Don't see the point in getting Mccarthy with p 13. Why get a project forward who is years away from making a impact and will only be useful when we are rebuilding? Address our midfield issues now and get good KPP next year. Judd won't play on unless we finish higher then expected.

Cripps, Marsh, McStay, Cavarra, Thorp, Lambert, Scotland.

That's a draft mix that should keep everyone happy.

It would be possible to debate/argue the individual merits of each of these players, but as a balanced group, on a needs basis this would be hard to top. There are 6-8 probable options at #13 that we could continue to throw around. Lets face it, we are all at the mercy of the media machine as to the comparative merits of each. No matter how well we research, there is no guaranteed optimum outcome.

This group gives us an inside "bull", followed by a line breaking dasher who is still somewhere between mid and KPP, McStay probably 2nd best KPD in draft, with some forward creds, Cavarra, undersized, maybe, but a leader who would be in first 2 rounds if a couple of inches taller. My old mate Thorpie, ready to go up forward. With Lambert and Scotland joining Cachia and the Irish on the Rookie list.
Other than a KPF/Ruck type everything we would need from a 40/4 model. Big thumbs up

Note: Still like McCarthy if he makes it to #13.

Would be very happy to see Brown's name read out by Rogers on Thursday night.

Big boy at 21 years of age who had a good year and really impressed me on the number of occasions I saw him play throughout 2013.

Wouldn't be out of the question to see him line up come round 1 if we draft him.

I just watched his highlights package - good size (barbarian like) and moves well .... his marking left a bit to be desired though, tends to double grab the mark as opposed to the old 'clunk'.

I suppose he's still young and that can be ingrained within him in a full time AFL training environment.

I'm seriously torn.

On the one hand - I think it may be easier to get the best KPP available at Pick #39 (the second best in the draft) if he still on board and then load up on foot soldier midfielders at #39, #51

However, I see much excitement in Cripps given his frame (192 cms, 90 kgs) and what he can offer around the contest so far as bullocking work- therefore, if we take him at Pick #13, we can select a Joel Tippett (#51?) to hold down a KPD spot which would ultimately send Henderson up forward to fill this need..... and then look to recruit a KPP in next years tall rich draft.

.... or we could recruit a Ben Brown, Conlon, Thorp type player later on in the draft.

Disappointing to read. That certainly didn't last long. Confident it won't throw us out of whack for Thursday night but it's a loss for next year and beyond.

Will be very interesting to see who we bring in down the track to bolster the recruiting team and fill that void.

How it could realistically pan out. McCarthy will likely be gone, which then looks like Cripps is the back up plan. I think Harvey will be available at 39. I think teams looking for key forwards or ruck/ forwards will take Marsh, Appennes, Hourigan, Nankervis prior to pick 39. I also believe that all the decent key back will take up draft spots in the 20s and 30s allowing Harvey to slide. Eg, Cutler, Fort, Giles, McStay and Brother of KK, Harvey would have some development time as Thorpe is ready to go.

Can't do much more than that.
What is potentially exciting about Cripps is his height. A 192cm mid is something to really salivate over.

That is seriously concerning. We get the guy in May. He has worked under the recruiter that built Geelong's list. He leaves 2 weeks before the draft for 'personal issues'. Not too many personal issues that necessitate you having to leave your job in this industry. It's usually code for 'didn't agree with the direction we were taking' or 'didn't get along with others'.

My concern is that we run things completely different to Geelong and he can't work like that. With the Cats position still open, he may be foregoing any extra cash he was offered to switch and going back to a system he trusts.

A lot of assumption in that I know, but getting a Cats recruiter from them amidst much fanfare and having them depart, leaving us with the original two guys who have been around for a while and some Dees recruiter in another role, makes me cross my fingers. Hopefully Williams had no real part in Geelong's success and just found it hard to work within a different system.

It's usually code for someone getting another job in the AFL. After 14 years at the Cats, Williams would probably want to head up his own recruiting department. He's already been part of a successful recruiting team. Not much left for him to achieve in that role.

Rogers isn't going to lose out if both want to be the number one. More likely a friendly power struggle than personal issues. Wouldn't believe News Ltd.

The timing of his departure from Geelong did seem a little strange.

I hope we target Rendell from Collingwood. Yes there was the whole issue with him making a racist comment, but he still is one of the best talent spotters in the country.
