How do they compare to Griffiths in terms of speed?? I know they obviously have a better competitiveness.

Also if Hogan were available would you take him over Boyd??

Griffiths is a better athlete than both of them. That said Patton does have a few surprises up his sleeve which you wouldn't expect.
I'd go Boyd. Just a far better monster forward than Hogan. That said, wouldn't mind Hogan at the tiges. :P

Makes me even sadder about Griffiths.

But Eastern have had some seriously big key Forwards, Travis Cloke, Griff, Boyd and Patton.

Know it's early, but here's a rough go at 20 to keep an eye on for next year:

In no order.

1.Alec Waterman (WA) - Son of Chris. Midfielder/HBF who can find a ton of it.

2.Clem Smith (WA) - Lightning quick midfielder who throws himself around. His game still needs lots of tidying up, but he's got x-factor in spades.

3.Tyler Keitel (WA) - Nice sized KPP who can play both ends and moves well.

4.Peter Bampton (SA) - Is more than at home in senior football already. Competitive bull who will come into his own next year.

5.Sam Durdin (SA) - Was very good for SA in defence and as a resting ruckman, but is apparently most potent up forward. At 196 will be one to watch.

6.Jesse Watchman (SA) - Him and Durdin will form the twin towers next year. 197 cm who can play forward and back.

7.Lachlan Weller (QLD) Brother of Maverick who is a little more outside than his brother. Got lots of go in him.

8.Joe Maishman (Geelong - VC) 178 cm midfielder who plays as the Falcon's creator without Taylor. He's fleet of foot and gets into acres of space. Maybe a little knock on disposal/decision making.

9.Daniel Capiron (Dandenong - VC) If you come along to the GF you'll see why I'm hyping him up. Will get given the big task on Christian Petracca and although he's only light (184,67) his game smarts and superb reading of the play means that he's the only one capable. Can play everywhere.

10.Patrick McCartin (Geelong - VC) Dominates TAC Cup as a big bodied KPF and kicked a bag against WA for Vic Country. Still carrying a little bit of puppy fat, but possesses really good running ability. Really strong hands.

11.Hugh Goddard (Geelong - VC) Goddard's silky moving and athletic and complements McCartin perfectly. Can play at either end, kicks the ball really well and at 196 cm is a fantastic size. Will be hoping for a really dominant year next year.

12.Peter Wright (Calder - VM) A 202 cm monster who doesn't play in the ruck. Wright plays predominately as a key forward for Calder and moves really well for such a big unit. Hands are good, and he kicks quite a few from ground level work.

13.Tom Lamb (Dandenong - VC) At 191 cm's is a perfect size for an outside midfielder. Dandy play him off a wing, forward flank and even deep one-out in the goal square. Very good athlete who really hurts you with his explosive running and power. Does he hurt you with his skills though?

14.Christian Petracca (Eastern - VM) He's got lots of press because he kicks lots of goals and still missed AIS selection. 187 cm, 96 kg forward who can push into the midfield if required, but is best up forward where he uses his unique combination of strength, smarts and marking ability to really hurt you on the scoreboard. Can leap high. How quick is he?

15.Darcy Moore (Oakleigh - VM) F/S to Collingwood who at 198 cm is a very nice size for a KPF. One of a bunch of really good KPP prospects.

16.Sean McLaren (Sandringham - VM) Really benefited from Boyd's injury that pushed Apeness forward as he got lots of attention at the Champs and played predominately as a ruck. Lumbering lad who probably needs a few cm's at 197cm's, but he takes some grabs around the ground and has a bit to like.

17.Duom Dawam (Western - VM) Part of the next wave of the Sudanese contingent (there's a few for 2015 in Dandenong) to really hit the AFL, and Dawam's one to look at if only for his size and athletic potential. 200 cm's but really, really light but he's got bucketloads of potential and x-factor. High leaping ruckman who you'll be compelled to watch.

18.Jake Lever (Calder - VM) Lever's as close to Tom Cutler as you get. He's made the AIS as a smooth moving third tall who has heaps of versatility, but the question remains, where does he play at AFL level?

19. Matt Hammelman (QLD) Another smooth moving tall forward with some serious hype.

20.Jarrod Pickett (WA) Speedster from SA with lots of hurt factor.

Some other names to remember: Matt Ah Siu, Ryan Lim, Isaac Heeney, Jaden McGrath, Jake Maher, Angus Brayshaw, Billy Stretch, Mac Bower.

Nice list. Just on the South Australians, Durdin and Watchman will switch places all year but I like Durdin down back and Watchman up forward. And that's how imagine it will play out when they're together, they'll be the book ends. The reason we'll be able to do that is because we have Peter Spurling in the ruck, very athletic with good hands.

And expect Mac Bower to the Scharenberg of next year's draft group - 190cm, excellent across half back but then kicked 22 goals in 6 games as a forward (including a 7 goal haul in the Reserves, not U18s). I have him top 10 at the moment.

Jack Donkersley, Josh Pobke and Jake Johansen are others to look for.

Thanks for the feedback, Chris! Seen more of the Victorian kids than I have anyone else, so the list is a bit more Vic-friendly than it might have been otherwise. This will change with champs, and my relocation early next year.

Who's your early favourite from the 2014 pool?

Other than the South Australians (Bower is perhaps my favourite at the moment, with Watchman), I like McCartin as the best KPP. Am also a fan of Lamb, and obviously Smith. There are also three indigenous kids I really like - Bohdi Walker, Jermaine Miller-Lewis and Nakia Cockatoo.

I think this dampens the concerns about the lack of talls. If the 2014 draft is full of rucks and KPPs, which it looks to be, then Richmond only has to wait a year.
How do you figure? If we only draft them next year til be 3-4 years after that before they start making a real impact.

Because I'd rather draft a tall in a draft where the talls are actually good. I believe in best available. The point is that it's not as if there wont be a good draft for talls, it's clear that the next draft will readdress the balance between small and tall.

I like the list btw. My knowledge of next year is limited but I love Pickett, Smith, McCartin, Bampton.

Watching the Foxtel Cup earlier in the year Peter Bampton was a standout for me - big body for a 16 year old and went in hard. Kicked a few good goals too from memory

Comes alive! I want him to show us the way!:thumbsu:

My prediction for how the top 10 would pan out if it were to happen now. A lot can obviously change.

1. GWS - Tom Boyd
2. Melbourne - James Aish
3. St.Kilda - Matt Scharenberg
4. Western Bulldogs - Josh Kelly
5. Gold Coast - Ben Lennon
6. West Coast - Dom Sheed
7. North Melbourne - Luke McDonald (F/S)
8. Brisbane - Matt Crouch
9. GWS - Jonathon Marsh (Think he will be the bolter).
10. Collingwood - Jack Billings

So still plenty of talent left for our pick which I imagine is why the club is looking to keep our first pick (11) and use players to get Taylor Adams to the club. But if we could do a deal with GWS where they get pick 11 and Foley for Adams and pick 20, we would obviously get a potential A grader in Adams and could possibly get a slider in Dunstan (less likely to slide after recent performances) or Salem who i'm sure we would be very happy with. Now i'm not sure if we could obtain Adams and pick 20 for Foley and pick 11 but any deal similar to this would set us up very well for the future, especially if Martin signs.

Lastly one player who doesn't have much hype around him that I like a lot is Patrick Cripps. Good by foot and excellent by hand, great around stoppages though a little bit naive defensively which will improve with age and a good tackler to go with. Reminds me a lot of Josh Kennedy from Sydney and any team who picks him up will have a very good player on their hands. Thoughts tigs2010?
