Draft Review 2013 - Redo the 2013 AFL draft

Because Bont is the reigning b&f from the reigning premiership team.

I'm just going by his performance last year which was better than Kelly and Merretts. But Bontempelli is only marginally in front of both. Could change by the end of the year that's for sure. Cripps won't leapfrog Bont considering his injury.

Why? It's not a redraft at the end of last year, how can you completely ignore his performances this year? By your logic Josh Gibson was the best and fairest of a premiership side the year before, is he better than both Kelly and Merrett too simply because of 1 good season years ago?

Once again, why are you going by the performances last year instead of the outcomes this year? Makes no sense.

Adam Treloar got the same number of brownlow votes as Bont last year in a much worse team, is Treloar worth as much despite his horrid season this year? No.

It should be on career to date and potential forward.

Bont is actually the best perfomed career to date and also the youngest of all of the players being thrown up. He is also the most versatile and capable of multiple roles.

I can't imagine any recruiting manager who would not pick him 1st from the 2013 list of players.

Incidentally, despite the effort of you and others, Bontempelli has been much better this season than you understand.

Not sure what being marginally younger than any of the others has to do with anything, but you are correct in saying he has had the better career. As such, like you say, recruiters would have him at number 1.

The gap has closed far more than people would've expected in a short time though.

Not sure if he's even had the better season. Merrett for instance will have 2 elite seasons by the en of the year compared to the 1 for Bont.

I've found Bont to be incredibly slow around contests this year, his disposals have also significantly worsensed.

Merrett best performed up to date
Potential wise I think Kelly is the most capable.

Also it's worth noting that it may be unfair to compare Bont with others, as

1. Bont has had his immense frame from the get go, while other skinnier midfielders were always going to take more time.
2. Bont is very much an incomplete midfielder, and I don't think he will ever become a fulltime elite midfielder. His versatility is where his value lies, as he will almost certainly outsize his midfield opponent when he goes forward. He probably will become an inferior midfielder than the likes of Martin/Dusty/Fyfe (So will 99% of other players), but will spend more time up forward.

1. Marcus Bontempelli
2. Josh Kelly
3. Zach Merrell
4. Patrick Cripps
5. Matt Crouch
6. Orazio Fantasia
7. Jack Billings
8. Zak Jones
9. Jayden Hunt
10. Dom Sheed
Others close:
Tom Boyd
Kade Koladjasnij
Christian Salem
Luke Dunstan
Dan McStay
Darcy Gardiner
Trent Dumont
Luke McDonald
Tom Barrass

It's a bloody good list. Plenty of 2001 about it.
McDonald is really coming on.

You really want to somehow prove that Bont is an anti footballer.

Bont actually was drafted as the skinniest with a frame to fill out.

He is playing a lot of key forward, but needs to develop more body strength. Not surprising for someone of his age.

Write him off if you like, but you are unlikely to be correct.

It's amazing how good this draft year is. From memory this was talked down as a really shallow draft at the time as well.

Just goes to show that draft crops are never as good or as bad as the experts claim them to be.

If I'm being honest I'd still take the bont on 1from that draft. Special talent. Kelly 2 and then Cripps vs merret is a toss up depending on team balance. If I needed an inside bull then Cripps. If I need outside class then merret. Can't lose either way. This bickering is embarrassing though. Enjoy the talent stop having a fruitless pissing contest

Did Bont drive over your dog?

Initially hated this draft. As i wasn't a fan of sheed. Now its looking promising with SHeed and Barrass looking very good and karpany showing like he can be a good contributer at the next level.

Luke McDonald quickly becoming a fine player this season despite some of the unrealistic North fans rankings.

Some of his contest work on the weekend was tremendous.

Some of his contest work on the weekend was tremendous.

Done his time in defense, relishing moving onto the wing where he excelled as a junior.

For what ever reason his kicking turned to crap in his first two seasons, I don't think he dealt with the pace.

It's returned to his predraft standard though, kicking is absolutely elite and he's gotten very strong through the core.

Could win our B&F.

Think he will be one of the more damaging mids in the comp over the next 5 years.
