Guys I honestly think pick 3 will be ours so it's a case of whether it is Kelly or Aish for mine at this stage. We know Melbourne are keen on Kelly though so who knows....

In a sadistic way I was hoping we lost last night, even when we hit the front, the only way forward is a top 3 pick, we just have to cop it and improve our list through this draft and free agency. BTW, get the ball into Tom Lees hands 8 times per game near the goals and he kicks 5. I was pleased to see Rooey starting to look for him last night, Lee is a keeper once he gets somewhere near 100 fit and gets some confidence.

Lee and White will be the forward line in the future with Markworth being that high half forward role and Saad being the small forward, (maybe Minchington also if he can get his body right)....

You know your footy Rahul, I rate you highly mate! I would love to know your thoughts on our second pick, first pick in this draft is a no brainer, I'm hoping for Freeman who I think will slide to around pick 20, thoughts?
Thanks mate, personally I think a slider in the form of Dunstan or Dumont would be great. Kennedy-Harris' risk is worth his reward, but I don't want to take that risk. Honeychurch/Sweet Jesus' attack on the ball is admirable and as a Vic Metro MVP I'd say he is a relatively safe selection for 21/22.

Haha you got your wish, and clearly not tanking either.

Gotta admit it looks like I was wrong about Lee Brian, good shout.

Who goes to us if GWS and Melbourne take Aish and Kelly respectively?

Boyd? 199cm KPFs don't grow on trees...
Scharenburg? Maybe we can mould him into a 190cm 90kg mid...
Billings? Class is class. A goal-kicking HF/mid is something we've lacked for years...

Unlikely but it would have to be Boyd...

Beautifully said. I was sitting in stands last night and you could tell that his team mates have confidence in Tom Lee. He's still really struggling with his fitness but he will be a dangerous goal kicking option for us. Lee, Wright and Saunders (who was very good last night) for pick 12 is looking like a very good trade for us for the future.

Scharenburg going at 1 is not completely out of the equation. In that scenario, surely it is Tom Boyd. As many posters have mentioned, Boyd + White + Lee is the stuff of premiers. On Billings, he is a star in his own right but I see him more as a pick 4-6. As you mentioned, 199cm key forwards are rare.

FWIW, I respectfully disagree with Rahul. He is enthusiastic in his praise of Aish, but Josh Kelly runs rings around him, especially in the age of run and spread, he has a freakish tank already without AFL pre seasons behind him. In fact Jack Billings is also a freakshow who has not been 100% fit this year, a goal kicking mid who dominates one on one whoever he is matched up on.
Aish could be the next Aaron Fiora with his small build, an outside player who receives and runs, so all I can suggest is not being hung up on James Aish.

Re Lachie Whitfield v James Aish, again I respectfully disagree, LW in a good team would be a super player already.
Well said :thumbsu:

for
Pick 1 and GWS 2nd

Then

Our 2nd
for
A 3rd rounder and M.Brown from GEELONG.

Let's draft Shepherd. Much better back/ruck than Rhys and has some agro about him which will be needed in the lean years.

My 1st round order (will change throughout the year):
  1. Boyd
  2. Aish
  3. Scharenburg
  4. Kelly
  5. Billings
  6. Sheed
  7. MacDonald
  8. Crouch
  9. Lennon
  10. Kolodjashnij
  11. Gardiner
  12. Dumont
  13. Dunstan
  14. Taylor
  15. Freeman
  16. Salem
  17. Bontempelli
  18. Hartung
  19. Acres

Nice draft order Rahul it seems the top 5 pick it self. I think after that it gets very even through pick 6 to our second pick. There's definitely a chance that a few of those guys just outside the top 10 slide to our second rounder.

Bomtempelli is an interesting prospect. I didn't have him in my first round but I suspect if his recent output continues he could find himself as high as pick 6. A club would need to be patient with him though because he's very raw and will take time to find his feet at senior level IMO.

I agree with you regarding Aish vs Whitfield as well. Until Boyd really came to notice Aish has been seen as the clear number 1 pick since he was 16. I'd love for him to slide to our pick.

I'm starting to think Billings ahead of Kelly but that's not how I see the thoughts of recruiters. Kelly definitely in that 2-4 range as far as recruiters go IMO.

So Jack Riewoldt is an unsigned free agent. We have a small fortune in our cap...

Nick, get on the phone!
I would like a key forward on our list, but Jack Riewoldt's attitude is an issue. I do not want him at the club, he does not work hard enough when things don't go his way.

This is what really stands out with Billings and the reason why I'm pushing his name up the draft order. He's a guy who can really dominate 1 v 1, and this is without a size advantage at junior level and I'm confident this translates to senior football. This is what really stands out with Billings in the forward half, and I don't see why he can't also dominate 1 v 1 inside packs.

He's an incredibly good mark and consistently dominates in the air against players 5-10cm taller than him, plus he's good below his knees. It matters little whether he becomes a midfielder because he's so damaging in the forward half at finding targets or kicking goals himself that that's where you ideally want him. Skills are elite and top few in the draft as well.

If we picked him there's a chance we're not addressing the need for a clearance midfielder but we certainly are addressing the just as important need for an creative outside-midfielder who plays forward of centre and hits the scoreboard.

How do you see Dallas Willsmore?

I ask this more from a personal point of view (local lad), not necessarily from a Saints POV.

Good mark and a solid kick, but I don't see him making a huge impact unless he can grow a bit and he needs a few big pre-seasons on the weights.

Good post, I have a little man love for Billy Hartung at this pick, a Dion Prestia type who if he was 185cm would be talked about as a top tenner. Thoughts? I know he is in your top 20, but there is always a surprise in te tip 20 so he could slide.

I would hopeto have Lewis Taylor available over Hartung. Taylor's foot skills would rival anyone in this year's crop and if he was 10cm taller he would be in top 5 contention in my opinion.

On Hartung, his work with the Stingrays has been top notch. He will probably run a 16.5 in the beep test at the end of the year, so with the interchange caps this could really help him. Apart from his kicking, I love Hartung's willingness to run both ways. There's always a slider in the draft and I'm certain that at least 2 players in my 20 will be available at our pick.
