Ryder sounds about right unfortunately. At best could get it down to negligent and 2 weeks with a plea, but unlikely.

Kommer is real stiff. Seems blood automatically equates to medium to high impact. Also how is trying NOT to hurt the guy considered reckless?!

Ha.

When it was replayed the commentators didn't say anything. Tim Watson said "Bang" as Dawson collected an Essendon player, I thought high, and that was the end of it. I simply remember thinking at the time how biased it was that they spoke about Ryder 3-4 times and Kommer a couple and basically put them up in front of MRP themselves. Then a similar incident (I thought) the other way was ignored.

Watching the game again ATM to try to find it :)

i reckon it was about the last 5 mins of the 2nd quarter on the half forward flank, i remember thinking at the time gee that was high and reckless, and stewy did come off the ground at the time fairly dazed

Ya know what? f*** the MRP, I'd challenge both head on, it's only an extra week if both are unsuccessfully challenged, if we go well, both get off. We have the depth nowadays

Kommer ---> Jetta, Winderlich
Ryder ---> Gumbleton, Daniher, Hille.

Yep, just watched it then. 2+ mins before half time, loose ball on the ground. Crameri goes in to pick up the footy and Dawson jumps in to protect the footy from being picked up (yes it's strange, he jumps around the footy and doesn't pick it up, frog does). Hack's arse hits Crameri upside the head.

The moment we start counting wins is the moment our year falls apart
Going to go out on a limb and say the players probably don't read this forum, so I think we're OK. :thumbsu:

Also Vince getting let off is frustrating, looked like he intended to hurt Wingard when I saw it at the time.

Challenge them both. Geelong'd ruck stocks aren't great, West and Blicavs can be handled by Tommy pretty well IMO

But there's also Ryder and Bellchamber's twin roles in attack that needs to be considered. Geelong's defence is pretty solid. Having Ryder back against the Cats would give us much more flexibility.

Our record against Geelong has been awful for years, we will need all hands on deck to beat them.

Risking not having Ryder for the game would be silly.

But if you do go the sole ruck option, then you bring in a key forward. In some ways that's preferable (up forward) than Ryder on his quiet days.

Some highly excitable types (such as myself), might even start to get a little firm about the Gumbleton and dare I say it... options that could open up

Can you go to the 2nd quarter and look at the replay of Dawson's hip bump on Crameri's head? It's shown during a stoppage with 2:08 left.

Looking at that and knowing you love this MRP stuff, can you explain how Dawson didn't get weeks for that?

I get that Crameri didn't get bloodied like Kepler did, but he did stay on the ground for some time afterwards, was seen to by trainers and left the field.

Looking at that chart in your OP, I'd assess it: Reckless, Medium Impact, High Contact: 3 weeks

Which is the same as Kommer's.

Even if you were more lenient and assessed it as "Low Impact" (being "Reckless" and "High Contact" are irrefutable), it'd still be 2 weeks.

What am I missing here?

Going for the ball, didn't elect to bump, didn't approach the contest in a terribly unreasonable manner (eg jumping miles off the ground for no reason, sliding in), 'contact was an accident that occurred while attempting to gather the ball'/football accident.

this was some screen cap i took a few days ago which you know sums up most of the above. all head contact is basically payable as a free-kick, but not all head contact is suspendable (see: ). so yeah nothing for dawson to worry about here. actually, this is kinda the contest they wanna see nowadays. got a feeling if this was last year dawson would have slid in.which i suppose raises other questions

the notable thing here for me is that cram didn't actually get a free-kick for the head contact, because the ump basically blew the whistle moments before this in relation to another head high free-kick. i'm tempted to say davey was actually closer to getting suspended for that than dawson was for this, but i feel that the same things that got dawson off got davey off.

i'll upload the video in a hour or so. just as a footnote of sorts. also i realised i've gotta upload the kommer slide.

Agree with Phone.

As phone said; Dawson was trying to pick up the ball -Doing what the rules request. There may have been a free kick to Crameri as there was contact to the head, but the umpire had blown the whistle one second earlier for another free kick.

Kommer's was completely different - He was laying a late shepherd - unnecessary in my opinion - Kommer was very unlucky to in affect get three weeks for minimal contact leading to Bradley receiving a cut head.

Phone - What did you think about Kommer's penalty - I thought it would one week reduced to a reprimand for an early plea.

Phone but Dawson's incident was still: Reckless, Medium/Low Impact, High Contact

I agree that things should be judged on individual merit, taking into account a player's intentions, but that often isn't how the MRP adjudicate.

No matter how you look at it, his incident should fall under those categories.

It wasn't a reportable offence. It doesn't matter if the contact was reckless/medium/high. It needs to be a reportable offence first and foremost. Kommer and Ryder's were that. They bumped and made head contact, which comes under rough conduct and is reportable and hence suspendable. Dawson hasn't done that. He's gone for the ball and accidental contact has been made while attempting to gather the ball. That's not striking or rough conduct or abuse or charging or just the cover all 'misconduct'. It's not reportable. Just like if Hooker tonight goes to spoil in a legitimate fashion (eg you know, going for the ball) in a marking contest and accidentally splits someone's head open he'll be safe, and so was Dawson there.

Does anyone think Melksham will get done for belting Saad? Didn't get picked up on foxtel but I thought I saw him go the ground and pound in the last scuffle
I think Milne is more likely to get rubbed out for choking Dempsey
