I'll have a crack. Why not?

B Adcock Merrett Golby
HB Patfull Maguire Drummond
C Hanley Rockliff Rich
HF Zorko Brown Bewick
F McGrath Staker Green
R Leuenberger Redden Raines
I Black Beams Polec
S Karnezis
E Polkinghorne Lester Harwood

When I was doing this team it made me realise just how many good young players will be missing out if everyone is injury free. Polkinghorne, Lester, Harwood, Yeo, Crisp, Bartlett, Docherty, Banfield, Lisle and Longer. I could not find a spot for Hudson either if he chooses to go round again.

Players competing for same spots:

Beams vs Polkinghorne: I chose to go with Beams because even though they are different types of players, I think Beams could play Polks role better and also contribute in other ways. It is a shame because I am actually a fan of Jimmy but I can see other players overtaking him next year.

Karnezis vs Lester: I am a big fan of Lester but I think next year Karnezis will be primed for a big year after another pre season under his belt. I also feel Karnezis can add more to our side particularly up forward compared to Humphreys output up there.

Staker vs Lisle: I decided to put Staker at the full forward position as our second key tall forward even though he isn't really suited for that. The main reason he is at that position is because he can kick 2-3 goals a game and his versatility means he can play back up ruck and then become like another midfielder at ground level. So despite losing most of the taps, we will benefit with him at ground level.

Golby vs Harwood: This one could go either way IMO and even though I have loved Harwood's improvement in the backline for this second half of the year, I have decided to put Golby at the BP position because I feel Harwood will still end up a midfielder and he will benefit from playing in the backline this year. Unfortunately, Harwood will have to fight his way into the midfield through the reserves but as injures occur and certain players don't perform I am sure he will be given plenty of chances to come into the side and cement his spot in our midfield. I also chose Golby because I think he is still the better defender and he deserves his spot after his form this year which has been cut short due to injury.

Green vs Banfield: After both of these players form this year it was a pretty easy decision for me! Green has improved beyond belief and Banfield has gone backwards. Banners will have to grind it out in the reserves and aim to get his career back on track. In the mean time, Greeny will be dominating in the seniors:D

So there you go folks. That is my 2013 team at this stage but it will no doubt change before Round 1 2013. I hope you enjoyed the read and like my team although I am more then happy to read your own opinions and thoughts. I believe the team that I have named could really compete for a top 8 spot next year and I get so, so, so excited when I look at that team because I instantly look at all of the young players and picture them filling their potential next year and boy do we have some talented young players!

GOOOOOO LIIIOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would rather see Lester in the side more then Drummond.

Other then that players like Doc, Longer, Crisp, Yeo, Rhino are still young and raw and will take their chances through injuries of other players.

Polks, Bartlett, Banfumble and Lisle are on the wrong end of the age stick to be in the reserves, if they cannot slot into this team at their ages then they need to really step it up or could be shown the door.

Also at this stage I would only have Polec over Yeo if he has his break out season next year, We NEED Polec to have a big pre-season and have his breakout year.

For Round 1, it might look like this:

Golby Maguire Patfull
Adcock Merrett Hanley
Rich Black Rockliff
Bewick Brown Zorko
Green Lisle McGrath

Leuenberger Redden Raines

Drummond Polkinghorne Harwood Beams

EMG: Lester Yeo Crisp

Throughout the course of the season, personnel will change a lot. Fancy looking back on our own prediction of Round 1 2012 line-ups?

There'll be a few curveballs, no doubt. Hard to pick, but the changes to the current team will probably be: McGrath, Golby, Maguire and Leuy. Possibly Polec too, and Stakes is a chance although it's fair to say that whether or not he'll make a successful comeback is still very much up in the air.

I just have and I think Grimreepah will be reviewing these over the coming weeks.

Got to assume there will be at least one new face in the starting lineup next year. If not Tippett then possibly one of our first draft picks or maybe even one of this years untried rookies who has a breakout preseason.

Oh God. Can't we just pretend like that never happened? What was going through my head when I tipped Bewick and Maguire to be de-listed, yet left out Sheldon and Stiller?

Apparently I tipped 9 wins, so go the Dogs!

Nah it spurs them to greatness...
Well that's what I keep having to remind Grimreepah re my Rocky nomination in 2010 ;)

I do enjoy bringing that one up.

I made the first queston too long in this year's quiz. I'm a bit daunted about starting...

If I am Voss I tell the group that it has got to the stage where we do not have the youth excuse. It is time to start performing. I would say the only ones at this stage who are round 1 starters are Leuenberger, Brown, Merrett, Rich, Redden and Rockliff. Every other position is up for grabs and he will reward those who show the most over the offseason and reputations be damned.

He then needs to follow through on it. Time to create some serious competition for spots and judge everyone on what they can bring rather than just allowing marginal guys to just do enough to hold their spots. Guys will come from the clouds especially if they know they are going to be rewarded. I would have a starting 22 up on a board over the preseason and move guys in and out based on how they are performing. Show them that he is serious.

I have to agree with his statement. This is something that has not been evident for awhile with no fault to the club or the players. I would hope to see this especially over this pre season.

Well I guarantee that I will do better this year than I did last year :) *shame did not enter last year shame*
I suspect that Grim has a spreadsheet and may very well have either got this automated or been updating through the year where possible.

Seem to remember my over-optimistic self tipped something like 12 wins so I blew that one!

Why the shame... would you have nominated Browny to be delisted? :p
Still far too early to call but with my one good eye The Flying Belgian looks like he might be close to a podium finish...

The shame that I didn't even enter last year (actually I meant to but missed the cutoff)

I remember hearing Voss talk about playing Black as the designated sub next year and the more i think about it the more i like it. Most importantly i think it would allow Black to carry on another year and play all 22 games. He'd no doubt be able to reduce his training and game day work load meaning the knees would hopefully hold up.
Secondly he wouldn't be taking a full game off a young midfielder which would allow a transition to when he completely retires. By being the sub he would also be able to provide feedback and support to the midfield and also assist woewodin with the coaching duties.
Coming on late in the game with a bit of the speed out would hide Black's defensive issues and lack of speed. As shown when he was the sub earlier in the year he would always add something to the side and i think has been our best sub all year. In tight games next year it could mean the difference between making the 8 and not.
And lastly it would create a tactical headache for the opposition coach. Do you switch the tag onto Black in the hope of nullifying him which could free up Rich to run rampant. Or do you let Black do his thing and collect 20 touches in a half of footy.

would love to see docherty break into the team. Docherty, Drummound, Bewick, Rich, Polec a few super boots in the team and could see docherty develop into a really good rebound half back ( shannon hurn like)

More of a Heath Shaw Docherty has really good acceleration, but if can emulate either of those players we have a good half back on our hands. Should be playing seniors in 2013 hopefully.

Really exciting player! Agreed could be a heath shaw like player.

Just wondering what is the latest with Cornelius? Is he likely to be kept on or traded/delisted?

Could go either way really. I wouldn't be surprised if he were traded, but it would have to be for the right price. For a forward who's had a fair bit of development and has kicked quite a few goals, I reckon an early-ish second round pick might do it. I'd be very surprised if he were de-listed though. Kept or traded.
