I can't comment cause I've only be listening to the match but I mean really they are playing an interstate at home side who likely won't make the finals... are they really hot shit in a champagne class or diarrhoea in a dixie cup™?

Duncan, Christensen, Motlop , Poodle Hunt , Ballroom and perhaps Vardy , Caddy and Smedts. These are where the Hawks game will be won or lost, our oldies will not sweat like most sides, they wont be be erked being the underdog , its only a matter of they can rallie to play to the required level
If both ages play as the can then we can beat them.
Good post. I think really we need Bundy and Mitch to lift like they did in 11 I feel they are "just going". Hopefully the smell of finals will really shake everyone awake and have them foaming at the mouth for a chance at a flag. I can really see someone like Ballroom or Vardy really cracking a final open with their run and hard to "matchuponness". Oh and Travis I miss you so much.

The Hawks were very, very good tonight. The Eagles played really well, I thought –– much like people expected them to play at the beginning of the season. And you can't say they didn't take their opportunities –– they kicked 16.7. The Hawks were hard at the ball, and very potent going forward. Buddy still can't take an overhead mark, but Roughie certainly can. Can't see anyone beating them but us at this stage, and even then, on tonight's form, it'd take some effort.

As a side note, after watching Naitanui's supreme performance in the ruck tonight, Melbourne picking Watts at #1 is looking more and more like a Tambling-over-Franklin-level mistake. His tap work was amazing.

Not to downplay the kid but I doubt he'd be half as good if he hadn't had Cox teaching him for the past however many years. Melbourne is where potential goes to die...

Outside of the Cats taking on the opposition each week, I'd rather watch paint dry than view any other sport. I'm even finding it difficult to watch games not involving the Cats these days. Might be age, but unless there's an emotional involvement for me, sport really is just guys and gals running around in fancy pajamas. The Cats give me that state of bliss every week, just as Neil Young does, Picasso does, walking the dog does, nibbling on my woman's little toe does, drinking hot coffee at 6am in the middle of Winter while staring at the stillness of the Bay does, etc. etc. etc.
I involuntarily double backed after having read the bolded, whilst retrospectively sighing with relief that it was in fact her toes you said. Not that it's a bad thing to nibble on any part of your woman's anatomy so long as scrupulous hygene methods are adhered to, toes not being the exception. I just wasn't expecting to read anything like the bolded, so keep up the good work James. :thumbsu:

Oh, and by the way, it all makes sense to me now why your username reminds me of a certain British band who's very well known song has been heavily featured throughout the American Pie film series.

I don't really get the love for Hawthorn tonight. Sure West Coast came to play and they still won but they weren't unbelievable or anything. They run forward of the ball really well and have some very talented players. A number of their players don't defend well though. If we set up like we did in the second half against them where we always cover the defensive side strongly then I'll back us in. Their bottom 6 is much worse than ours too which is where we can get them.

Westcoat's Defense was shocking though tonight.. Every time it went in Hawks got a score. Our back 6 is much better then that.

Still we will need to play better then we have been leading up to the bye to win against them and Freo. Would be surprised if we beat both.

The game was played entirely on Clarkson's terms. Worsfold allowed his forward line to become crowded and backed his talls to pack mark. Won't happen when you have a very capable bunch of spoilers in defence who will leave their man to make the two on one knowing numbers will win out when the ball hits the ground. This of course allowed the hawks to run forward of the ball anticipating the turnovers. All one on one at the Hawks end and Mitch Brown had a shocker.

Time in forward half stats were crazy.

Breust had a field day unmanned and running hard to get to the contest to take the handball and Gunston showed he needed more time put into him than Worsfold reckoned. Roughie had the whole park to move in. This game will be analysed very closely by opposition coaches. It was revealing.

Harsh but close to the mark , at least recently. NicNat at Melb would be a different player. Watts at WC would be a different player.

But the essence of what they are would still be there. NicNats raw athletic ability was there for all to see even as an underage kid in the u18's. He was beating Kruser in the ruck even being a year younger and shorter.

Watts to some degree has been hurt by the style change of the game , same as Mitch Brown.
They picked him over Nic Nat for his ability to play the big minutes in big games. Hardly had a chance to do that at Melb. Being Vic, no gohome factor. We will see if that hurts melb with Hogan.

The article in the paper list the side Melb could have would be painful to look at and its built on a false premise. If A was recruited in Y1 then that changes who you get for Y2 and who the others take. One or two perhaps but a side?As I said recently. If we had picked Scott Thompson on 07 instead of Simpson , we wouldn't have taken Gillies n 08 . True but perhaps might taken someone who effected who we took in 09 and we may not have Menzel and Duncan Christensen etc

Haha I do the same thing on wikipedia when I'm bored. Thankfully not many regrets! I think the only one that springs to mind is Charlie Garden over Sam Mitchell but seeing as we drafted Bartel and Ablett that year I can see where the thinking was. Oh and Swan going at 58 kills me.

Edit: # winning
Are you in trouble for too many 'Likes' too? Who should we target GFTW? What is our aim? To piss off ppl or to bump them to receive an award?
This type of fun and games might help me to resist the urge to post a thread in Bay 13 suggested by the Freo supporter - Hawthorn - Geelong's Bitches lol

Matthews is an embarrassing biased flog. Has he ever not come up with a pathetic excuse for a hawthorn cheap shot merchant and claimed it was all one big accident? Excuse after lame excuse in regards to pee and poo players is all I hear driveling out of his geriatric mouth.

Had it been Geelong players I'm sure he would've been estimating the amount of weeks they should've been rubbed out for.

That one you can save for a very special occasion ;)

Today Sydney will beat Port (only just), Melbourne to turn it up and Richmond to give the Dogs a hiding.

Can any team beat Haw this year?
Too talented all over the ground. Lake has improved their backline hugely.
Not counting the rd 1 result, but if we do it again rd 15, that would be the statement of the year to date.
Agree - but a bit torn, as I've said previously, if we play them in GF will it motivate them? I'm just really hoping another team knocks them out of the Finals - this is probably their last chance at a Flag.
BTW while I agree Lake was terrific, the Poos+Wees colours make him look jaundiced! Not his colours at all!!!

I've spent little time there, so I wouldn't know about that DF, it just tickled my funny bone when the Freo fan said it yesterday
