As this is the future thread I'd like to see a few players played in some roles to see how they go.

Crameri and Hurley given stints in the middle. People were complaining about lonergans tackles earlier in the year imagine those two in there. ( more focused on crameri as mentioned earlier in this thread but Hurley mid was brought up in hird's presser)

And

Ryder CHB/FB. I think marks in our backline could become a real strength of ours And this guy would improve that 10 fold. Seems to play best when he has a role, no better role then being told to shutdown an opposition forward.

I don't believe those two scenarios are too outlandish and would be interesting what it brings to the team.

i could get used to JD starting out of the square and stew and hurls starting on opposite wings belting in with the intention to belt the living suitcase out of someone

If only you could get away with that these days. An AFL football ground during a game is one of the safest places on earth when it comes to being free from thuggery.

Looking to the future, I am going to have a crack at a team in 4 years (2016).

B: Michael Hibberd - Cale Hooker/ - Michael Ross/

HB: Dyson Heppel - Jake Carlisle - Courtenay Dempsey

C: Brent Stanton - David Myers - Elliot Kavanagh

HF: Alex Browne - Joe Daniher - Stew Crameri

F: **** - Michael Hurley - Trav Colyer

R: Paddy Ryder - David Zaharakis - Jobe Watson

I/C: Tom Bellchambers - Heath Hocking - Nick O'Brien - ****

/ = questionable
**** = need someone

Might cause a bit of a stir but just not sure I rate the complete depth of our list.
I'm presuming you aren't taking into account any draft picks we may land?

Doesnt have to be illegal. What was evident on the weekend was carlton just dishing the ball out to guys standing around the pack. Start crameri in their or on the wing and tell him for 3 bounces to target these outside guys and tackle/bump as hard as he can. Those players will not want that ball again.

Hell imagine Hurley, crameri and NLM running off the lines. Just target whoever is hanging off jobe

And if they get their attack on the man just slightly wrong, they get weeks.

I get your point, I just don't think it can be done in today's football without risking time on the sidelines.

Yeah fair point I guess it would be very risky.

These guys play foot full time. I'm sure they can get tackle right. The perceived pressure would do half the job anyway. You're seagulling for a throw from Judd, glance left, notice Crammers charging, you'll mess up your next touch, I bet.

Assuming the mids scrap for a few seconds, the boys would be close enough to execute a sweet tackle. It's not like you're putting Mal Michael in there to do it - these guys have some pace.

Davis has talent and the right attitude, expect him to cement a spot early on if his ankle holds up.
Browne will also be a lock, and more than likely Kav will play a few more than 2 games! JD you'd expect to play a couple depending on the availabilities of KPF's.
The drafting / trading period will tell us what TRB thinks we lack in terms of reaching a premiership, any new kids wont get much of a look in, as we arent that far away with our best 22 fit and firing.
We need the depth, and im not sure who loses their regular spot, but interesting off season to come.,

ok best 22 time.

Fletcher Hooker Hardingham
Hibberd Carlisle Browne
Heppell Watson Dempsey
Zaharakis Hurley Jetta
Crameri Ryder Davey

TBC Myers Stanton

Hocking Melksham Kavanagh Howlett

On the Cusp, Pears, O'Brien, NLM, Hille Lonergan, Merrett.

that's how I see it currently. But every single one of them are down so it looks much worse than it is.

That's the side that went 8-1 (with a few exceptions actually), thats the side that put 9 goals on the swans in less than a quarter. I'm reserving my judgement until the end of next season.

EDIT: prismall, winderlich and gumbleton notable absentees. They are in if they can hold together

This year could yet prove to be the catalyst of a very competitive year in 2013, or it may have the yip type effect on us mentally if we start the same way as 2012. I believe if we can strengthen some of our weaknesses and increase the ability of our depth, we should have a decent year. We do play ripping footy at our best, just need to say FY to injuries and get the boys prepared without so many casualties.

An easier preseason where the players aren't mentally and physically bashed.

Browne is a player who moves into our best 22. I still think Ekav could really come on.

Id like to see Crameri start in an onball position in our last game of the season and have Hardingham start forward. Daniher is a massive unit it looks for his age so cant see why he wont get some games. Having Ryder, Daniher, Hurley, Crameri all up forward could mean one has to play in another position.

I think if Jetta is still on our list he needs to try and make a craft down back, if that doesnt work hes gone.

Im still not sure whether i like Heppell as an onballer or is he just a good halfback flanker. I think Dempsey can only move up the ground if Jetta becomes that L.Davis, Yarran type half back. Maybe see if Colyer can make a craft as a genuine small forward.

I wouldnt mind trading Stanton

This. As much as I'd like two of him down back I would put Pears in for one of those Pigs. And I'd swap Jetta for Licka. That is my winning 2013 team.

hesitant to include pears, licka and prismall as I really don't know where they are at (pears looks on the way back though) but yeah. Licka in full flight goes straight in for me. And the other 2 create competition for spots at the very worst. That is also without factoring any draftees/trades etc who could play round 1 next year ala heppell.

If we don't have 31 soft tissue injuries next year its top 8 for sure

Well ya gotta put someone else in the backline - can't have Hibberd twice ;)

I would love to see crameri in the middle next week, we have nothing to lose so should be interesting to see how he goes.

In reading your post again I tend to agree with you. Ill go hardingham on the field then another mid onto the bench. Makes alot of sense.
I like that - one of the kids? O'Brien maybe? Look forward to seeing Prismall and Merrett during the preseason. Looking like a great team, although I'd love to have Gumbleton in there if we could - who would he replace?

When Collingwood gets the first eleven clearances, I won't be opposed to it! Love to see how he goes in there

Only our sole remaining forward target, given Hurley's back & Ryder's on ice.

But hey, a Hille/Monfries "tall" forward pairing has worked so well in the past...

It was a suggestion as an experiment for this week. You don't think it will be worth knowing if he could play there? As I said we have nothing to lose
this week. I think he has a number of attributes that would be suitable for a midfielder, lets just see how he goes.
