Were a bigger stronger team with limited injuries
Hurley the Best Defender in the comp
We get Maloney from the Demons
We get Caddy / Boak aswell

Anyone remember when Burgoyne went to the hawks it was a surprise every other club was super keen and pushing for him but he picked the hawks hoping thats the same as boak and the bombers

Difference is that Hawthorn clearly had the capacity to do damage.

We don't.

God I hope not...

Feel dirty for just saying this.. but I have a niggling feeling that Joe Daniher may not be quite AFL ready to step up and dominate in his first season like many hope in this thread.

Im predicting him to be kept in cotton wool, given plenty of time to develop in VFL and supporters getting restless and angry at his non-debut until finally TRB/match committee succumbs to the pressure and gives him a couple of games in Rnd 22/23 in which he has a mediocre 7 disposals, 2 marks and 1.0 debut.. bringing the wrath and jeers of jealous opposition, media and even a few of our own muppet supporters who starts making comparisons to Jack Watts.

Bit of a negative Early Call I know, but Im trying to be realistic here. Know he will be a super gun, but may need some time!*
Would absolutely love to be proven wrong though!

*Note: my view may have stemmed from my long-time support and love for the big Gumbles in which every year I declare that its finally his year to dominate, only to be humbly taught patience as a virtue..

Also Gumbleton to win the Coleman kicking 79 goals in 2013 and take the crown of best contested mark! :D:p

-There will be plenty of huff and puff, but nothing will be done at the trade table.
-8-10 win for the year.
-Hurley's body will fail him again.
-Zaharakis will establish himself as our second best mid.
-Will fall in a heap at the end of the year due to injuries yet again.
-Fletcher will still walk into any team's best 22 in the comp.

In 2013 we finally develop a sustainable game plan/kick out strategy & shelve the run & gun hope for best crap (a lot of other teams without a real game plan currently use this unsustainable method atm.)
Slight changing of the guard with 3-5 players breaking into to our best 22 including a player we acquire in the trade period.
TBC to demand No1 ruck spot & Paddy to be tried in several different rolls.
Myers has his breakout year & Heppell finally gets a haircut

1. Stanton shines again for the season, not because he's any better or fitter but because Zaharakis is fit and attracting the first tag which is allowing Stants to do what he does best.
2. Zaharakis has an alright but not outstanding season as he acclimatises to taggers. A scapegoat in the media and BF, but internally well recognised for the big picture.
3. Pears slims down by 3-4kgs and returns to some very solid form down back where he learns to again trust his instincts and not look like a wind up robot when kicking the footy.
4. Bellchambers plays two good games in a row.
5. Nick O'Brien, Kav, Davis and Browne entrench themselves in the best 22. (You could argue that Browne has nearly done that already)
6. Hocking reminds everyone why he achieved runner-up B&F after an amazing pre-season where he sets the standard.
7. Hird comes under serious pressure from the media after a "coaching killing" defeat to Gold Coast. Gold Coast then pants Collingwood at home a fortnight later and some perspective is given to the situation. Young and erratic.
8. Ratten coaches Port Adelaide.
9. Tex Walker doesn't win the Coleman..... he absolutely shits it in.
10. Freo are the team to beat
11. Cotchin gets a serious injury, Richmond finish nowhere.
12. Carlton struggle early, but charge home under Malthouse. Serious premiership threat (god dammit)

OH NO YOU BLOODY DON'T

Despite about 20 threads to the contrary Essendon will fail to secure a trade.

Essendon's soft tissue injuries will decrease but it will be made up for by an increase in collision type injuries and we will scarcely be better off by the end of the season.

Daniher will show talent but be somewhat injury plagued by minor injuries (very likely given his height, his age and the club he will play for).

Myers will cement a spot and become one of our best 4 midfielders (I'm thinking Watson/Zaharakis/Stanton/Myers in that order). Although Howlett will be thereabouts as well.

We will start the season on fire like this year, only to get progressively worse after the bye for about 6-7 weeks then maybe if our injuries are a bit better than this year we may make a mini recovery and make it to the finals.

We will beat Melbourne finally but lose to Gold Coast.

In early January, rumours begin to circulate concerning the true nature of Essendon's new facilities at Tullamarine. After the emergence of numerous witness reports of strange deliveries of unusual plant and machinery, Damian Barrett attends onsite to investigate. Much to his dismay, the buildings are empty, and there are no traces of anything untoward, and he reports as such, complimenting the Club on its progress and cooperation with real journalistic reporters. Public concerns and AFL eyebrows are dissolved and lowered respectively, and pre-season continues.

In an unprecedented move, to flaunt the new facilities and again attempt to push through the 50,000 member barrier, the Club grants public access to each and every training session at Tullamarine. Supporters and members are ecstatic, and attend in the thousands to see their boys prepare for the season ahead. Unfortunately, Fletcher, Hurley and Watson are reported to have succumbed to injury, and are not seen on the track. The Club pushes on.

In February 2012, the Club hosts family day at Windy Hill, maintaining the historic ties and tradition surrounding the Club's former home. The autograph lines are densely populated, as ever, but still, Watson, Fletcher and Hurley are no-shows. A child kicks a footy into the grandstand, and Gumbleton retrieves it for him, much to his delight.

Proceeding to the upcoming NAB Cup matches, the grasses of the Tullamarine fields wither, and die, creating a forlorn look about the new facility and drawing media criticism and supporter angst. The Club states that the facilities are first-rate, and the Club will be extremely competitive in the season ahead.

The Club loses its NAB Cup matches, and NAB Challenge matches. The supporters blame the results on the absence of Fletcher, Watson and Hurley, but the Club maintains that those players will be ready for Round 1 of the season proper.

In the week leading into the season, GWS rolls Sydney, and Richmond finally defeat Carlton as Cotchin wins 73 disposals and kicks 0.13 to be best-on. Judd rolls his ankle and never plays again. EFC is due to play against North Melbourne, and names its team. However, there is an anomaly in the team sheet, as it reads like this:

Fletcher Fletcher Fletcher
Fletcher Fletcher Fletcher
Watson Watson(c) Watson
Hurley Hurley Hurley
Hurley Hurley Hurley

Ryder Watson Watson

Int: Fletcher Watson Watson Watson

Putting it down to a technical error, the AFL issue a please-explain and expect a proper team sheet to be filed immediately. TRB re-submit the same team sheet, unaltered.

The AFL demands an explanation from the Club, who reply that they have listed 22 players who are registered with the Club and will take to the field. Demetriou, smug because he has milked all he can from the game and feels omnipotent and omniscient, decides to call the Club's bluff and permits the team sheet to be accepted in the expectation that the Club will field four players and be forced to forfeit, thus handing his beloved Roos a freebie to start its 2013 campaign.

On match day, a full house attend Etihad Stadium to witness the debacle unfolding. The Club has refused all press conferences since Thursday night, and has maintained strict radio and video silence for all players and staff.

As the Club song begins to play, the new Essendonian clone army emerges from the depths of the stadium and breaks through the banner. 7 Fletchers, 6 Hurleys, 8 Watsons and Patrick Ryder burst onto the ground to the amazement and shock of 55,000 witnesses.

The EFC had built a secret scientific laboratory beneath the MCG-sized field at Tullamarine, and had spent the summer cloning its three favourite sons. Though the experiments had tarnished the training surface, the net result was a resounding success, with each clone having the same capabilities as the source subject.

Since a situation such as this has never before been contemplated, there were no AFL rules to prevent each of them from taking to the field contemporaneously. The AFL immediately moved to ban any similar future scenarios from recurring, but the laws cannot be applied retrospectively.

Needless to say, the remainder of the usual senior squad play for the new Essendon VFL reserves, and blitz the field to complete the AFL/VFL double.

I so want to like this post :)
