Position 2013 Rucks

Hello Keystone agony tell me why my logic is so wrong here

Havnt said any logic is wrong, just said its still a while till round 1 and we dont know whether Rough will even play in the ruck (Bailey, Hale) possibly or who the cats rucks will be.

If they are playing Blicavs and Bailey isnt named then id suggest Roughy might be a decent pick just for round 1.

Lets just say Geelong only have Blikavs & Walker available for Rd1 just for a moment. Do you really think Hawthorn will play Bailey if this is the case? Or let Roughy/Hale wax lyrical and add another midfielder to their starting 22? It just doesn't make any sense for Hawthorn to play 3 rucks against a team without a proven ruck when they can take advantage elsewhere, is all I'm sayin'

So what your doing Gingy is having Cox/Rough (one rucks and one forwards)? + someone else rucking or are both in the rucks?

Than you have a DPP ruck/for in the forwards and after round one you swap roughead to the forwards, rowe goes to rucks and you bring SJ in?

So basically you just go back to the normal risk after round 1

RUCK SITUATION 2013

PREMIUMS
Cox: Lock, wasted in the forwards
Maric: Seems to be over priced after a freak year, groin rumors
Sandilands: Always injured
Roughead: Interesting option but unproven and can't see him maintaining 90+ average
Ryder: Injury concerns, consistency concerns, Bellchambers concerns, scandal concerns
McEvoy: Solid option but unproven
Jacobs: Solid option but tougher draw and will probably drop average
Minson: Just no
Naitanui: Has OP
Jolly: Injury concerns and best scoring behind him
Mumford: Always injured and new ruck rules will destroy him
Giles: Plays for GWS meaning he can't verse GWS
McIntosh: Always injured, best days behind him
Hale: Not with Roughie in the team
Bellchambers: Not with Ryder in the team and not a big scorer anyway
Goldstein: Horrendous form, Confidence shot, Daw and Currie are rising
Kreuzer: Not a chance while Hampson and Warnock can walk

ROOKIES
O'Hailpin: If only he was $40K cheaper. Will play but too expensive to have as back up
Gorringe: No one has any idea if he's best 22. I don't think so. Will play 10 games at most
Currie: Massive lock and a blessing although even he will probably not play round 1
Daw: Injured and will play 4 token games ensuring he's the O'Hailpin of 2014
Rowe: Might play the first few games but sweet nothing after that
Witts: Collingwood would rather they still has Dick so they could play him in the ruck instead of this guy
Grundy: May play 2 games
McBean: At least he's dpp...

At the moment I'm going Cox, McEvoy, Currie, McBean with Rowe on the FWD bench.

Cox & Rough in the rucks (Curry @ R3)

& Rowe @ F8 (Macaffer @ F7)

Not really, as I still have 200k+ in the bank:)

I guess I just can't take him seriously as a ruck premium. Not sure why just think he'll decrease in average.
Hahaha, I see what you mean. I'm still trying to get my head around how he had the most hitouts and second-most hitouts to advantage in the league last year, and I'm a Bulldogs supporter.

You're not paying attention. I said I have Cox & Roughy @ R1 & R2 with Currie @ R3 and Rowe @ F8 + 200K in the bank for Rd1.

What this means is I can trade my 89k R4 to Luey and Roughy to SJ in Rd2 if that is what the DT gods make available for me. If not, my Rd1 team is still well placed for Rd2 without making said trades.

200k is quite a bit of coin to have on the sidelines before lockout when we have 2 trades every week.

200k is quite a bit of coin to have on the sidelines before lockout when we have 2 trades every week.

I do this every year. 150k in 2010, 200k in 2011 which worked out well for me and 680k in 2012 (not so great) I really hate not having enough money to make the trades I really want to make at any given time so I always try to have at least 100k in the bank most of the year. I'm sure I'm in the minority when it comes to this though. Just a personal quirk, wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

I have just spent a very long time staring at my team trying to figure out the best way to replace Leuenburger. At the moment I have gone with Kreuzer and Smith in my rucks. Very very risky, but potential there.

This is all made harder by the fact that there is just no forward premiums that I am interested in (outside of the 3 in my team already) and no forward rookies.

How are you gonna be so sure Leuy plays round 2 if he isnt playing round 1. No surety.

I understood you pillager, not every pick is about trying to make value even though i see it that way, why not and try and pick each player thats gonna improve, maybe outside your captain (who i have the theory now of just picking the highest avg player - ala swan).

Im picking Cox because i can see him increasing in avg and also that DPP is also important right now.

Looking for value with every single player is... suicidal. Your 2012 is proof of that.

Don't give me the "I had a holiday" excuse. Your team was going downhill well before then.

Trying to find value in every single selection will mean that you will miss many of the guaranteed performers and you will more than likely pick up a lot of duds and/or non improvers.

I tend to go for the more obvious improvers, ala Sidebottom & Dangerfield from last year. Hargrave and Broughton turned out to be landmines and it is to be expected that these types of selections can be frought with danger. Porplyzia turned out to be the cheapy coming back from injury that worked out.

I think I have identified a few of the obvious improvers this year but my lips are sealed. ;)

our lips are sealed? so that means you will only mention the ones that succeed and fail to mention those that fail?

I'm sticking with Leuey & Currie for round 1 ruck. Rowe on the bench in the rucks & Cox in the forwards. i'd prefer to use my 2 trades after round 1 elsewhere if needed and not to bring in Leuey in round 2 or possibly round 3.

If needed, I will be more than happy to swap Rowe & Cox and put Rowe on the forwards bench. Pretty sure Neade will get a start in round 1

I picked Hargrave & Broughton last year, I am not infallible.

Hargrave, Broughton, Sidebottom, Dangerfield, Porplyzia & Marty Clarke were my value selections last year. Four of them worked out, two were absolute failures.

There is no way that I would make value selections with most of my squad. The number of viable value selections is dependant on a number of things:

Change of role
Players coming back from injury that have had a good pre-season
Natural improvement
etc...

The successful coaches will be able to identify which players fall into these categories and capitalise on the opportunity.

with the extra trades last year you would have sideways Hargraeve and Broughton and been on your merry way without too much hassle. this seasons smokies will only be smokies for a couple of weeks... fixture led smokies are going to be a key asset this year.

like Armstrong early if he gets named...

Ryder looked very impressive against GWS, even if it was only against Brogan. That contested mark he took against Davis was very impressive. Probably won't pick him, but there are worse choices this year IMO.

Outside of Cox, R2 is an interesting proposition this season. It may well be the defining position of 2013. IMO, having some wiggle room in the bank should help alleviate some issues in this position moving forward.

Hargrave was anything but a failure the increased trades allows you to pick improvers. i still wouldve finiahed top 10k and as i said i picked those players for fun as i couldnt finish the year and said i would trade differently becoz of holiday. said before season last year
