Maybe Watters for whatever reason thinks he can turn him into a defender

Maybe. But why would you try to do that rather than get someone like Bruce/Delaney instead? It would be unlikely for mine. Jesse White has shown enough later in the season to drive his price up and therefore we would have to give up more. Just can't see it but happy to be proven wrong...

Would also depend on whom they are wanting to trade from our side. If Stanley goes, then White is an option long term.

Stanley and White are so similar, though. White may be a little better than Stanley (probably from holding a consistent role rather than being shuffled through every position on the ground), but we'd have to give away a pick to get him to the club. I'd rather hold on to Stanley, and get another kid in the draft.

Pints taken.

My view is that Lee is currently a lock for FF. However, we still need to find a replacement for Roo. So the problem is how to blood a replacement whilst Roo is playing... unless they have a different role in mind for Roo next year. This allows a natural succession IMO. Just a theory.

We cannot assume that all the current kids will be there next year, nor can we assume that all positions are fixed. There will be a lot of variables in place. Ben might go and Rhys might be earmarked for 2nd ruck with Hickey. Spencer is still a gamble and a few years away.

I think we all pretty much got it wrong last year lol.

We're not going to have any draft picks left come draft day. :/
They may not just be interested in draft picks.

Interesting comment on AFL360 tonight talking about the Dockers midfield all being around the 6'3' mark and what impact that has on games and the opposition. Normally clubs look at what the top clubs are doing right and imitate/copy.

So of the quality mids available in the draft who are around that 6'2 range. Marcus Bontempelli is one that springs to mind. Anyone else? Rahul any others?

Also if we look at our midfield, apart from Seb Ross, our players are all around the 183cm mark aren't they?

Does this change who we draft in the midfield?
This draft isn't ideal for those taller types. The 'big' mids are all 185cm, Cripps is the real big one that comes to mind. He is a great ball winner and a late developer. I would like to see him play some WAFL seniors. Bontempelli is not what we should look for if we want to mirror the Freo midfield, his inside work and defensive output are lacking. His failure to step up in finals was also concerning.

On this Michie talk, I have heard some things that are very interesting, for lack of a better term. All I will say for now is one young Freo mid who lives in Victoria is not happy at Freo. One such player may or may not be involved here. I'll let you guys put this together.

Article on the Herald Sun Bellchambers and Mumford closer to re-signing with Essendon and Sydney, Hawks into Longer Giants aren't, mentioned Warnock as a target for GWS maybe McEvoy could be a target for the right price? I'd only trade if we got Pick 1 or Patton in the deal nothing else personally.

I just don't think so. I remember watching him play back once; he had less idea than our boy Rhys.

Maybe we see him as that Aaron Edwards/Stewart Crameri big-bodied 3rd tall forward or marking target that can roam around the half forward line and up into the wings to allow Lee and Riewoldt to stay closer to goal? Or alternatively allow Roo to roam like he does without compromising our structure at half forward and allowing the backs to gang up on Lee?

Also, maybe we see Lee ideally as that Jack Gunston-type not-quite-full-forward, and are looking at a forward line of Roo (CHF), White (FF) and Lee (FP)...

To be fair to him, 196cm 102kg blokes simply don't tend to come with his serious athletic gifts. Equally, other posters are right; he's played at best half a season of good football, and a lot of dross, so if we ARE considering this, the price had better be right.

Either way, I agree with everyone else; it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me considering where our deficiencies are.

Given the fact we went for TDL at pick 40~ish last year, who knows what our recruiters will do. We were scratching our heads at that decision too

Just because your club shows interest in a player doesn't mean they seriously want them. I remember when the pies were rebuilding, Eddie was having coffees with every player out of contract.

We should be into any player at a minimum. Worst case scenario we drive up their price and restrict what clubs can do when there's actually something decent that we are after!!!!
