I like your thinking THE_GUN but Carlton would demand too much in trade for Yarran. I personally think we can get a Yarran output from a second round performer this year in the same mold.

For me, Garlett still remains a top 5 talent. Whilst it would be risky taking him with a first rounder, definitely a second rounder would be worth it. I'm with you, should have been nabbed last year.

First rounder, I still think if we can look to move it on for Billy Longer we should.

Im not placing a great deal of value in Ruckman anymore TBH
I would Prefer to see a team structure of say 1 designated ruckman & 2 relief ruckman
1 in the foward line & 1 Backline player that can also Relieve in the Ruck and can be thrown foward if required (Todd Elton) example

Our 1st pick + Griffiths -- Yarran
Astbury + 4th round pick - Stkilda 2nd Selection 21-25 (Garlett)

No way would I give that for Yarran. Screws lose he is. A talent no doubt but we could get much better for that deal. Staple of the side not a sometimes icing on cake type.

Structure is vital. We need a ruckman, and a premium one at that. Maric you may as well call part time. That's what he will be. Vickery, unsure if he can handle the number one mantle. Getting a Billy Longer would solve our problem for 10 years. He will be a premium ruckman.

The problem is that not only is Billy Longer all potential, he is also extremely expensive. If he turns out to be a Cameron Wood or a Robbie Warnock then the investment would be made redundant. There have been plenty of young rucks traded for no reward - Cameron Wood for Pick 14, Warnock + filler pick for Pick 24 and 2 filler picks. I hope we don't try and repeat history in that way. Very rarely has a young ruckman been traded for success.

To add to that, he is nowhere near the peaking ages of ruckman:
Nic Nat only started to perform last year when he was 22.
Sam Jacobs when he was 24
Mumford 23
Minson 27
Maric 26
etc.

This pattern will most likely continue and we should be looking to use this type of information to our advantage (like Maric). Longer is only 20! with nothing to back his performances but hype so far.

We would be best suited to wait for another ruckman to fill the void - and the opportunity will come. Besides, if we decided to trade for Longer and he would definitely make it, a minimum of 2 years would need to be waited before he starts to show his ability. By that time, a myriad of possiilities for ruckmen would have surfaced.

I know its early days - and by October 18 clubs will be in the same boat, but ....

At this stage Richmond (and Collingwood to a lesser extent) have been in 'constant contact' with Ben Lennon (Vic Metro).

I would say that there are a number of players that Richmond would be keeping constant tabs on though.

Happy with that Collingwood have picked up ALOT of good young players in the last few years so with them being interested must be good.

We are in need of forward line class and I would love a garlett type, but I do love strong characters so I'm not sure. Sometimes bad character can have a resilient ego, it all comes down to work rate and a drive to become the best (not delude oneself into thinking they are the best already).

Don't want two specialist small forwards though - the future is midfield rotations. A 2/2 sub rule would further entrench that future.

A young Milne and a tough midfielder who can skilfully play as a medium forward would be nice!

Conca and Vlastuin need to develop their game up forward over time.

What are the chances of landing Luke Dunsten, Nathen Freeman or Dom Sheed? Dom Sheed being the prefered. Just think we need one more pure midfielder, Just no what your going to get with him I think.

Sounds like they may all be available or close to it. Sheed is the pick of the bunch for mine and if recruiters let him slide because he is one-paced they will regret it as early as next year.

Well if he can have an impact like Vlastuin this year I think it will help us next year being able to play our midfielders like Dusty forward and Deledio setting up through the backline. So many options.

I think he's better than Flossy personally. I've said since last year I'd happily take Sheed at pick 1. He hasn't changed my mind yet.

Wow you reckon that's possible? Geez I hope they do. Sheed would be a dream
