This is all too confusing. The grounds closed, it's not closed. Other grounds were available but apparently unexceptable. Players were unavailable due to exams but PP33 says only a handful. Seems like their just trying to protect the 2's double chance come finals. 2 points is better than maybe none.
The only team they play above them now is Pine Rivers... Hmmmm .....

Hard enough for family men to sneak in a training session and game day without now being asked to reschedule to accommodate this ridiculousness.

44 fee paying customers of AFLQ have been ripped off this weekend. Enough said.

I am going to ask my club to forward a formal complaint against UQ to have this game declared a forfeit.
There is no way that the onus now falls on Coomera to play next Sunday or they forfeit, is acceptable.
All div 3 clubs should unite against this, there is no way to defend how this is acceptable.

Seems all to convenient to blame UQ sport for closing of the field.

There is no way a game should have been called off today, uni holidays obviously playing a big role in the decision.

We will be certainly welcome of any support from other clubs I am sure. It is not just unfair on Coomera, but on all clubs. Calamvale bust their backsides every week to field 2 teams and in fact had to forfeit last year versus Nambour. We have had times we have had over 10 players out and each time taken the field. Plus only 1 team in this league has access to a team in a lower division!

Personally I find this extremely disturbing behaviour and all teams should be questioning its merits. Congratulations to those teams who fought the torrential conditions to take the field ;)

Is the game going ahead or two points each the final decision? In surprised any games went ahead today, the sun was a little warm.
UQ offered to play the game next Sunday, after we play Carrara and UQ have the bye. If you think this is a joke, its not!

We are in no position to replay games outside of a Saturday with our players work and family commitments.

And if you guys turn that down, points split? I think UQ deserve the points. They have all that stress with Uni, working at subway etc

We have been told that if both teams can not agree upon a replay then yes we will have points spilt.

Obviously, this does not sit well with us. The disadvantage here is clearly with Coomera.

Good to see UQ 1st div got what the deserved today, an absolute belting! Probably why they didnt want coomera game to go ahead so to avoid similar outcome in div 3.

seriously , I will contact every club this week, this is wrong.

For Coomera as the away team to be disadvantaged when they did everything possible to get the game happening only to be stonewalled by UQ is a disgrace.
UQ shouldn't benefit from a situation they engineered.
Maybe AFLQ should ask for a list from UQ as to what players had exams Saturday and what time they finished. I did hear they had a long injury list
HONESTY AND INTEGRITY
I suppose if they are studying to be lawyers these two words would have no place in their vocabulary.

So now, if a team needs a draw or better in the final game to make playoffs, they just say the game can't go ahead for whatever reason and get 2 points. Not a good precedent for AFLQ to be setting.

I notice we haven't had the usual UQ people on here defending their club the instant something bad is said about UQ.

Not all of them have lives revolving around BigFooty. Can you blame them?

Hasn't stopped them in the past...but hard to defend the indefensible.

Perhaps. But making a judgement based on one teams perspective and not allowing at least an opportunity for UQ user (Which PP33 has already appeared once already) to show a UQ perspective is silly.

Its like the forum wants UQ to be guilty until proven innocent. But that has always been the case hasn't it?

If the shoe fits...

Because the shoe fits due to the opinions of the opposition and other users who have history of trashing UQ footy club on this very forum?

Once again, only one perspective, combined with an opportunistic attacks on UQ footy club. Hardly a case of the shoe fitting. Perhaps cement shoes since you seemly have already convicted them

I would think that based on their A grade teams recent performances that numbers are light at Uni currently. Would be REALLY disappointing if this was a motivation for reluctance in getting a game across the line. if it meant 22 Uni players had to double up in Div 3 reserves / 1sts then so be it I would have thought.

PP - no matter what the reasons, the club should be penalised heavily for it - starting with all 4 points going to Coomera. That should have been a given i would have thought.

Shoe fits because of the facts stated, that no one at UQ has disputed since Friday. Sure we can blame it on everyone at UQ being too busy for bigfooty, but as each day passes, it looks more and more less likely.

Its not opinions, facts are a game was called off when there was ample opportunity to move it.

I'd say that UQ might be wearing the concrete shoes but the poor buggers don'y have a leg to stand on.

I have in writing from the Kedron President stating that we are free to use their ground should we need it. I have spoken to the Wests Bulldogs president and he has stated that the ground is available for use tomorrow but may just need to move the games back a little. I have spoken to UQ sport at 8am who again have stated Oval 7 is not closed and have no reason why the game is called off. In round 2 the game was not called off until 10am saturday morning so we had every chance for the games to go on.

As I see it no attempt to has been made to make the game go forward so UQ have left them selves open to accusation. And don't worry we will do plenty of complaining at AFLQ level but just not on here.

This lie reiterates that you're willing to say anything to make a point, even if it's not true. I'm not going to get involved any further into the mudflinging that everyone seems so willing to jump to on this issue.

We may as well park the issue as the fact is the matches haven't been played and we can't change that now. We as a club will make decisions after some discussion amongst our committee, coaches and playing group this afternoon as to what we do moving forward.

We will just have to wait and see what transpires from here and the precedent that is set.

Happy Sunday everyone. Hope we all had a good morning at church. :D

woweee.....
At the risk of reigniting the debate can i supplement it with some facts - I have much respect for the regular contributors to this great thread but seems to me that the rant against UQ is proceeding in the absence of people actually knowing the facts. I am well placed to set the record straight since I was the one who was largely involved with the washout outcome from UQ's side.
Just to set the scene I am the Club Vice President. I run Div 3 and Div 4 teams from an admin point of view and am the only person at the Club involved in ground issues. I have been doing this for the last 3 years. I probably have more knowledge of ground availability etc than most of you because I spend every week trying to find a ground to play our Div 4 home games. Due to a misunderstanding with AFLQ we are now not allowed to play Div 4 home games on Friday nights at UQ!!
1. I was away interstate for work Thursday/Friday but heard we had had a fair bit of rain.
2. I followed the radar Friday morning/midday and saw that we were getting serious rain in Brisbane.
3. I texted Coomera President and senior coach about 12pm and said likely grounds would be closed. He responded saying that Coomera was available to play on.
3a. By chance I spoke with the Kedron President at about the same time on an unrelated matter - he mentioned that his ground was free but that it also was pretty much underwater.
4. I then rang Shane Biddle (head groundsman at UQ) and he said he was off to inspect but that he was sure they would be closed. He confirmed within the hour that the ground was closed and texted me photos. He mentioned that the rain was due to come back in heavily at midnight. I then received 2 emails from UQ Sport confirming that all ovals would be closed Saturday and Sunday.
5. Shortly thereafter I posted on Facebook that our ground was closed and it was likely we would be playing at Coomera.
6. I then received text messages from a number of players saying they couldn't play if the game was at Coomera. I also knew that there were some who had exams and some moving out of college etc. I quickly formed the view that in the circumstances we were unlikely to be able to adequately field 2 teams at Coomera as well as put a team on the park for the 5's game at 5pm. We were threatened with forfeiture if we did not play at Coomera. I questioned where that came from, checked the rules and there is nothing in the rules about it.
7. I rang Simon Devine at about 2pm to get clarification of the washout rule. The rule is that if a washout is called the 2 clubs have 2 weeks within which to agree to play the catch up game. If the clubs couldn't agree then it would be split points. Obviously a risk for us.
8. I got off the plane and at about 4 and spoke to Simon Devine at AFLQ. My previous experience with AFLQ (admittedly under Doug Hale) is that we simply cant wait till saturday mornings to call off games - that if you do that then we can be at risk of the forfeit!!
8a. I did consider Wests and Kedron as alternatives but having been told that more rain was coming in assumed that if their grounds were as wet as ours there was no way they would allow 2 senior teams to trash it the following morning - and we could well be facing a washout call the following morning. A decision had to be made then and there. The washout was called.
9. I gather that later that evening Coomera made investigations of Wests and Kenmore and were told the grounds were playable. By that stage the rain had stopped and it was perhaps possible that some games might proceed the next day on other grounds. Overnight we had reallocated players to our Div 1 teams as well as Wynnum reserves in Div 2. The fact that there was beautiful sunshine on Saturday morning proves nothing more than hindsight is a wonderful thing!!
10. Coomera are furious with there being allegations of working the system/not wanting to play etc etc. They say that if they had known earlier in the week then they could have played Carrara this week (that is ridiculous complaint as the washout only came about at lunchtime Friday). Someone from Coomera rang UQ Sport on Saturday morning to enquire whether ovals were closed and was wrongly told by the person on the desk that they were open. That only inflamed the situation. I am informed by the Hauff that some of their committee wish to lodge a formal complaint to AFLQ to seek that we forfeit the points. I have told them that if that is what they wish to do then they should do it with no hard feelings from the UQ club.
11. There was then some talk of playing today - that was not reasonable in any circumstance - which the Hauff also acknowledged.
12. It doesn't suit us at all actually to replay in the next 2 weeks because of uni holidays and many being away. Notwithstanding I have offered any weeknight (and that we are happy to meet Coomera half way at Beenleigh etc) or even next Sunday. Coomera say that weeknights don't suit because some of their guys work and that they don't want to have to get their guys to back up next Sunday after playing Saturday - understand all that.
13. They are playing Carrara next week. As it turns out Carrara have already forfeited their reserves because of lack of numbers so they want to play ressies next weekend at Coomera provided we put our card in on Wednesday night AND that we don't have anyone on the card who hasn't played at least 4 games in the ressies. They want it Friday night because they need to get ressies players back to do duties for their seniors game on Saturday.
14. I have told them that in the spirit of doing the absolute right thing here that we would be prepared to meet their convenience re a friday night game (it actually doesn't suit because
we have 6 core players not available) but that the game is to be in Brisbane. I also told them that our team selection will not be subject to any restrictions as we will need to bring guys up from Div 4 to fill vacancies.
15. So subject to getting confirmation from Kenmore that the oval next to Western Magpies is available we will be playing there at 7.30pm.
16. There will be a seniors game if Coomera want it. We are waiting to see what suits them in terms of timing and venue.
Summary
I totally agree that it would be usual and in the spirit of the game in a washout situation to discuss travel to your opponents ground if it was available. Life is not perfect and in this circumstance the requirement to do that caused significant logistical problems for us. I made a call based on what I thought was reasonable and in the spirit of the rules albeit at some inconvenience and risk to all involved. If I was wrong then firstly I apologise but secondly blame me and not the UQ brand. Yes there have been some robust discussions between Club representatives but in the ones I have had the Hauff has been a true gentleman.
All in all seems little harm done. Ressies will play their game this weekend and hopefully the seniors will also play at a time that is suitable enough to Coomera. The Coomera seniors have nothing to fear from the UQ seniors - They beat them by 33 goals to 2 goals in round 3!!
Hopefully we can all bury the hatchet and get on with playing footy which is what we are all about. We certainly look forward to hosting Swoopa's lads on Friday night in a contest which i expect will be hard fought if not close.
