I'm not arguing that Cox wont be rested once, maybe even twice this year. I just don't see him as a vest candidate, especially since he's a dangerous forward whilst resting there. Comparing him to other older and or injury prone players doesn't make your argument valid, since some guys are more durable than others, even in old age. Sandi & Kerr are both poor comparisons in this instance.
Him being dangerous up forward has no affect for why they'd sub Cox off. Cox isn't going to ever be subbed off because he isn't doing enough during a game, he'd be subbed off because they'd rather rest him up a little so he's fresher for the following match.

For example, Steve Johnson was subbed off during the 3rd quarter against Essendon last year, being best on ground before being subbed off (22 disposals and 2 goals) without being injured (played the following week). Geelong would have done this as part of their list management I assume (since the game was well and truly won). We saw West Coast do it last year with Kerr (an older midfielder who is extremely important to their side (like Cox)). Again, I don't think it's that likely he'll be subbed off as it looks like ~50% of subs go to players that get injured during the game then you'd also need WCE to be in the right position during the match (easily winning) and the right time in the season where they believe Cox could do with a rest. But some of you guys have attacked the guy that suggested that like he knows nothing and there's no chance in hell of that happening which I disagree with.

The way theyre playing they wont be resting anyone they'll be scraping every point to the last minute
Might say a bit about the Freo side as well. ;)

Both strong chances for a top 4 placing considering you'd pencil them in to win just about every one of their home games.

Id say they are more likely to rest nicnat who has done a week if training over someone like cox who has had a superb ps
Agreed in the first half of the season but come the tail end when Naitanui would be over his injuries (assuming everything goes to plan for him/WCE) that might change with some of their older guys.

Again, being rested is a hell of a lot better then only getting half a game off.

Nicnat has an on going groin/hip issue hes not a seasoned campaigner. cox is. nuff said. this debate is ridiculous every star has the same chance of being the sub.
Didn't realise every star was on the wrong side of 30 in a team that will clearly be top 8 and a strong chance to be top 4.

Did u not pick cox? Even if he is subbed it will be after we have 22-25 premiums so sideways trading him or dow grading him would be fine
He's in my side as Naitanui isn't playing early on in which he should have to shoulder the ruck. If/when he gets rested, it will be in the second half of the season to keep him fresh for the finals. Cox has been the best ruckman for a good while and I'd much rather start with him (without Naitanui) then get on him midseason when he's more likely to be rested.

Over 30s always look awesome early on in the season.

Only champs like Goodes are able to pace themself and come home strong.

You intially stated that you wouldn't pick Cox because he ws injury prone. That was proven to be a furphy.

Now you are questioning his ability to maintain form and avoid the vest. Which one is it then?

Just admit that you didn't pick Cox and you are hoping he fails - you can't keep your story straight.

I never said anything to the contrary. This is correct.

His average dropped right off last year and he's getting older. You're expecting him to get better?

Even if WCE are going to sub out Cox at some stage, it won't be until round 15+ at least and thats if top 4 is locked in. Stupid debate to have at round 1.

Unlikely to improve on his average but who knows when NicNat will return. Even if Cox doesn't improve he will still be top 2 Ruck over the year, especially with Sandilands' injury concerns, he will probably top scoring Ruckman again.

The reason I, and I assume many others picked Cox is he was probably the safest of all ruck options. The majority are either very injury prone or don't have a history of premium numbers.

No Naitanui early is a bonus in which he should be shouldering the majority of the ruck time which should equal to more points early and leave those that didn't pick him wanting to upgrade to him (as we all want the best premiums) and missing out on (hopefully) a strong start.

Will not surprise me if NN is subbed off at half time in round 2

will bump if happens

I picked Cox because he had 10+ upside, along with this NN has done a week of training for the PS and will start very slow and spend much more time forward. Eagles have a nice early draw and hes had one of his best PS to date.

The only reason Cox is in my side is because of Naitanui's injury. I doubt I'll keep him all year. IMO this will be the year that age starts to catch up to Cox a bit and Naitanui eventually overtakes him.

I agree with Juggs that he might cop a red vest or two later in the year. If West Coast are playing GWS or GC or somebody, Naitanui is dominating and West Coast have a comfortable lead, why not give one of your elder statesmen a rest? Especially considering that barring injury teams tend to sub off a KPF or ruckman more often than not.

NEVER! The mighty suns will be an almighty force this year! :D

Even though I can see where you are coming from, I still doubt he will get vested for any other reason than a possible injury risk. He may be RESTED a game or two come late season games but thats it imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if Naitanui was given longer. WCE don't have much to gain by rushing him back into the side (when they've already got an AA ruckman (although Naitanui certainly brings another factor that Cox does not)) and will surely play it safe imo.

I don't buy into Cox having a 10 point + upside as Naitanui has taken a far bigger role in the ruck and will continue to assuming he's fine when he returns (plays a very important . Also worth noting Naitanui hasn't really had that many pre seasons in his short career to date, his first couple he played through a dodgy shoulder yet was still able to do very well for such a raw talent. I can't recall if he had any problems with his pre season last year but has done well in the past from injury hampered pre seasons/seasons.

Yeh i agree i reckon they will give him far longer just saying from the horses mouth live what a coach said. They have a huge 2nd round game vs the hawks, especially if hawks lose to geelong one of the top 4 teams i penciled in gets off to a 0-2 start and most have tipped these 2 as the grand finalist.

What is everyone doing with Leuenberger this week? confirmed as an out last night apparantly

If he's not playing I'm going to completely change my structure.

All depends on who's playing but looking at two options depending on Berger:

R1 Cox
R2 Maric
R3 Blicavs
R4 Currie/Rowe/OHailpin

M6 Macaffer
M7 Stringer/OHailpin
M8 Rowe/Neade

With Berger I will downgrade Maric to Berger, upgrade my f7 to a premium, play Macaffer as M7. I'm not confident in Longer.
