The guy we've been rumoured to have big interest in (Much like Vlastuin last year) Christian Salem was very good for Vic Metro yesterday. Was described as "Selwood like" with his attack on the ball and had 20+ disposals and 3 goals

I like throwing out names.

Here's 3 you haven't heard of.

Matt Boag - a tough as nails inside, contested-ball winning mid from Geelong who can also play up forward. In fact he's made to often due to the dominance of that deep Geelong midfield.

Andreas Roth - smart little 170 cm goal sneak from Eastern. Can find a goal and is quite the livewire.

Aiden Franetic - Oakleigh and Metro forward/midfielder with flashy green boots whose game style lives up to his name. Disposal is a bit messy and decision making isn't a feature - but he makes things happen with express pace and dash. Can find the football.

TFLUA-Tiger tigs2010 what are your thoughts on Bontempelli seen a number of early phantoms and nearly everyone has him falling to us. If it was between him and Salem who would be your choice and why?

TFLUA-Tiger What do you think of Clay McCarthy from Dandenong/Vic country. Kicking a few goals in the state champs. Would take him with our second pick for sure if he was there. Where do you think he will go? Reminds me of Hayden Crozier a bit.

This could be Boag's draft!

Can Roth go ahead and jump?

Franetic attacks on the ball are just what we need!

Salem for mine. He's got pace to burn, can really hurt sides with his pace, agility and neat kicking on the wing and with his defensive pressure and goal presence. Think he's got a few more strings to him than Bontempelli.

Salem's lot sounds like a good one, but can he burn more than just witches hats at the low stakes games?

Will be really interesting to see how metro does against other div one sides. In saying that, they didn't havenitneasy against nsw, but they don't possess many super quick on ballers.

I like Clay. Toadvine is a fan, from memory, too. Could go anywhere between 25 and rookie I reckon at this stage. Quick, smart and skilful but does he stand up under pressure situations?

Cheers for the reply. If there is one type of player I'm most keen on picking up this year it's quick line breaking mids with good skills.

I do like Clay. Saw more of him last year but he is very dangerous forward of center with how can create scoring opportunities out of nothing not only for himself but his team mates. He needs to work up the ground more so he can show off his run and carry.

I think he could thrive in an AFL environment and become much like of Setven Motlop from the Cats.
Through the draft process we would need to determine whether he is willing to put in the work.

Haven't really seen Bontempelli play. Sure I have but don't remember. I like Salem. Tough, quick, skilful. Exactly what we need.

Love this kid. Potentially Christensen/Motlop type of good.

I like the idea of trading up our second selection and to the start of round 2 or trading for an early round 2 selection and having a mid round 1, start round 2 and mid round 2 selection. This would involve meeting the requirements of a bottom 3 team for a current Tiger player only or player and selection downgrade.

Whilst we are not overwhelmed with depth I see trading one of Astbury, Elton or Griff is feasible. And whilst any of these three could go on and provide great service to a new club you ultimately have to give something to get something. The other area we have some depth is in the medium defender space with Batch, Dea, Helbig for me potential trades. I don't particularly want to get rid of any of the above however continuing to turn over with an eye to filling bigger needs (true midfield depth with speed and skill, Ruck and small forward) is vital.

I wouldn't move Astbury or Elton. Both have shown a lot. Griff to me is tradeable provided we get what you've said. A pick about 20. If he can find a bit of mongrel by the end of the year then he becomes untradeable for me. It's the one missing piece to him but it's such an important one.

Of the medium defenders I wouldn't trade Batch/Dea for a draft pick. Batch has proved he can play at the level and Dea showed a lot against WC. No point trading them for an unproven draft pick unless they ask to leave. Helbig is a midfielder and not a medium defender. Wouldn't get us anything in a trade so we need to keep him and hope he develops.

Looking good so far, Danog. From the Tigers point of view though, The have got us selecting two midfielders who aren't overly quick, and one of them has inconsistent disposal (Cripps). What we need is someone in the mould of a Jetta, Rioli, Christensen, Motlop type player who is lightning quick, and good disposal. Someone like a Dwayne Wilson or Jarman Impey. I think we will go for the best available midfielder with our first pick, and then try for a quick flanker type with our second, because our side is very one paced, and we don't have anyone (Apart from White or Nahas) who really takes the game on.

Tom Boyd goes to my old school. He was in year 7 when I was in year 12. His dad was my junior coach for a year at norwood in the EFL. The kid will be a champ, not only because of his talents but his attitude. In saying all of that do not trade Jack for him!!!!! How stupid can some people be!!! Get real ppl!!

A few random thoughts.

1. I wouldn't be drafting more KPPs. Most teams seem to have about 8-14 KPPs on their lists. Richmond still has guys like Elton, Astbury, Griffiths, McBean, and possibly McIntosh. These guys still have value to Richmond, I doubt they'd get be good trade bait, they'd probably yield something lower than their draft position, which seems pointless. Drafting more KPPs wont provide that much depth, they'd be most likely to be behind the current KPP group.

2. If Richmond is going to draft talls, I want them to be able to ruck, bar Maric, Richmond doesn't really have an afl standard ruckman on it's list. If that means someone like Hannath, then it means that.

3. If you look at Richmond's bottom six, for mine it's comprised of guys like Grigg and Jackson. Tuck needs replacing, but I feel like if Richmond is able to pick a gun attacking midfielder, that would allow guys like Vlastuin and Conca to take up that load. So someone who has elite attacking skills should be targeted. This may mean changing the type of player Richmond targets in the draft, but I think it's an important shift. It may also give Richmond another 185-190cm attacking weapon, a guy who is tallish and ergo tough to mark up on, but can also attack.

1. I think we should take at least 1 KPP even if we don't trade any out (provided they are deemed best available). Wouldn't use an early pick though. (3rd round onwards ideally) Reason being that if we keep picking 1 up each year we avoid getting in a situation like 2008/09 where we have no talls and have to draft them over possibly better midfielders. Keep re-generating. They become good trade bait anyway.

2. We need to take a ruck or 2 as well. Probably trade for one that can play now and rookie a kid for the future. Again, they become good trade bait later.

3. We definitely need an attacking wing type. And it seems Salem is our 1st round target. If we think he'll be available I'd probably rather take him than trade for Adams. Suits a need more. Not quite as tall as your range but he's quality and could put him on the opposite wing to Ellis and we'd be looking awesome. If we can nail that then another big inside mid who tackles with intent would be great or a small forward like an Impey/McCartney.

Fair enough, I'd be happy using a third rounder on a KPP, considering that would be about pick 50, and the first two picks are what we need to get right and nail that attacking midfielder or wingman.

I'd be considering the mature age pickup, just not another Derickx. Someone like Hannath could be good, a guy who can pinch hit and play a few games here or there. 3 is a problem, but 4-5 is acceptable.

Yeah, I think Richmond is good for inside types. Richmond needs to select Arnot, I'm hoping he gets a game against say Footscray. I'm hoping Foley can stay around, he's turning 28 which is okay, Tuck is getting older but I feel he can stick around, if not I think Richmond can cope. Every other midfielder playing is young enough to play in the next flag tilt. So someone who has good foot skills going forward but also has goal kicking ability. Someone between Prestia and Rioli perhaps? Maybe asking a lot, then again, those players were drafted around where Richmond's pick will most likely land. Even a guy like Menzel, who is a really good kick would be great this year I feel. Someone who can combine with Martin going forward to provide Richmond with two gun attacking midfielders ahead of the ball.
