On the couch's prediction of top 4 at the end of H&A

1. Geelong
2. Fremantle
3. Sydney
4. Hawthorn

They have
Geelong 4 wins
Fremantle 4 wins
Sydney 3 wins with loss only to us
Hawthorn 2 win and 2 loss to NM and Swans

Hope their prediction are correct

Paul Ross said Geelong vs Sydney in SS is 50/50 but mike Sheehan said "I wouldn't tip against the cats at home"

there was talk of Geelong going through a strong month of training. Make of it what you will but I know there are some fans in here who really get irritated when anyone mentions that as they know it is insinuating excuses, have no idea what kind of training it would be....would it be heavy cardio sessions or weights?

Any fitness guru's in here have an idea of what differs in these increased training loads to their usual routines throughout a season?

It was made a highlight by Blight's Crows in 93/94.
It basically encompasses ALL aspects of training, running, skills, running, weights, running.
Bit like in marathon days, leading up to the big day which was a 42 km run, about a month before, you might do a 45-50 km run, at slower pace than the event, then taper off and hopefully recover in time. It does work for most.

Not sure how they can be so confident we will win four on how we played Friday night to be honest. But hope they are right!
Hardest games, Sydney, West Coast, Port, Brisbane in that order.

Will be over the freaken moon with 4/4, 3/4 happy, 2/4 shitty. 1/4, not even contemplating. 0-4, that's it I quit, everyone go home.

I was reading another team board and came across this post:

Just something a bit different. was talking to an AFL player from another club (North) at my Sons training session last night. they have Gysbert with them from north this year, and he said the weight sessions pre season at Melbourne were 30 mins twice a week. At North they did 2 hr sessions x 3 per week - Gysbert put on 6kg since he has been at north. Is very close, but he is against a number of inside mids in form at the Roos.

Has North Melbourne's summer training with our boys given them a little more than perhaps they should have?

They may have already had that kind of training program before training with Geelong but you'd hope we didn't share our training philosophies with them as they seem to have matched us well on both occasions this year and it sounds like the kind of conditioning techniques in which Geelong have used for a while now and North Melbourne have copied us

Wow that's crazy footscore. From my perspective just maintaining takes 3 x 60 min a week. Sure you can mix it up and so forth so it's more or less. But when bulking you can be in there almost everyday "blasting" a different body part. To think they only did 30 min twice a week in pre-season is staggering.

When I was at the gym a couple of years ago, I'd try and do about 1 hour x 3 times per week and I'm no athlete nor a wonderful male specimen so how could a professional football player only do 30 minutes twice a week?

Must have had an entirely different program at Melbourne, maybe a ton of running and then do more of the weight training during the AFL season or something?

But it's no wonder young Gysberts put on 6kg's in one summer.
A few of our boys did similar in their first year at the cats, added 3-5 kilo's which is quite a lot.

Haven't read it but we do see it often and have done so for a number of years now.
A lot of our fans are worrying a little too much about the rucks but I think we have bigger worries down forward.

Hawkins needs to be fit come finals time, he's far more important than a genuine ruck imo, also have to get Varcoe, Chappy and Rivers back in and upto speed. Thankfully there is one month of footy to really get those legs pumped back into action.
Those 3 guys come back to somewhere near the best (physically) then we won't have any issues about the rucks as we can match any team when the ball hits the deck.

I just cant wait until we wake up and its finals and it looks like we have to play hawks/dockers/swans and we realise we are in with a chance because we have tactically flogged those teams this season.

I think of this next month as "tryouts".

I agree, long bloody season too, not mentioned much on the main board but we have been rotating our list like never before, blokes in and then out, players managed and then players suspensions which also give them rest but with the added cost of potentially getting suspended in a final.

If we get a home final, expect we will show up from the start and really try and put the game to bed going into the 4th...Scott and his coaching staff could even sit all 3 of those who have carry over points (Johnson, Pods, Kelly, Bartel etc) as a team like Fremantle or Hawthorn would deliberately try and rough up our players if they already have the game lost.

The Power's exciting group of youngsters - led by the sensational Chad Wingard - will pose a stern test for Geelong, particularly with Hinkley having an intimate knowledge of the Cats' playing style through his time there as an assistant coach.
The way that article is written, you'd think this is the first time we'll be playing Port this year.
