Agree 100%, I really want us to get Cross. We need more guys with the types of footy values he has, hard working and understands being on an afl list is a privilege not a right. I think he would bring more of the same stuff Clark and Dawes have over the past couple of years, and it's exactly what we need.
I think Cross is in a fairly exclusive club, being that he will want to prove he still has something, and is still capable of delivering. Think Junior a few years ago, possibly even a lightning quick, laser left footed 'retiring' small forward from the MFC.

Pick 2 to GWS last year wasn't he? Wouldn't mind getting him though he'll have a very hefty price attached.

We could give up #2 for O'Rourke and Adams, maybe with their 2nd rounder back considering O'Rourke has been injured most of the year.

Could he be the recent draftee looking for a move already then? People had linked Jacksh (?) to that rumour but I guess it could easily be O'Rourke. IIRC he was an outside winger type. Would take though.

Definitely an outside player in the AFL to start with, was an all rounder as an U18 - great kick on him, great awareness in traffic.

Bit of a project, but he's a great height at 188cm.

Would take that in a heartbeat

Same, and I don't think it would be overs.
I don't think we'll get a second rounder as well, O'rouke was pick 2 last year, Plus Adams, I think it'll be our pick 2 plus something else?

O'Rourke hasn't exactly delivered in spades. Think they would be quite stoked with that deal tbh.
I know he hasn't but it's only his first season, It's the same as Toumpas, I still think he'll be a gun even though he hasn't set the world on fire this year, I'm sure GWS think the same of O'Rouke

Pick 2, for last years pick 2 and Adams - pick 13 from 2011 and a sought after player?

AND you want their second round pick?

Good luck with that

If the rumors are true and both players want to leave, no chance we give up our first two picks for a bloke who hasn't proven anything and was a reach on draft day + a solid young inside mid.

We wouldn't offer any more then that I'd think - and #2 is worth more on the trade table (to GWS, if they want senior players) then O'Rourke and Adams are I'd think.

Not saying they'd take it, don't think it would be unders.

I'm starting to think. He won't give me anything solid really though

So it's confirmed that Sunday will be Daniel Cross' last game for the club.

You think you'll look at picking him up? He wants to continue his career elsewhere.

Wouldn't mind if we signed him on a year to year basis, but I'm not sure we need another handball merchant in our midfield.

Daniel Cross is a perfect fit for Melbourne. He and Jones would set such a great example and it would be great to land Sewell as well just for some hardened bodies who know how to win the ball and lead the way for the young blokes without them being thrown like lambs to wolves and expect them to survive.

Would imagine Sewell will get another year at the Hawks. Most of the young guys they have coming through aren't inside players, and he's still good enough to go around again. Would be a great get for us but I can't see Hawthorn being daft enough to let him go without a proper replacement sorted out.

If if Cross has 1 year left its 1 pre season we have him leading the middle and 1 season (maybe our most crucial season for some time) that he can help out our young midfielders. We need leaders and we need great guys at the club. Cross is both. I'd pay him a bit more than value to ensure we get him. He isn't there to be a star on game day. He is there to be a player coach.

Just because o'rourke might want to leave is he the type of player we need? Aish is only 1 season younger and 1 game behind but I think offers more. O'Rourke was a pick 2 but we should all know by now that isn't an indicator of how good a player is.

If it came down to Aish or o'rourke (who was taken high by GWS) we have to consider our needs.

If we trade pick 2 I think we need more mature mids than a 1 game player. Adams is young to but has shown plenty however we have other avenues to get him.

In my opinion, we really need 1 established midfield star, 1 first year midfield potential star and a another highly rated midfielder with our second/third rounder. We could also take Cross if he costs nothing, would be good to give Viney a bit of a chop out.

In regards to the established midfield star, i would not accept anyone other than, Sloan, Selwood, Rich or Swallow types.

All recycled players we should skip on and look at only quality inclusions. We all agree the Rodan, Pederson experiments, have not helped.

If we could add Aish, Adams and Cross it would be pretty handy. Having Cross work closely with Adams, Viney, Toumpas and Aish would do wonders for their development.
And those 4 young guys would pretty much become the core of our football club for the next 10 years along with Hogan.

What's the chances of a midfield next year including:
Cross - UFA, class midfielder, professional (definitely leaving Dogs this year)
Black - UFA, class midfielder, professional (pissed at the Lions for axing his mate)
Sloan - Class midfielder, professional (question marks on whether Crows would trade, but they're keen on Watts)

Of course Cross and Black would realistically only do it for the coin. With Flash leaving it frees up a bit of cash, but I'd suggest not enough. I'd think it would mean the end of Sylvia as well, but I'm ok with that. Watts for Sloan is probably the only trade Crows would go for. I'd be disappointed but there's more upside for us in the whole package.

1-2 year deals for Cross and Black would be about the limit but in that time they'd have a massive impact on the young midfield we have. Sloan would end up as a long term leadership player, and potential captain.

Yeah, yeah, moneyball and all that, but Viney, Toumpas, Evans, even Jones would reap the rewards. There's still pick 2, and potentially a PP to add in there, so potentially there's 2 other good young midfielders that would learn massive amounts. More importantly they'd be freed up to allow them game time in the forward 50 as smalls to aid their development without wrecking them.

The club benefits with improved on field performances, better culture. But most importantly, with a genuine midfield the (potential) on-field success would generate some interest in top line players coming to the club. There's no way in hell MFC can sign a gun at the moment, but start moving up the ladder and that can change very quickly.

Obviously I've ignored the coaching situation, trusting the fact we'll have a successful and experienced coach (in the next few weeks).

I don't agree with this at all, to be fair if Cross wants to play on next year and is keen to get plenty of game time then he comes over next year, wouldn't cost the world. And Black potentially could be persuaded with a year or 2 contract and the promise of a coaching position when he retires so IMO I actually think it would could us sweet FA.

As for Sloane? There is noooo way that we get him as a straight swap for Watts, and if anything they will be after top first round picks as they don't have any in the draft this year.

So unless we get a deal done with pick 2 we won't be getting him and to be honest there is very very little chance they Would trade him anyway.

Don't quote me but I think, hombsch, neade, tom Harley and orren Stephenson. Were all trades after 1 year
