It's an interesting suggestion. I do like the idea of making teams play for something of significance. It would definitely be better than the way the system is now where all teams play for is a better draft pick. The current system with teams not giving a damn after about round 15 does not aide player development, as we've seen at Melbourne and dare I suggest a number of our guys still need to work on that area of the game - how many games do we see teams jump out to four or five goal leads on us with plenty of game to play but important players who grew up in that culture not possessing the determination to make a real fight out of it until it's junk time? We've come to expect a long day if we're down by several goals in the second or third while other contenders in the same predicament can and have fought back into games. Perhaps along with it they could install a National Draft lottery system (similar to the NBA) to further encourage teams to not flat out tank.

A national draft lottery system would potentially work well with my system. You get the remaining clubs playing out the last 7 weeks of the season. The bottom 4 clubs go into a special mature aged draft and get 2 picks from the mature delisted or uncontracted players who were intending to enter into the PSD. The next 2 teams would get 1 pick in that draft. And then you would go to the national draft.

Must say, 3 years in a row now of away games against Gold Coast is a bit of a shame. Would like them down in Melbourne.

and these Geelong and Hawthorn games at the dome are just an absolute joke, cant wait till that deal is over.......last time vs Cats at G 71,000 ON A MONDAY, Last time vs Hawks at G 69,000. But lets keep playing these games in front of 35k>40k for 2c in every dollar.

The confirmation is from the AFL website, so one would think it is locked in.

To be safe, however, I'd wait until the fixture is officially announced before booking any flights, just in case there is a late change.

Fixture will be officially released before the end of the month, so you won't have to wait long.

Richmond (round 1), Collingwood (round 2) and Geelong (round 3) are locked in - and whilst this is just a quote - it looks like we also face West Coast and Adelaide early on. Would think that is West Coast in Perth and Adelaide in Melbourne.

We've come so close to beating West Coast over at subi the past 3 times, it's our year this year surely

It looks to be a tough start, but if we've got a healthy list there should be no excuses. We can't expect to win all those games, but we should at worst be looking at a 2-3 record.

And yes, with a tough start to the season there will inevitably be easier patches throughout the year.........on paper. Won't mean much if we don't put in the effort required, though - regardless of the opponent. We found that out on a number of occasions through season 2012.

Remember we only play 2 teams that finished in the 8 twice so after those first 5 rounds we will only have another 5 times for the rest of the season when we play this years top 8 again.

Chances are the Crows will be here at the Dome seeing as we play them in Radelaide in the preseason comp. So that in all likely hood means we will get the E-girls in Perth. Probably on a Thursday night again.

Why not? If we have a reasonably fit list, we should be able to beat all those teams.
Last year we flogged Tiges twice, flogged Filth twice, and with a decimated team got close to Cats and Ducks.
No doubt we put in a shocker against the Crows, but we were coming off a short break, missing key players and losing Murph during the game.

And we have Mick now.

I reckon we keep getting WCE and even freo to a lesser extent because afl wants to cash in on judd back in WA - think its been long enough that we have all moved on.

@ Etihad. Travelled to watch them do it us as we'll, not mention the losses viewed over here lately. Plus we'd play them again @ Etihad, not our greatest hunting ground. Freo & WCE may play the ground better than us. We play Subi better than ES.
