Paige attended champs but hasn't attended TAC Cup games until recently, when she got a gig on TAC Cup radio.

She has good relationships with the players but gets a few key details wrong sometimes, which is the knock I suppose. Said one of Dom Sheeds big strengths was his speed, for example. In all honesty it's understandable given she does all of the U18s coverage on her site by herself, whereas BFGN has a team that goes out to about 80-90% of games.

If you're covering it by yourself it's pretty hard to get everything right. Odds are you only see a guy once or twice. End up overrating spuds and underrating stars. I'm not looking forward to looking back on my 2012 phantom draft in a few years time. :p

Are you doing Richmond in the phantom draft on your site?

Nah, there's a dedicated team of U18s watchers for that.

I think Richmond got Dumont in the 2nd round which is ridiculous but awesome. :D

Also enjoying the write-up on one of my favourites Darcy Cameron.

Draft the kids with the highest endurance. Caps are coming in.
I think versatility is a better target. Draft kids who can play in a variety of positions so that they can make on-field rotations. Bartel, Mcveigh, hodge, watson and even griffen have all added the ability to play in a variety of positions.

Rumour that Dayle Garlett 'chucked a sickie' on a meeting with Port recruiters. What the hell is wrong with this kid?

I would have said I can't see him being drafted again this year, but now Essendon have lost picks 1 and 2 I reckon they might just take the punt in round 3.

Could work the other way. They need to nail pick 3 not take some flyer on a kid in hope he gets his head right.

I'm starting to warm to Taylor. There's a difference between a 180 and a 190cm midfielder, but there isn't that much difference between a 170cm and a 180cm midfielder IMO. On average, neither will be great marking targets, and both will be mainly ground ball players. I'd hope that if Jackson does pick up someone else, he doesn't just pass on this kid because he's too short, but I feel like Prestia went way too late even at number nine, and Kennedy will probably be better than half of the players who went before him. It seems like clubs fear the danger of a midfielder being too short, and some clubs are finding bargains. I really liked him at the champs, and I think his combination of the ability to win the ball and kick it well will be vital, as well as the fact that he's bloody fast and seems to run all day. I reckon he'd be fairly versatile too, being able to play in the midfield as well as act as a fairly nimble forward. I just don't want Richmond to pass up on possibly one of the better players in the draft because of height, which along with pace is one of the most overrated traits in midfielders. It's not as if the midfield is short either, Vlastuin, Martin, Deledio, Grigg, Conca, Cotchin, Jackson and Tuck are all over six foot. If Jackson says "oh, we picked Cripps because he really has that height to hurt opposition" I'll tear my eyes out.

Part of me wants Essendon to draft Garlett with their first pick (which will be something like 45 if they don't trade, heheheh) so they fully embrace the concept of being the AFL's Icarus.

Just read a Phantom draft and we were given:

Matt Crouch
Dwayne Wilson
Ben Cavarra
Darcy Cameron

Just wondering how the draft experts here would feel if that was to be how our draft panned out, assuming we weren't able to land Adams.

Paging tigs2010 TFLUA-Tiger Tigerbob MR

I've only seen Crouch play maybe four or so times, so go easy on me if I'm off base here, but he seems to be the kind of player we've already drafted a few times, the kind of solid citizen type who does a number of things well but doesn't have amazing athleticism. I'd be disappointed if Richmond picked Crouch over more talented players. Salem offers something special, and I think Dunstan is a better combination of inside grunt as well as class. I find her phantom draft a bit odd, I know that every year, there is a chorus of fools who say that "player x will never go that late/early" only to be shown up, but I'll be fairly surprised if Dunstan goes at 22. Halve that number and you have a better idea of where he'll go IMO. I saw him in the champs and his kicking is more than fine.

Agree. I feel the same about Hartung. He'll be a good player IMO.

I'm hoping if we trade our first pick for Adams or Longer we'll upgrade our second with Griffiths and have a shot a snagging Hartung in the early 20's.

Hartung is a gun, underrated in most parts where he's considered to be around 15-25 prospect. Elite kicking, elite endurance, elite pace, great goalsense. If the AFL is trying to make this game faster and less contested, then picking Hartung may be one of those genius calls which puts Richmond ahead of the curve. But there's part of me that thinks that surely SA won those games for a reason, which makes me think that someone like Dunstan is our man. He was awesome in the champs and was one of the main reasons why they dominated along with Scharenberg. I like the idea of Wilson, he seems exactly what Richmond needs.

Anyone reckon Ben or Shannon Rioli from NT Thunder are worth a late pick/rookie punt?

Willy Rioli is the one to target! has been kicking bags of goals in the WAFL Colts, uses the ball really well forward of centre and averages about 4 score assists each game.
