For Longer? First rounder and change. He would solve our ruck issues for a long time.

If we were to grab him, I would love a second rounder on top of our own to nab some quality kids also. We still need to grab kids as we have too many deficient players still getting a game and being relied on. Won't win a flag until that changes.

Absolutely but the change bit is the worry. What would they accept? If we don't want our spuds then I cant see them doing so either. Then trying to trade back into the second round has the same problems. To me would we trade a griff/astbury/dea/helbig/nahas as I think those are only players that 'might' be sufficient.

Interesting conundrum but longer looked very good preseason.

Oh, not sure. What would get us one? Would Jake Batchelor get us one?
If you offered him on BF you'd get a No. In real life I'd think you'd get one pretty easily. However, we paid a 2nd rounder for him, he plays well as Grimes' back-up, would we want to give him up for a pick that may or may not come good?

In regards to Longer maybe that change could be an Astbury? I think they'd want a young KPP.

Polec for Griffiths is another I'd look into. Both as injury prone as a person can possibly be. Both haven't lived up to expectations. Both could be looking for a fresh start. We need a skilful, quick winger. They need KPP's. Could be a win-win type of trade. Or a complete bust for both teams.

Let's see the offers come in for him......
TBH last year he'd get nothing. This year I reckon he'd get offers. The thing I find funny this year is he looks like he has all the time in the world because the oppo peel off him thinking he'll butcher it. Problem is he only butchers it under pressure. In the open, with no one harrassing him he hits targets with ease. Teams will work that out soon.

Very reluctant to trade a Griffiths but time is running out for him. I think he has been severly miss managed and poorly developed so it's not all his fault. I would want to keep the likes of Elton, Astbury, Griffiths and McBean. To get a Billy Longer though I would think hard about any offer.

Polec hasn't done it for me. Need to see more of him. Talented junior, but so was thousands of others. What's his issues, just injuries?

Jake Batchelor out in the AFL market would value in at a second round pick. At the moment he is a very good back up player. We would need to determine if the pick we get can get us a better player, if not we keep him.

Isn't there talk of him having a pretty poor attitude??

I can see where you are coming from with Griff, with his attributes he has currency. But I'd like us to keep him until the end of next season when we have our own VFL team. He is still only in his 4th year and the first 2 years had shoulder injuries. Big 200 cm guys often take to 23-24 to really start putting it together.

As I said, I am interested to see if he has any offers at all for him. From what I understand there are crickets at this stage. With good reason too. No contender would want him due to his deficiencies and would a developing team pay a over the top price to have him? For what reason? We (as in our club) rate him higher than any others.

It would be interesting to see what he is demanding too. We have some talented youth on our list, wouldn't want someone like Jackson getting paid an over the top wage that forces us to lose a talented kid. A Hardwick favourite who no matter what gets a game, its a concern to see him as a FA just because we have limited future funds in our salary cap to waste on the likes of him.

Conca, Martin, Rance and Riewoldt the main focus.

I'd only be willing to give up one of Astbury/Griff. I'd probably prefer to give up Astbury but I think Griff probably has the more value. Would never happen because too many players are involved but pick 12 and Griff for Longer/Polec I'd be happy enough with.

Maybe Longer and 3rd rounder for Astbury and 1st. Maybe even upgrade their 4th to our 3rd to even it up a bit.

I'd have McBean and Elton as close to our untouchable list as you can be. Unless it's a silly offer.

Batchelor I think I'd rather keep. He may only be back-up but it's back-up to a guy whose lucky to play 7-8 games a year.

Think he had a falling out with Vossy. My concern is he has no desire for the contest. No doubt big guys take time but they don't tend to just add intensity to their game. Also not sure our own VFL team will help him that much. We practically run the Coburg team anyway. We can play how we want right now. We just aren't very good.

I would imagine he'd be more valuable to us than other sides. Hopefully he's not asking for much. He will be coming off his best year so will be interesting.

everyone must remember to tape and watch the two U18 championship games this Friday on Fox Footy at 12 30pm, down at simmonds stadium. Its always great to have a glimpse now, but more importantly to watch the games closer to draft day to see who we would like.

Big day for me. Will be watching the NBA draft and then heading down. Cannot wait.

I'm not to worried about us being good, i know Coburg is average. And our depth was overrated, we rely so much on 1st year players when guys like White ect are in the 1sts and Tuck, Knights, Grimes ect are injured. We can cover them in the seniors but not the reserves.

I have long told people on this board that we run Coburg when they've kept calling for a stand alone team, but since the Club and Dimma is really pushing for it we must not have the control we want.

The big thing I want for Griff tho is to be left forward no matter if we are getting smashed.

Me too but I would have been happy for him to play defence last week in preparation for a call-up this week. The senior teams results are of more importance and if he can shut down Kosi again then that's a good thing for a) the team and b) Griff's confidence.

I'm concerned too. Hopefully don't lose a young gun out of it. WHo you go for in the NBA?

Orlando. 2nd pick in the draft. Feeling confident due to a man called Rob Hennigan. Bloke is a genius in the Trading and Drafting world. A guy I have studied now for a year and watched with interest. He makes Stephen Wells record look boring.

Will be fun for you. I'm Miami so we suck at drafting as well as having no picks which sucks for someone interested in drafts. :(

How does it work? Never taken much interest in the NBA draft.

Well you can trade picks as the draft goes on.

For instance if you want a kid desperately lets use the AFL example. Lets say Port took Vlastuin last year at Pick 6. We wanted him desperately. As the draft is going we could ring Port and offer them Pick 9 and David Astbury for Nick Vlastuin. So there is more wheeling and dealing.

The whole spectacle of it and the way they do the lead up and everything is first rate and something the AFL really need to take note of.

Sounds interesting, might have to watch it this year. Guess it could work the other way too. We could have traded into the teens for Conca and Darling and given 6 to whoever wanted it.

But how much times does each team get for a draft selection then?

5 minutes for the 1st round I believe. And the commentators have good insight on the players being picked.

Tell that to the Vickery bashers!
Agree. There's a massive, massive difference between Vick and Griff. Vickery shows a lot at times and also has his down games. He's inconsistent from week to week and even quarter to quarter. Griff should be striving for that level.

Polec to me just looks like another Cale Morton. Except he hasn't had the first 2-3 seasons that Cale did, which were oddly impressive. I rated him highly pre-draft and would've wanted us to take him were he available, but now to be honest I'd back Griffiths as more chance of forging a successful AFL career.
