The jungle drums were beating pretty loud that we were going to take Vlastuin last year. Anyone know where we sit with pick 11 if we don't trade it for Adams? Just reading some of the profiles of the draftees and this Lennon kid sounds good.

Given our record over the last few years I'd hope the club keeps silent about who we'll be aiming to pick because that saves other clubs from doing their own research.

Dan Richardson (I think?) did say we'll look to recruit a key forward this off season. Could be looking at Thorpe

That's interesting.. hopefully because they are looking at putting Sticky Vicky in the ruck more. Give Griggs a chop out

Seeing as we are akin to drafting older heads who are a short term solution to help develop the youngsters - I think if Paul Chapman is available, he is def worth taking for 1-2 years, and play as a FP only and give him some development coach role. He will add more than take from the club, and Mcdonough will learn a LOT from him.

Was going to point out Acres as a tall mid as we didn't really have many but our midfield is a lot taller than I thought.

Grigg- 190
Deledio- 188
Jackson- 188
Martin- 187
Vlastuin- 187
Cotch- 185
Conca- 185

Tucky was 192 as well, leaves really only Foley (178) and White (180) as small mids

So pretty much everyone who seems to know what they are talking about is predicting that we will take Salem with our first pick.

Great website on the draftees for those interested - http://www.scpaige.com.au/draftee-profiles/

Salem's write up is particularly impressive:

"Incredibly well balanced on both sides of his body, Christian Salem is physical and strong and loves to tackle. Draft enthusiasts have nick-named Salem as “the hunter”, and it’s not hard to see why. He hunts the ball carrier, he harasses, corrals and puts pressure where the ball is – more often than not coming out with the ball himself, or at the very least causing a turnover. Tackling is the highlight of Salem’s game, along with innate ability to use the ball either side of his body, Salem is a beautiful kick and knows how to finish on goal. Salem has a lot of Luke Hodge in the way that he plays; he’s hard, uncompromising, tough, courageous and will put his head over the ball and never shirk a contest; he has a very combative style of play that makes his teammates sit back and think “Gee, it’s good to on this guy’s team!,” with every team-oriented act he displays. Salem’s work off the ball is also a feature of his game, especially in the way he blocks and Sheppard’s and gives “unrewarded runs” to draw his opponent away from dangerous areas – his footy smarts are unbelievable, and is the epitome of a team player. Perhaps however, the best part of Salem’s game is his gutsy two-way running, which is paramount in today’s game. He has a huge tank, and offers some very good leg speed, and is at his best when he can give, get and go. Although predominately an outside player, Salem has some serious scope to be a very good inside player, with all of the physical attributes suited to that position. He could turn out to be one of the most balanced and well-polished players of his draft crop, and will add instant depth and substance to any teams midfield rotations."

I'm torn between he and Adams... Big time

I would really like to see us look at Jonathan Marsh for a 2nd round pick and Toby Nankervis/ Michael Apeness for late pick/rookie.

If I have the choice over Salem and Sheed Im going Sheed all the way.

He is the exact type Francis Jackson has taken as a first rounder. Not the most talented, exciting prospect, but he is a solid contributor with a team first attitude and unless injuries prevent it, will be a 200+ gamer. He is the safe option at our pick, and is in the same mould as Vlastuin, Conca and Ellis in terms of commitment, attitude and work ethic.

I think FJ will take him, as he seems to be the type of player that he loves, but if Sheed or Freeman are there, I'd hope we take one of them ahead of Salem. Sheed probably won't be, as West Coast are heavily into him with Pick 6, so between Salem and Freeman, I'd hope we take Freeman, but wouldn't be unhappy Salem, similar to Grundy/Vlas last year. Wanted Grundy, but happy we got Vlas.

Wouldn't mind Ben Lennon or Nathan freeman at pick 11. Lennon looks like another Dustin martin type, would he last to 11??

Yeah, really like Lennon, odds are he'll be gone by 11, tipping FJ will pull a left field selection anyway, he'd probably pass on Lennon, too obvious.

I wouldn't mind looking at Nankervis. I watched him play in the u18 champs and he absolutely dominated. Despite not being particularly tall he dominated the ruck. And at crucial stages of the game he drifted back and forward to take chop out marks and the defense and kick goals up forward.

He was the standout player over Kade Kolodsomething and Eli Templeton convincingly. People seem to be underrating him a bit even though he was all Australian ruck.

He could be a steal with a mid/low pick

I like Nankervis, but I don't think he has the ability to become an AFL Ruckman, and I see him as a less talented Vickery. He would be more suited to being a second/third tall who can rotate through the ruck, and given we have Elton, and McBean, I can't see us giving Nankervis a go. If you had of said Lobb or Darcy Cameron with our second I'd be happy.

Kolodjashnij had a very good carnival.

Agree. I think Kolodjashnij would be a good replacement for Newy in a couple of years time, but think there are more pressing needs on our list that KK. Not That I'd object to having him.

Why does everyone think we are going to give up Pick 11 for Adams? I am 99% certain that GWS will not accept picks for their players as they have too much young talent as it is. We will have to give up established player(s) to get him IMO.

Salem and if we can somehow pull it off and get Adams as well, me likey!!!! Midfield will be unstoppable in a year or two
