Laider will in unaffected by his knee cap injury dypm last year and it won't affect him in the future. Good call/ bad call?

GC

There is a better than 50/50 chance that Carlton wil lose its first five games GC/BC?

It is interesting because I would rate our Defence as having more potential than our forward line. We have two genuine quality KPD in Jamison and Henderson, quality third tall options in Laidler and Watson, who I could see playing 3rd tall until he develops into a KPD and some quality rebounding out with Yarran, Scotland and Gibbs (Who I hope will be moving into the midfield). Our main weakness is a small defender, I just don't think Armfield is near the quality of the others and AJ isn't close IMO. Temay may be a future option, but he will take time.

A back 6 of

Watson ......... Jamison ........ Armfield
Yarran ......... Henderson ........ Laidler

Pretty damn promising IMO

The data doesn't yeild much promise for AJ. He's lucky he wasn't axed. Armfield is a reasonable role player but no more. Still, he improved last year.

The reason our forward line is rated so high is due to the change in Champion Data's scoring to incorporate pressure acts. The ability of not only Jeff, Betts and Walker but also Waite to lay forward 50 tackles really helped us score highly in this area.

Biggest guns and quads at the club.

Good call, bad call?

Of all the players to have a disappointing 2012, Jamison is the one who needs a big season to keep his spot on our list. And for Carlton to making a meaningful contribution in the finals.

Good call, bad call?

Bad call, crap call, rediculous call, you should be ashamed call ...........

If the injuries in 2012 proved anything it is how important Jamison is to our list. Loosing Jamison sends our whole side out of whack and, when healthy, he is one of the premier KPD in the league. We need him healthy, not delisted .......

Good Call. It's far too late for Malthouse to change his spots.

We'll have three players or more, kick 50 goals for us this year GC/BC?
Bad Call. Only Betts would be considered a lock for a 50 goal season if he gets going. Waite is uncertain. None of the others appear capable of it and its not a common occurance for any club either. We have generally relied on extracting a greater percentage goals from our midfield and given Malthouse's history at Collingwood with the same would expect no different.

edit: Eddie has only managed the feat once. Waite has never even come close. Makes it an even more dubious call.

Changed: Troy Menzel will play at least 12 games this year. GC/BC?

(Assuming it hasn't already been put out there)

Not ashamed call. If Jamison has another bad run with injuries, then he might want a fresh start or worse. Everyone would have called you mad if you had posted that Mclean would still be at Carlton for 2013. Or said that Dawes and Wellingham would be gone two years after winning a flag. Things change.

Ashamed may be going 1 step too far, but it is exactly the type of comment people outside of the club who don't understand the teams structure would say. Jamison is easily the cornerstone of our defense, and team in general, and while he has been injury prone he 26 yrs old (coming into his peak years) and is a class player when on the track and in form. Jamison playing +20 games in a year goes a LONG way to Carlton playing finals, and short of a career ending injury I would have him in the top 10 as must-keep players in the side.

Along a similar line if Waite, Jamison and Henderson play +20 games in 2013 then we will make the finals with Jamison and Henderson being in contention for the AA squad/team. GC/BC

GC. If those three play 20+ games in 2013, we finish Top 4 & challenge for the flag. GC/BC.

BC. Jamo yes, absolutely pivotal to our defensive structure but the other two less so. Indeed I get the impression that the club has been learning to work without Waite in the team for a few years now as he is so unreliable.

Murphy, Carrots, Judd, Simmo and Scotland are all arguably more important to have on the park that either Waite or Hendo, but I agree that if both go down for extended periods of the season we are in strife. Either way, even if all three play for most of the season it would hardly guarantee us a top 4 spot with the competition out there. Our list just isn't that deep.

I think you are underselling Waite. If you watch the games from early in the season & then late in the season with Waite in the team, what he provides to our forward line is as important as any forward in the competition. That is not to say he is among the best forwards in the competition, but when he is playing the structure of our forward line becomes very dangerous for any opposition. Betts, Garlett & Walker all become more influential when Waite is out there.

I don't buy this idea that the club has been learning to work without Waite. I think it is quite the opposite. Our forward planning would be mostly around Waite being in the team, because of what he provides to the team.

Fair enough. And certainly in the past we have relied heavily on Waite. I do believe that the hastened inclusion of Casboult and the drafting of Sam Rowe were in no part due to the club's reluctance to continue to rely on Waite. I'm probably still a little sore Waite held the club over a barrel during his contract negotiations as he knew he could squeeze out more due to our over-reliance on him. But ultimately we lost more games than we won when he came back later in the season last year anyway and apart from Sydney none of the opposition was spectacular.

Statistically I think you will find that Betts is more productive when Waite isn't around. Garlett had a poor year and is hot and cold regardless of whether Waite is in the team and Walker has been switched around so much its hard to tell whether Waite's inclusion has any bearing on his performance at all.

Actually the opposite was true in 2012.

Last season Eddie had a lot more scoring shots with Waite in the team kicking 24 goals, 19 points plus 11 goal assists in the 11 games he played with Waite, compared to 24 goals, 11 points and 14 goal assists in the 11 games he played without Waite.

With Waite in the team we have an athletic tall forward who can take a grab and kick a goal, and importantly take the pressure of Eddie being our main forward.

BC...but almost a great call.

At this stage I expect him to play in round 1 but I think we're more likely to see him down back, than up forward.

Paddy Mac to play 10+ senior games in 2013. GC/BC?
Wait for NAB Cup games to see MM's plans for S. White perhaps.

GC on Paddy. Still analyzing his Round 22 game against the Saints - loved it. May well be the sort of player who likes - and performs in - the real stuff over the twos.

Laids' knee goes again he's in even worse trouble than Tex was with his shoulder. GC/BC?

McInness' recovery will take a softly, softly path in order to promote a 3rd rookie for round 1 using the LTI list. Gordon Collis/Bob Chitty?
Too good. :thumbsu: Now answer my bloody question!

Bad Call - I'd be very surprised call. Not even out of the rehab group so highly unlikely to start early.

Swann to be sacked if we don't crack 50K membership (Looking a little dodgy on exposed numbers right now)

Good call, possible call. .. They'll have to look into it call. .. Still don't think we do enough to tap into our interstate members. ..
