doesn't have to be a fantastic player to be a worthwhile selection, particularly at pick 51 or even later.

Not every player can be a star. If we pick up a player who fills a need and is ready to go from day dot, I certainly won't be complaining.

Brown likely won't be a star but at 21 there's no reason why he can't make it at AFL level. He's physically huge and a real competitor who will throw his weight around. Can take a terrific contested mark and is very reliable in front of goals. Showed in 2013 that he can hit the scoreboard hard with 8 bags of 3 or more goals.

Also worth noting he's big enough to push into the ruck as he did throughout this season.

He's not a must have by any stretch of the imagination but I think he'd be a terrific fit for us. I certainly won't be devastated should we not take him but I do believe he'll get picked up on Thursday night and at pick 51 if he's still there I'd like us to seriously consider it.

Good assessment. He also played in a forward line that liked to spread the goals around (Warren, 59, Brown 29, McKinley, 25, Clouston, 20, Daw 15), as well as pinch-hitting in the ruck and at times pushing further up the ground

Wow so this Bontempelli to Dogs thing is gaining legs...very surprising.
I can understand Scharenberg sliding a couple of spots due to injury but I'd still rank Aish as the best available.

Bontempelli and KK have more upside because they're taller and can play in more positions I guess...

looking over that draft I saw a lot of mistakes, so I don't put a lot of faith in it, in saying that I believe Crouch will still be a very good player at AFL level so I would be too upset, the issue is will others be better and the answer is most probably yes.
If you go back 40 pages and 3 weeks back in this thread, you'd probably find Crouch was the draftee-de-jour due to his ball magnetism.

Faster, more versatile types with cleaner disposal seem to have surpassed Crouch in the groupthink but he'd be a legitimate choice at 13. 40 touches at 65% effectiveness is more valuable than 25 at 75% ;)

Conlon's injuries aren't terminal or anything though - shoulder, hip, knee. I'd be more concerned if he re-injured the same body part...

Either way, you can never have enough tall Camerons. We're in the frame at pick 13 (McCarthy) or pick 39 (Giles) or pick 51 (Conlon) or as a rookie (Darcy).

I'd take one of the Jeremy kind....
