Revert to the old VFA day where they did not have wings. I remember the race horses like Greg Wells (Stephen's older brother) covering heaps of ground in the halcyon days of Geelong West.
That used to be my thinking. But it wont make any difference. No one stays in position like they used to.

The issue is that the forwards dont stay at home, and I see no way to change that.

No you weren't; what's there to get other than what I said, which was in reply to Footsore's reply to you, if that makes sense. He called Simpkin a plodder. That he isn't , imo, but my point remains.
Simpkin has been a terrific pick-up for Hawthorn, especially when you consider they got him for nicks. His return has been exactly what was expected that is to provide depth in the on-baller stakes with a ready-made player.

Yep. I was saying the other day that i'm actually starting to enjoy soccer for the first time ever. Because they actually hold positions.
The majority of the time yes they do hold their positions, but every now then you might see the LB or RB push forward to help create pressure on the opposition defence or the striker may run down back to help create a turnover. But overall players do hold their positions.

That doesn't bother me so much, but it's a fantastic result for us that Sydney dropped that game. Our performance against the Lions is even more critical now...a golden opportunity to move 2.5 games clear in the top four, with only 10 games remaining. And if the Roos (with their season on life-support) can pull off another huge upset against Fremantle, we'll be two games clear in the top two. Massive game.

As for Hawthorn, it's well-known around here that we haven't won all four quarters of a game this year, but I'm tipping the Hawks haven'tdone it many times either. They're just going at the moment.
During a discussion on coaching today David Parkin made the point that both Clarkson and Lyon consider that you need to be in the top three teams defensively to give yourselves the best chance of winning the silverware. A viewpoint with which he agrees. So I'm way more concerned about improving that aspect of our game as we're languishing there than getting game breaks on our major opposition - important as that is.

Keep it going I say.:p
I agree it's all in good fun and starts up the banter between the 2 clubs for the next 2 weeks but I always think threads like that are just set up to come back and haunt clubs haha

I'll see you boys in 2 weeks and no doubt it will be another cracker, cats will win again, I'll get extremely drunk, wake up the next day and think how? why? again really? :(

Or....finally!? :p

It has nothing to do with round 15, it is about winning the 2013 premiership. Hawthorn win that against Geelong, you will have bragging rights for the rest of our days and rightfully so but if Geelong win it, they categorically go down as one of the great sides in history.

Hawthorn v Geelong grand final would be the ultimate decider, one which would captivate a new generation of footy fans and instill a lasting bitter/hatred between both clubs.

Personally, I bloody so wish we get to see this eventuate but getting there is the toughest gig of all unfortunately.

On your first point, you're already one of the greatest sides in history

It's a shame we have only met in 1 granny over this period, for such a great rivalry it needs at least 1 more grand final I reckon.

Yeah I'm not confident at all, anything can happen, Freo, Swans look just as good as both our teams atm and if Freo get a home final then that could be them straight into the GF, out of interest have the dockers lost at home yet this season?

Needs to be another to extinguish some excuses though. Things like never going back2back, playing St Kilda at the end of their reign, receiving a great run from the umpires, lucky preliminary escapes against Collingwood & the Doggies.

Hawthorn v Geelong grand final, the build up would be truly electric. Interstate fans would tune in more than usual for this one while the media would flashback three decades in order to draw attention to previous rivalries of yesteryear's.

100,000 parochial supporters....be bloody epic!
