Would you be disappointed with Salem?

Not at all.

My post was meant to state the clubs intention. They want Lennon but think he will be gone, my thinking is at 7 to the Lions. They expect Salem to be available though and like him.

Me, I actually prefer Salem. I think his all round midfield game is great. Think he is typical safe selection by us who our fans will love. Lennon is top class saying that.

Salem would be a great get by us.

Aish is a better prospect than all of them being Lucas, Gaff, Toumpas and Morton. Kid has played in two back to back Norwood Senior Grand Finals, if he was soft he would not be playing, will be a good AFL player.

They aren't saying that Aish will be no good, Just that they are not as high on him as some others. And they're using evidence to back it up. Nothing wrong with that.

Hey Bob,

Do you see Billy Hartung being a sneaky chance to get picked up by us with our first pick?

And I'm saying it is incorrect. Would gladly take Aish at Pick 12.

I hope not.

I can't see it. Much better players will be available at that selection for us. One of Lennon, Salem, Freeman, Taylor, Sheed should be on the board.

No Shit we would take him at pick 12. I don't think you did get my point. Champion Data are saying he's not inside enough to warrant a pick inside the top 3 and is in more the 5-10 range IN THEIR OPINION. So of course that means he'd be great value to us at 12.

And that's why you don't judge players solely on statistics.

How do rate Aish compared to Gibbs at the same age playing SANFL? (If you saw him play)

I think its a lot harder for most players who are more outside to be elite at AFL level. I look at the high draft picks over the last few years and suggest very few make it to the elite level unless they have the inside game too or exceptional speed.

2004 - Tambling, Russell, Egan
2005 - Ellis, JON, Higgins and Hurn (Birchall and Thomas are very close to elite though Daisy has a very strong inside game)
2006 - Gibbs, Jetta and O'Keefe (Boak could be in this category too but he has a very good inside game but didnt before he was drafted - Gibbs is a very good player but is a tease as an elite player)
2007 - Morton, Myers, Palmer, Rioli, Vezspremi
2008 - Yarran and Blease (Hill is probably the exception this year but still not elite)
2009 - Scully, Sheppard, Melksham and Lucas (Jetta could be the exception this year but has only had one very good year.)
2010 guys probably deserve more time and Bennell looks an absolute gem, but i think Gaff has been found out personally, Polec been injured but doesnt strike me as a super star just another Grigg, Issac Smith is a handy player but not destined to be a star just another cog.

Yet Kelly at 2.

Off the top of my head I think their data comes from stats and percentages. Kelly was 36% but Aish was 24%. That's the difference of being too outside. Under 30% is not good. Reading the stats for some players they have listed they make a point. Gaff showing to struggle and was under 30%, Ellis going well and was aroun 36%.

Stats aren't everything but it makes for a good read.

Good source tells me should Collingwood keep their picks they'll take Nathan Freeman.

Hmmm...just watching them play I'd have thought the stats would be roughly other way around. Having said that Aish had the shoulder injury so probably was playing more outside.

It's why you don't recruit off just stats.

Interesting though that Gaff, Lucas and other examples used haven't quite made the step to AFL gun like thei junior careers would have suggested.

I think Aish is a gun, I watched him live twice his work rate for a kid is phenomenal. Skills elite. Smarts elite. Leadership aplenty.
