'kin hell. Fitzpatrick would be snapped up in a second by teams with a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

We don't need to document his health issues again. He has come in for his first spell, and has played very well in it.

Re-rookie :rolleyes::rainbow:

It's not my first option but you have to look at where the contracts of players are at and unfortunately for him he is out of contract, I would rather get rid of Pederson any day of the week if we are allowed to and are able to pay out his contract.

You have to keep both than. We've put years of development into Fitzpatrick ffs, why would he let him slip now.

If you read my earlier post I said i think we should delist 5 players to get Hogan, Magner and 3 draft picks onto our list, Fitz wasn't one of those players to be delisted. Then I said we should target free agents such as Cooney and Thomas, if we land one or two of those then we need a couple more spots, I put up 5 other options and Pedo was one if we can Pay him out and Fitz was another one but would re-rookie him if possible, I'm not saying delist Fitz strait up and put him on the rookie list, Only an option if we land quality free agents. Davis, Davey and Bail were the other options.

Why do we need a massive turnover of our list?

We need to grow it, not cull it.

When we have the luxury of bringing in better players then the ones we have on our list, then we can remove the deadwood.

You can't just keep culling a list every year, it's just not feasible.

The way I see it, we need to keep as many young blokes as possible.

This is the base we need;

IN:
Hogan
1st Round
2nd Round
3rd Round

From that -

OUT:
Tom Gillies
Neville Jetta
James Sellar
Joel MacDonald (could see him getting another chance)

The unfortunate reality is that if we want to get players in via trade or FA we need to either delist some youngsters;

- Tynan
- Taggert
- Davis

Have retirements (both are remote possibilities);

- Davey
- Rodan

Or trade/pay out contracted players:

- Jamar (required IMO)
- Bail
- Dunn
- Spencer
- Strauss (worth keeping)
- Tapscott (worth keeping)
- Pedersen (long term deal)

We don't have the ability to make wholesale changes this season - and I'm beginning to feel that through Neelds poor list management decisions (Dunn, Pedersen and Bail to long term contracts) we are going to have to choose between losing youngsters like Davis, Tynan and Taggert (Fitzpatrick maybe, but I think he's shown a lot recently) or losing key players for the future like Watts, Sylvia or Gawn.... Seems a no brainer to me.

I know you can't just re-rookie players, it's a risk but I doubt clubs would snap fitz or davis up before us, in 4 years Fitz has only had 1 good game and a couple solid performances. Look at Dylan Roberton, picked up in the 2010 draft, played over 10 games in each of his first 3 seasons and improving in each, enters the draft last year and no one picks him up, st kilda got him as a rookie. It's strange but clubs prefer picking 18 year old unknowns rather than picking up young players with a bit of experience.

Believe me I would rather keep Fitz, Davis and Davey over Bail and Pederson but the latter 2 are under contract, not sure on the rules if we can just delist them and if we can are we in a position to pay their contracts out?

I was totally with you on Fitz after last year Blackas - but hes starting to show mate.

No chance he would last to the Rookie draft if we took the risk this year. In fact in my opinion he could go as early as second round on current form/potential.

Yeah fair enough, I'm starting to like Fitz too haha but it's just the way the list and contracts work out. Maybe one of Taggart or Tynan would be a better option to re-rookie if it came down to that.

St Kilda and the Doggies would woop with joy and take him in the early 20's.

Good analysis TPM, agree with all of it.

Taggert, Tynan, Davis all need to play this year because one may have to go.

Be very surprised if any of them were taken in the ND. All late picks who haven't cracked a game for Melbourne.

Yeah I'm not particularly concerned about Davis - never heard anything great about him and, although we have a hard backline for talls to break into, he's been around for 3 (is this his 4th year) years now without cracking it for a senior game so meh.

Fitz I disagree with, I think he would be pounced on by other clubs for a bloke of his size and speed and having been through what he has, he is looking really good.

Davey, well if he wants big $$ again, I'm sure he'll be gone. But I think there are probably 8 or so better de-list candidates before hime. So if he's happy to sign a smaller contract, I want to keep him.

Regarding contracted players. Yes, we can de-list them but you are correct - we would have to pay them out. The Pederson on 3 years thing infuriates me for this reason!

Yeah I think all of Fitz, Davis, Taggart and Tynan have futures at Melbourne in some capacity, if it came to to needing to delist and re-rookie one we just have to look at who's most likely to slip through, probably not Fitz as he's the only one getting a game at the moment.

Was given a one year contract last year and has been on the fringe most weeks. I expect he will retire at the end of the year, alongside Rodan. Gillies will be delisted and sadly I expect Aaron Davey may realise his football career has come to an end

Very happy to take Shagga back to the Cattery as a VFL listed player. Top clubman, loves the club, and has plenty to offer the VFL side as a player and an educator.

Mate a kpf who has played one good game , stkilda Brisbane carlton etc are desperate for key forwards no way he makes it past a late pick

Sure, he's a cat through and through but when you can hardly get a game at Melbourne your AFL career might be coming to an end.

Not doubting his AFL days are numbered. But as you said, he's a Cat thru and thru and has plenty of development skills to offer. Troy Selwood was done at the AFL level and came to Geelong and has been perfect as VFL captain. I could easily see Shagga do the same.... and do it very well.....

What's going to happen with Magner? He would be frustrated at the current situation. Are we going to elevate him next year, or move him on? He's probably not the future, but is he better than a being stuck as a rookie listed player?

If we don't bring him on to the senior list, surely he would ask to be let go so he could have a crack at getting a game somewhere else? Where else could ge get a game?

Lots of question marks. Not many answers...
