I don't think Tuck will be there next year personally. I think he'll retire. I also think Grigg will be phased out in a year or 2. That leaves us with 4. I think the reasoning in my head is that there are quite a few good smaller players in the later rounds so bit worried taking too many similar types.

Don't disagree that much. But Sheed and Freeman would be my first choice even if they are smaller. Although i like the look of Bontempelli too, he did a great chase down on fantasia from SA i think which showed he had real pace but doesnt seem to be as well rounded (yet) or ready to go as the other two.

Still with his height and speed he could be that real burst clearance player if he learns to play more midfield. Not sure how much he plays there for Northern??

I think Bontempelli is probably a bit underrated on BF. Not sure he lasts till our pick but if we had 2 picks then I'd be inclined to take the punt. Quick, 191cm and very skilled. Marsh is another who I'd draft as a tall mid/HFF. Don't think he's a KPF but he is lightning.

I think Bontempelli becomes an inside midfielder long term with that size.

I really liked what i read before champs about Bontempelli and he was my favourite pre champs, but i've got a bit excited by the possibility sheed will still be on the board. And i love the description and the little i've seen of Freeman (i know you have too in knightmare's thread).

But i've just had a bit of a look around again at Bontempelli and i'd be very very happy with him too. had 30 odd possessions and goal for Northern on the weekend and 11 handball receives says he is running past his teammates a lot. Could be developed at first as the real quick linebreaking player a few around here are cheering for but overtime develop his inside game to be a scary all round prospect.

Hopefully he keeps going to the end of the year and being a younger player in the pool usually indicates more upside to come.

Just for those interested.

Yer I've been keen on Freeman for awhile. Having seen most of the kids last year but having not ranked them I've been using the phantoms as a guide of where they'd go. Was disappointed he didn't play first champs game. Was pretty good second. Made some bad errors. Still needs to learn how to rack up some easy footy. Not unlike dangerfield when he first started.

Anyone think Travis Tuck should be considered if Shane retires this year?
He looked all right the other night.
I don't really have an opinion on it but am just wondering what everyone else thinks.

Must have won on the weekend as the draft thread is halfway down page 2 ;)

What are peoples thoughts on Dunstan? Seems to be slipping down the draft order with Sheed. But another high production player at the champs, who seems to be sliding due to these great desire for xfactor and upside.

I'd absolutely love him. Just a class player. If, and its a big if, we lost conca to WC picking up Sheed, Lycett and Dunstan would more then negate that lose pretty quickly if not straight away. Both are captains of their state and have leadership stamped all over them and remind me of Vlastuin tho would have an even more immediate impact.

Both strike me as sure things and have the FJ ring about them with their obvious leadership qualities, competitive streak and looking to be model citizens who'll get the most out of themselves.

I'd take him top 5. Screams left-footed Floss to me. Would be a great replacement for Conca. However, if we keep Conca he may be a bit too similar to our other mids to draft with our pick 12ish.

Meh i'm not that worried about similarities between mids. Especially for guys who can all go forward, take a mark and impact the scoreboard like Dusty, Cotch, Lids, Vlastuin and Dunstan/Sheed (maybe both in my dreams). Ala Kennedy, Hannerbery, Jack, O'Keefe, Parker and Mitchell, or even go back to Bartel, Corey, Selwood, Kelly, Chapman, Enright (more a HBF) and Ablett. Heck you can probably count Hawks too with Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis and Hodge.

Yes these teams have found a Rioli, Christensen or a Jetta but they rely on high production, super consistent hard at it players at its core. And quick accurate ball movement is always faster then by running.

I personally think we are not as lacking for that special factor anyway, Martin, Deledio, Cotchin, Vlastuin and Edwards all have it. Add in McDonough who i think will be special and its not that much of a worry.

I'd still happily snap him and Sheed up if we lose Conca and have 2 1st round picks. Dunstan has some good size about him. Or trade one for Adams. Add some pace in the second round or later.

James Battersby is a defender/inside midfielder who is already killing it at SANFL level.

Was awesome in the televised games in the champs. Would be very happy with him with our second pick. Looks a natural footballer and built like a brick s***house.

I'm actually starting to think if we lost Conca and 2nd round pick for Lycett and 1st round pick we would come out ahead. I love Conca but think Sheed or Dunstan could replace him pretty quickly or at least replace Vlas who would take conca's spot. Add in Lycett and we fix a lot of our ruck troubles in one move.

I'd also add to the above who do you genuinely feel would make a greater impact on the current Richmond side? Jetta or Parker/Hannebery/Mitchell, Lewis or Rioli, Christensen or Mitch Duncan?

Looked good at champs and obviously doing well at SANFL level but another one of this years midget brigade at 177cm. Still would look at him in the 2nd and 3rd round.

Yep was sensational in the back line.

Is he mature age? Also where would he rank (second rnd/thrid rnd?)

No 18yo. I haven't seen enough of all the players to make my own judgment. Knightmare/Chris have him 3rd round but I'd be shocked if he lasted much past our 2nd.

Yep. That's the downside and if we target Adams we probably become a bit small.

Agreed, but I reckon Blair could push it to a 3rd instead of 2nd. Genius negotiator.

Lets say Conca leaves:

In return we get Pick 8 and Lycett.

We than use our picks on:
Pick 8 - Sheed
Pick 10/12 - Bontempelli, Dunstan or Freeman
Pick 30 - Gartlett if his off-field behaviour has improved.
Pick 48 - Battersby or Cripps.

That would be one awesome off-season, though I haven't seen Battersby play but judging on his reviews he would a good addition.

Whats your opinion on Cripps tigs2010. I liked what I saw in the second televised game of the champs, but don't know a lot about him, other than he had a very good game at colts level on the weekend.

Probably more likely to get Battersby followed by Garlett.

Think we may ignore Garlett going by what C4 wrote about us not wanting to be burned again after Troy Taylor. Snoop on the drafts forum said a few clubs still had a big strike through his name this year still despite improvements.

All of which is a bit disappointing because at a 3rd or 4th pick he represents value and if we keep Choco, moving Garlett to Melbourne (from Perth so the adjustment wont be as bad as it was for TT) it could be an inspired choice.

In my dreams its starting to look like trading Conca to WC for Lycett and 3rd (more likely 2nd but you've sold me on 3rd in my dreams) Dunstan @ 8 Sheed @ 12 and Garlett @ 30. Absolutely nobody on here could complain except Magic who would be disappointed we didn't trade Jack or Lids for Boyd.

I like him but not sure he's as tall as the 188cm he's listed at. Real contested beast who is a decent kick. Don't think he played last year in WAFL colts so didn't get to see him. I've read a few things saying he's not a good kick so maybe I've seen the good bits. From what I've seen I'd be happy with him in 2nd/3rd round but would like to see more first.

I thought there was talk Garlett might go as high as late first round?
It's going to only take 1 team to pull the trigger but I have my doubts.

All I know about Garlett from our end is we have been to watch him so we haven't ruled him out. Whether that amounts to anything I have no idea.

IMO he's a 3rd round onwards. Once the more safe bets to be good players are gone then someone will likely take the punt.
