Random thought - is the Hawks shopping Sewel around on the proviso of 'salary cap room' for the purpose of matching the Swans offer to Buddy? Not to keep Buddy, but to force the Swans to trade for him?

I would have thought not as the hawks should be better compensated through FA rather than a trade.

What's the ruling with that?

Do they have to match the deal in terms of cash and years?

I believe so - both term and value.

Hawks wouldn't have to have locked all their offloads in place, just a good idea of the value they could clear if they were forced to keep Buddy.

Compo for Buddy leaving is capped at one pick. I would guess that would be matched at the Hawks first pick (effectively end of first round). Swans first round pick would be better....

Can Roos turn any of these C graders into B+ or A graders?

Evans, Nicholson, Bail, Taggert

Evans is the best of this bunch imo, i think he can find the ball and use it a bit better than the rest, can Roos turn him into a Kennedy/Mcglyn story? Evans is a jack of all trades, no real standout attribute but doesnt suck at anything either imo, AND he can find the damn pill which is handy.

Nicholson, has the potential, has the burst of speed which is great, has been used a tagger, generally not the best disposal, if he can learn to kick, Roos can make him into a footballer imo

Bail, has been around for a while, had some injuries and never really settled. I think his only standout attribute is his endurance, although he only really lacks in the disposal department.

Taggert i have heard good and bad things from, i dont know enough about him, i think he is very similar to Evans in that he can play the game and isnt the worst kick atm, just been injured and behind in the pecking order, what is his potential under Roos?

Can he turn any of our current C graders into best 22 B+ or A graders? what are your thoughts? would be great if he could pull 1 mid out of these guys, and even Kent, 1 out of 5 of these guys stepping up would be a hige help to our midfield.

Blease, Strauss

Can Roos find a role for either of these guys,

Blease we all know has the potential, can kick and occasionally shank, or just bomb it long without thought. He has the speed to do damage, but just does get it enough, i will estimate he averages about 15 touches a game, he needs to get 20-25 to be a great player imo, can Roos make him or not?

Strauss, can kick and at times has looked ok, injury prone and never settles in the team. He shoudl be used off of the HBF playing on a 5th or so medium defender, and occasionally get loose and rebound, using his (supposed great kicking skills)

Can Roos find these guys a role, less important imo than the midfield options i mentioned but would be great to get one of them producing on there potential.

Who else could fit into these categories? what do you think these guys need to do to make it and turn our team/midfield around?

The only guy in that list that has a chance IMO is Strauss. Really rate him off the half back line. Has the tools but needs the confidence. The rest are cloggers to be fair, even Blease.

Evans is not a list clogger, if he didn't get injured this season he would've played out every single game. He was a stand out for us this year in the sense that we may have a future star on our list, showed some real good signs and he is just going to get better.

Strauss needs to play the role that Davey had this year, as a link-up player. Particularly when Craig came in, Davey's elite kicking through the midfield set up so many (see, lowest scoring side of the year) great goals for us simply because he was able to hit targets. Also had the run obviously.

Strauss isn't a ball-winner and he's not a great defender. He can however find time and space very well. We just need to get him in position and get the ball to him. He's a role player. Clever, has good hands and knows how to use the ball.

I think Blease has enormous potential. I think he's suffered being an outside player in a team with a severe lack of inside players to win the ball (as well as early injury). He has some genuine weapons in his blistering pace to burn off opponents and can be very dangerous on the burst towards goal. I really reckon he will benefit greatly from improved team structure and balance and will really be our x-factor player.

He's a first class butcher - he tries, but essentially he has hit his ceiling. In 1.5 years he is redundant - see Magner. Don't get me wrong, he's far from my worst.
