We should fight the Kommer one if there isn't a chance of the suspension going up to three games. I don't see what other option he had after Kep dived to tackle.

Can't believe Ryder got 3 & Lindsay Thomas got off. The only difference was Thomas hit with his head rather than shoulder so they call it an accidental head clash. He ran off the line and deliberately made contact - does it matter which body part does the damage? Just inconsistent penalties.
That's the whole problem. Consistency

This carry over point system is bullsh*t

i'll wait to the report comes out, but I don't think Ryder's carry over points will have had any impact on the length of his ban.

I do agree loading, carry over points etc need a re-think. that's the greatest impact on the consistency of the MRP. Two identical incidents can get very different bans depending on loadings and 5 year good behaviour records and what not. They obviously has to be some recognition of one's previous record, but I can't help but feel it could be adjusted. (certainly someone who does an intentional act should lose his right to a 5 year good behaviour discount)

Jesus, really?
Our game is going backwards.
Ryder's hit 10 years ago would have been a good hit.
Kommer's is just a ****ing joke.

Don't remember the incident, but Dawson probably would have concussed his teammate.
Ha.

When it was replayed the commentators didn't say anything. Tim Watson said "Bang" as Dawson collected an Essendon player, I thought high, and that was the end of it. I simply remember thinking at the time how biased it was that they spoke about Ryder 3-4 times and Kommer a couple and basically put them up in front of MRP themselves. Then a similar incident (I thought) the other way was ignored.

Watching the game again ATM to try to find it :)

Charges laid:
Patrick Ryder, Essendon
, has been charged with a level four engaging in rough conduct offence (425 demerit points, four-match sanction) for engaging in rough conduct against Luke McPharlin, Fremantle, during the first quarter of the round three match between Essendon and Fremantle, played at Patersons Stadium on Friday April 12, 2013.

In summary, his previous carry-over points from other offences mean he can accept a three-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Fremantle Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of seven activation points, resulting in a classification of a level four offence, drawing 425 demerit points and a four-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of 66 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 491 demerit points and a four-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 368.25 points and a three-match sanction.

Nick Kommer, Essendon, has been charged with a level three engaging in rough conduct offence (325 demerit points, three-match sanction) for engaging in rough conduct against Kepler Bradley, Fremantle, during the first quarter of the round three match between Essendon and Fremantle, played at Patersons Stadium on Friday April 12, 2013.

In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Fremantle Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 243.75 demerit points and a two-match sanction.

Contact between Essendon's Nick Kommer and Fremantle's Lee Spurr from the fourth quarter of Friday's match was assessed. The ball was loose with Kommer and Spurr coming to the contest at a 90 degree angle to each other. Kommer elected to go to ground and slid into the contest, making contact below the knees with his opponent Spurr. A free kick was paid to the Fremantle player at the time. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Seems correct going on the above report as an early plea even on the original 425 is 318.25 which is still 3 weeks.

I reckon Kommer is hard done by personally.

Kommer should challenge. It was only his boot that flicked Keplar after he'd passed the contest wasn't it? Kommer did everything he could to pull out of that one without hitting anyone. The alternative was to knock Kep or his own team mate into next week.

As for Ryder accept it. I hate it that this is what football has become but such is life. Under the modern ruling it is there every time. If he were to miss 3 consecutive matches then against St Kilda, Collingwood and GWS is probably the best run of 3 games we'd get for him all season. On paper we should win 2 of them regardless and are a red hot go of beating Collingwood. Don't risk the 4th as if we lose to Collingwood (let alone St Kilda or GWS) he'd be a very welcome in for Geelong.
