Would you drive down to Canberra if GWS played us in Canberra?

Yeah. I was going to drive down for the Lions v Doggies NAB Challenge game in Canberra a few years back, except our car went in for repairs over that weekend. Skoda's much nicer than Manuka though.

Slightly off topic but it was a really stupid move by GWS to play home games in Canberra, especially when they are trying to market themselves as a Western Sydney team.

The AFL wants GWS to be self-sustaining, and the Canberra $$$ are part of that. There's not enough dedicated GWS supporters in Western Sydney to really kick up a stink about it yet IMO.

I'll have yet another go at making a fixture (making it more realistic as we won't get all bottom 5 teams twice and accommodating a friends request for a home game against Hawthorn):

Home = maroon
Away = blue
Again all times are local times. This fixture will be done under the assumption that I can't move back the starting time of the Saturday Night games.

Such a short sighted move though.

Same to Port, Melbourne, Saints, Hawthorn, Dogs, Richmond and North?
Port play all home games in Adelaide and the others are old Victorian clubs that only recently started doing it are different as they regularly get games in Melbourne.

GWS missed the opportunity to market themselves as the real NSW club (after all the Swans relocated from Sth Melbourne) and alienate potential Western Sydney based supporters by regularly playing home games in another state. It will also make it harder for Canberra to get its own team in the future.

4 away games and 20 games in Qld, same sort of preferential treatment Collingwood get...:D
Plus the Grand Final at the 'Gabba regardless of who plays.

Mate, no offence but you're talking rubbish. The Swans moved up here so long ago that no one cares that they were South Melbourne. It'd be like Gold Coast marketing them as the "real" Queensland club because the Lions have some Fitzroy heritage. Many of the Swans supporters are too young to remember the shift directly. I'm not a huge fan of not having 11 home games, but we saw this year exactly why they include Canberra - a small town, a smaller stadium, but the crowds were comparable. I'd rather have a local team in ten years time that plays three games in Canberra than no club in ten years time.

You're telling me why GWS supporters should be upset. I'm telling you, as a GWS supporter and member, that they aren't.

2013 fixture wish-list

- 7 games in Victoria - 6 in Melbourne. (No doubt there will be the obligatory game at Geelong.)
- The majority of Victorian games to be fixtured on Saturday evening with at least two-three games to be fixtured when Fitzroy play at Brunswick Street on Saturday afternoon.
- The majority of Victorian games to be at the MCG, (especially those fixtured for Saturday afternoon).

Such a short sighted move though.

What's the difference with Hawthorn and North playing games in Tasmania, Richmond in far NQ etc and even us getting more games in Melbourne compared to other non-Victorian teams.

The AFL want a presence in all major centres across Australia and achieve that with GWS playing games in the nation's capital, not to mention GWS having a greater catchment area to generate support, which was after all a strategic and smart decision.

Well looks like we've been dudded again. Despite having a contract with the AFL for easter thursday that's going to the Carlton vs Richmond landslide that occurs every year.

Hope we are getting something well worth it back for that sort of concession.

More arvo/twilight home games and less night home games would be a perfect compromise for me.

We'll probably get a Friday Night home game against Collingwood.

I get the feeling that we may be given a relatively good draw fixture this year, similar to North and Adelaide this year. There was that recent article where Demetriou came out and said that the AFL wanted to make sure Brisbane weren't being neglected, and seeing we are in a position where a good draw will have significant impacts on our ladder position, I feel It is something the AFL can and will do to aid our recent struggle.

We will get the easter thursday timeslot though won't we as there is some sort of deal between the qld gov and the afl? So it'll be on the same night as Richmond v Carlton?

Kinda like the deal to play all AFL games at the Gabba in SEQ. And then like the subsequent revised deal to play all Lions vs GC games at the Gabba. Or the deal guaranteeing us 6 Victorian games per season.

The AFL haven't lived up to any of those agreements... Why start now?

The Lions bend over again for the AFL.
