Get a slider at 18 and hopefully another at 25.

FWIW, I think Port is about to trade 14 for 20 and 27 (Gold Coast) which is an identical deferral in draft position (numerically) as is 12 for 18 and 25. 20 will go to Lions for Polec.

That would give the Saints 3, 12, Longer, Delaney, Bruce from the offseason. Hey, take X Man too!

But yes, I totally get the quality over quantity thesis

like Collingwood I subscribe to quality over quantity, particularly when you can push the quantity angle with rookies etc..

first the draft is so even between pick 5-20ish that you're not dropping quality.

second if you're clever you could get two quality players for the price of one. If we had of traded pick 6 in 2010 to two picks in the mid teens we could have nabbed Conca and Darling.

If last year we had of been able to flip pick 9 for 12 and 14 from GWS (which it is rumoured we tried) we could have ended up with Vlastuin and Grundy.

The players we are rumoured to be most keen on Salem, Lennon, Freeman and KK (i really hope not) look like they will all be gone by 12 so if our next favourite looks like he will make it to 18 why not trade down and get a free hit at 25. Its what West Coast are doing, they know Sheed will be there at 10 or 11 so they get a free pick to trade for Yeo.

Dunstan, Taylor, Dumont and maybe Acres (if he gets past Geelong) could be there at 18 and at 25 we could gamble on turning Marsh into a midfielder/high half forward or maybe another key defender like Gardiner or maybe Templeton.

In saying all that i'm not sure Saints would do it.

This year is not the time to do a reece conca and take a kid too early like Hartung. It's either Aish, Salem or Acres. Anything else and i'll be fed up.

And why do people have us with pick 46? Don't we have pick 50?

Wilson at pick 50 would be a steal I reckon. If we can develop his consistency he'll go alright.

where'd you hear that from?
if only he lured his brother after one or two seasons..

Has Emma Quayle made a phantom draft yet?

Not a media source if thats what ya want to know.

Would people be pissed if the midfielders we ranked highest were gone by our pick and the next highest player rated on the list was C.McCarthy and we took him. Obviously he's not a need as we are stocked in Key Forwards, however he will challenge Boyd for the best Key Forward to come out of the draft and has very good hands on him, like a key position version of Fyfe (probably is a better kick). Just interested in reading people's opinion on picking best available even if we may already be stocked in the area he plays in.

Also like the idea of trading down for multiple picks if we think the player we want will be gone by our pick. Though it is a big risk as we could lose out of someone who we thought was going to off the table and wasn't.

Emma normally does her phantom draft the night before the real thing.

Develop into good player. Then trade for gun pick.

It was 16.6. No doubt he is a freak runner and a beautiful kick of the ball. But the outside space that exists in junior level and even VFL just is not there at AFL level.

I'd take him in the 20's but not earlier.

Cheers TT & CM. Interesting CM I thought Conca was supposed to go late teen early 20's ? I'm not saying we should or shouldn't take the young man. But it seems once the club has someone they like they pull the trigger. If I recall Ellis was low to mid 15's in the beep. Not saying Hartung is an Ellis but clearly has a huge engine and I' d suggest will more than likely get better in professional environment. If we do take him I would trust our coaches etc to get the best out of him and get him to use his weapons to maximum benefit. If they deem there is a better selection before him so be it. Not knowing a lot about the draftees, I'm just trying to keep an open mind about them. One things for sure this is "No doubt" a frustrating time of the year, waiting I mean for the draft to come around.....:thumbsu:
