Does anybody else think there will be a chuckle throughout the audience if Brisbane draft McStay? :D
Perhaps but anguished tears from 1 Carlton fan watching the webcast. :(

He's exactly the raw mobile KP swingman we need at pick 39 to replace Paddy Mac in order to release the Hendo on a permanent basis!

Should we have some sort if nearest the pin for our three picks?
1-McCarthy - I reckon the Cripps stuff only started happening when the rumours about Collingwood being interested in McCarthy also happened, Pies wont take McCarthy and we will.
2-Crouch - Has been the big slider and so much negativity towards him, perhaps he will slide down to our 2nd pick.
3- Thorpe - no more needs to be said.

Don't get the hype about McCarthy. Underdeveloped project forward who is only getting attention since this is a weak KPP draft. Let's get a mid and grab a decent KPP next year.
How is 194cm undersized, Nick Riewoldt is 1.93, Travis Cloke & Josh Kennedy are 1.96 so only 2cms taller and its not uncommon for a tall 18 year old kid to grow an extra few cms after there 18th birthday.

It's extremely unlikely that Crouch's name doesn't get called within the first 30 names tonight.

He said Underdeveloped, not undersized. McCarthy will take 2-3 years to be ready for regular AFL footy - time we may not have with our current window.

Hasn't played much footy in his life either. All our project picks in the first round tend to end up hurting us.

Big Mistake if we take Cripps over Freeman, Aish, Lennon, Salem or especially if Bontempelli slip there and Cameron McCarthy what the hell there as a forward. I can understand why the Geelong recruiter took off if we rate him higher than these guys he looks like another kid that need many years in the Gym. It's a bad pick i have vision. We need to recruit toughness not someone that going to be a good speaker and look nice in a suit that goes to Harvard.

Problem is, we seem often to draft KPP on the never-never. We haven't spent a 1st or 2nd round pick on a 'decent' KPF since Josh Kennedy - 8 years ago.

Drafting McCarthy who wouldn't be a first round pick in a better KPP draft won't help with that record.

Then we traded him back to WA (his home state). So last time we drafted a half decent KPF from WA in the first round it didn't go well. Something tells me we've learnt from this and will take Cripps as the right choice and pick up a KPF in the later rounds/rookie draft.

I am not convinced it is that unlikely, he doesn't appear in anyone's top 20 picks and then there are a few speculative picks that will be thrown in and enough of a bad smell around Crouch for people to let him slide and keep sliding.

Not to mention how poorly we were developing Kennedy. WC couldn't believe how unfit he was.

Say no more then, I'd be more than happy to pick up a genuine young inside mid described as a general in congestion, even if people may, as usual, mock us for picking a mid over a tall.

JUDD?

My point is we haven't drafted a tall forward, good or bad, with a high pick, at all in those 8 years.

You say McCarthy wouldn't be a first round pick on what basis? Provided a handy target for WA and finished U18 AA in his first season of competitive footy. :thumbsu: The young man has raw ability. Has some development left in him but don't most raw 18 year olds?

Pretty much any tall selected at that kind of mark is a big if that they will pan out. Could well go the same route as Paddy Mac and be gone within 3 or 4 years :( Definitely looks a likely type though!

He is the best inside midfielder in this draft, he has his flaws but he has qualities that will see him going in late first round to early second round. There is no way he'll be around by the time our 2nd pick comes, which is the start of the 3rd round.
Gotta be dreaming if you think we can draft Crouch with our second pick.

3rd best in a weak KPP draft is nothing to be getting excited over.

Senior football against men is a bit different to under 18s. Don't think his transition to AFL will be so smooth when he comes up against grown men with ridiculously organized defenses.

Never hit the gym in his entire life and still is quite skinny which suggests to me that he is a ectomorph which we have trouble developing. Seems like a player whose chances of success would be around 50/50. He either never puts on weight ( P McCarthy) and fails to make the grade or starts playing AFL footy once we are rebuilding.
