No need to guess......its pissing down with rain at Robina I take it?
I've heard AFLQ called in some favours and Cirque du soleil have set up their big top over the ground. Would've been hard to manage with those pesky power lines!

They are expecting a bigger crowd than Q Clash and need the revenue.

Looks like after yesterday's washout and probs not the last one this year, the decision by Carrara to play 5 practice games was a good move, let the boys play

The way councils are we'll need at least three days of sunshine (wed, thu, fri) for round 3 to go ahead
VOTE 1 THE NANNY STATE

Sunday at ours might be an option.
Gaz I will speak to you in the lead up to our game. We had the council out on Friday so they can see for themselves. Last year from memory we had two sessions for the whole season cancelled, this year we have already had 11 !!!!

AFLQ have a "massive announcement" tomorrow... Any speculation people?

I can only assume it is around the development at Ormeau.

Hey Oldman. I believe we have arranged for one for all of our Home Games so we should do.

Or has something changed an clubs now need to provide one for home and away games?

I understand where the league is coming from with Umpires in short supply and in huge demand but putting it back on the clubs is a bit harsh IMO. It is hard enought to find a boundary and goal umpire plus water carriers each week not to mention the difficulty in getting these sorts of supports for away games. I have also found that it is tougher to get blokes to help in the 2s and in the 1s usually a couple of 2s boys will pitch in or there is more people around to ask.

in complete agreeance re 2's umpire. Same in Div 2 reserves. I was under the impression rightly or wrongly that it would then mean div 2 reserves only had 1 league umpire to be assisted by a home team supplied umpire to allow for the div 3 seniors to have 2 league umpires.

Divo feel free to correct that.

Moro - numbers must be pretty short with u blokes as i know plenty still doing 2 games last year. We actually had the chick umpire on the weekend - she has as good a grasp on the rules as any of the male umpires and I think its great that she does it.

With volunteers in short supply it is near impossible to provide 1 x field, 1 x goal, 1 x boundary, 1 x umpire escort, 1 x interchange, 1 x time keeper, 1 x runner, 2 x water, 1 x trainer plus te normal operation of game day.

The few people at clubs that help are just getting drained!

very very true swoopa - buffs makes a good point it is often the 2's boys who do it in the 1's - be interested in know at how many clubs the 1's are running water for the 2's or helping out - been a "challenge" we have faced for a while.

we probably find it harder at home games then away games tbh.

We are hopeful the numbers stick around and the boys in the 4th div team get involved earlier - be some quality water running for those games at 5 pm on a saturday given the 2's have usually started the minute the siren goes!!

Amen to that... Can be really tough to get people to help out given how far spread footy people are now (amongst all the teams and new clubs...)

BOC - Numbers this year are a little light compared to last year as we have lost some experienced umpires but we have gained a number of younger umpires who have put in the hard wrok in juniors in the past years which is good IMO. The problem we have is that most community footy including womens and U18s is now on Saturdays. AFLQ are trying to get as many Div 4 games on Friday nights which will help them get official umps. In past years we have been able to do 2 sometimes 3 games per week end as there were more sunday games. This means that depending on how AFLQ rank the divisions there aren't anywhere near enough to go around which is why the ressies will need club umps. There have been a number of options discusssed like having 3 umpires do both ressies and seniors like we did a few years ago but AFLQ have their hands tied as there is a clear direction that community footy only has 2 umpire system in place for home and away fixtures. I understand where you guys are coming from and it's unfortunate AFLQ can't accomodate all games.

As for the female umpire, it's good to hear she did a good job we have 3 girls doing field umpiring (4 if you count me) who are all good and who i back to do a better job than me.

The above comments are a personal view and in no way reflect the thoughts of AFLQ
