In terms of Cripps' athleticism that people are worried about, I don't see the problem.
The Kid can play.
If you watch carefully his first few steps are not even slow, with strength and conditioning, and do more in terms of power lifting, like as NFL players do, he doesn't need to be fast, just needs a quick burst in the first few steps and that is plenty of time to make decisions to figure out what to do with the ball.
He already has some traits that good footballers possess, especially that awareness of what is going on around him. Within an AFL environment and training he'll only get better.

And if you use Barlow for an example. He broke his leg in 2010 and didn't really reach full fitness until this year (2013). So given Cripps did his leg in 2012, there's still a lot of fitness to be regained :)

On reflection of our drafting: Tick

Glad we didn't draft a flanker.

My only concern is that we didn't recruit anyone with exceptional foot skills.

Giles has exceptional foot skills. And Cripps isn't exactly a turnover merchant. Not too sure about Holman.

Free. Nothing. Zilch.

Yep. Some people may have thought other kids could/should have been drafted, but overall our recruiting gets a very big tick for the decisions in the last two years. Hopefully we get someone of quality to replace Luke Williams to continue this trend in the future.

If the kids we have selected fail, I think it would be fair to say that development is the area we are falling down in. Our recruiting staff have identified talent, selected and traded for them wisely and are setting us up well for the future. If that trend continues, we will go from strength to strength.

It's about time too!!!

I think

I think the fact that in a draft thin with decent talls his name was not called by any of the 18 clubs may give a clue to where he sits. Say no more .
I would have been surprised if any team had selected him in the ND & I'm not sure it would be worth his while to move from Tassie for a rookie listing.

From looking through the entire list of players who nominated for the draft, there were plenty of ex-AFL players who, like Thorp, felt they were worthy of a second (in some cases, even third) chance at an AFL career, but were overlooked by all 18 clubs. It is so hard to get onto an AFL list. Players certainly need to dot all the 'i's & cross all the 't's to get an opportunity, particularly those looking for a second chance.

A bit early to call that, we still are missing a KPF and again are going into a season reliant on Jarred Waite not getting injured or suspended, with no real back up plan.

Would you be happy if Giles's name was McCarthy or Gardiner?

Then you could buy the hype fed to us by BF and the media.

It's a great side for the future if they weren't developed by Melbourne

Speaking of the PSD, can someone kindly explain how it works in terms of determining the order and which teams have picks. I've never understood it.

Roos is there to help set them up and bring in another Longmire once his contract is up.

Don't know why a few of their fans aren't happy with Salem. They're enamoured with Freeman because he is quick. Salem is reportedly a better kick and a tough footballer.

Makes me wonder if there's a chance we'll draft Cornelius etc here. I'm a little hazy about how many rookies we can play in the seniors without the unfortunate trade-off of a longterm injury. We'd expect both Scotland and Cachyia are obvious frontrunners for nom rookie spot - where would that leave our remaining four rookies?

This seems a pretty salient section:
"The main reason for players not nominating in the National draft is that those who nominate for the Pre-season draft may set the terms for their contracts; in contrast, all players selected in the National Draft are not able to set a minimum acceptable contract period or salary."

No not really, going into the trade and Draft, almost 100% of all Blues fans would have put getting a key fwd as our biggest priority. There is no doubting the players we got during the trade period will make us better but I just pray that we don't revisit this in round 10 when Waite goes down with a Hammy and again have the conversation we have had for the past 4 years about why we don't have any back up plan, and inevitably rob peter to pay Paul and throw Kruezar fwd, which we all know is not going to win us a flag.

You do realise had we got McCarthy he wouldn't be ready for senior footy for 2 or 3 years? Would be useless if Waite gets injured.
