Delaney for our 4th/5th rounder

Pick 41 to GWS for Bruce (on traded for GWS to get everit): someone else posted this but it's a beauty

Then we need longer to nominate us. Pick 25 for longer, maybe a straight swap for Armo, or pick 25 and Armo for longer

I like the first 2 and would do 25 for Longer in a heartbeat (if only just to trade him next year) but I don't think I'd do Armo for Longer. As SaintLex said Armo will be super important to our midfield over the next few years for protecting the kids as they mature and also helping us stay somewhat competitive. I'd want massive overs for Armo and while him and Longer may be worth about the same I'm just not sure it would be worth it.

Would 25 + Gilbert get us Longer if they wont take 25 by itself?

Had a laugh when I read this on the Age website:

"St Kilda's philosophy is comparable to Logan's Run - the dystopian 1970s sci-fi movie in which everyone is incinerated once they turn 30".

I think basically he came up with his "Logan's Run" line (which he thought was hilarious) and wrote an article around it.
Dal is 29. MacEvoy is 24. Fisher has not been, (and Niall says will not be) traded. We categorically stated that Joey and Roo will not be traded. We kept 33 Hayes on the list and are looking to bring in 32yo Jolley.
How bout you focus more on facts Jake instead of trying to be clever.

First deal isn't bad, although asking for 43 is probably a bit much. Second deal is pointless by us. Trade out our one of our few players in the right age who is proven for a completely speculative pick at 21 basically.
Yeah, asking for pick 43 as well is probably me just overrating Gwilt.

I feel that Armo has plateaued the last couple of years and may have reached his peak. Never have rated him as highly as most others seem to, (thats not to say I don't cheer for him whenever he represents the mighty Saints). I understand he is in the age bracket that we are lacking but he is one of the few players we have with any real trade value.
Maybe we should ask for more in the trade. Hows about the Giants 2014 compo pick?

The club have stated no more of our players will be on the trade table. So I'd say we would be trying to package our picks to gain a better position in the draft. Not sure how that's going to work as we want 3 possibly 4 picks inside 20.

Trade 1: I reckon we may as well just trade Gilbert for pick 20 and leave 25 for us and let them keep 43 since it is pretty useless to both sides. Gilbert is more of a loss for us but it leaves us 25 to trade for something else.

Trade 2: I think that is pretty big unders for Armo. Alone I would guess he is worth between pick 11-15. GWS has only been asking for a pick between 20-25 for Bruce so no way is 20+21 worth Armo alone let alone including Fish. We'd almost be better of trying to get pick 2 from them but I doubt they will trade it for anything we can give them.
Thought about putting Gilberts name in there. He would have more trade value, but he has more flexibility than Gwilt and can push up to a wing or even spend time in the centre. The young blokes should be pushing the likes of Gwilt out of the side by the end of the season so we might as well get something for him now. Isn't he also a free agent next year?

On reflection Trade 2 is unders for Armo. But similarly to Gwilt I'd expect him to be getting pushed for his place in the 22 if we really want to go full steam ahead with the youth policy. I don't think his trade value will ever get higher than it is now. (though would love to be proven wrong).

People get silly. Every first round pick is clearly better than every existing player.
I remember the hype over Tom Scully. Right now I'd rather have David Armitage.

All the spud first round picks , Tambling etc.... they can and will happen again. Armo is a player in the hand , he's worth 2 in the draft.

An important cog in the wheel is Armo, but there's little upside left..
Would be an asset to GC's midfield, but we lose another mid & inside mid that we're short of..
But with Curren, Ross, Wright & Markworth stepping up, i'd look at trading him & pick 3..
I'd target a younger mid (ie Swallow) & pick 5 allowing us the chance for another potential star to draft....
Keeping in mind we're in a re-build & "elite" players are what we're seeking....

StFly You should write a novel if you haven't already.
The following is not a paid presentation, all likeness' to events, people and poodle dragons are purely coincidental. The next parts are totally 100% factual irregardless of what anyone else says.

It was a time where shit flowed, almost like some ball of mass was revolving around an axis where half of it was bathed in darkness but we all know there's edges and there's some omnipotent fop flipping pages on a book instead...
But nah, free agency has undergone a bit of change and the AFL are still looking at tweaking the compensation component, so confusion is expected until it settles to something the majority are happy with.
And IMO, I'm still banking on a 24 + Siposs to crash anywhere from 11 to 17 (initially I thought maybe for Bris pick (6? 7?) since they tend to like booming kickers who play flanks, but that's a bit fanciful) not that I think he's no good, or anything but that if we're trying to rebuild we'd probably consider it as at least an "even" scenario, and Dunny will be a "best case" scenario for similar current positions.

I think we could trade Gilbert. He's probably the highest currency at the moment. We'd make do with Gwilt ( who is generally underrated ) , Fisher , Roberton ( who may be ultimately as good or better than Gilbert ) Dempster, Simpkin etc.

St Kilda is set to secure Longer after he told the Lions he wanted to be traded to the Saints.

The Saints are expected to offer their Dal Santo compensation pick (No. 25).

St Kilda will in coming days secure Delaney for pick 77.

And while GWS wants Fisher and a draft pick for Bruce (but the Saints) aren’t offering Fisher and will secure Bruce in the pre-season draft if GWS does not accept pick 41.

Pelchen “It is simplistic to say we are trading players (who are experienced). We understand the need to restore some balance to our player list both in terms of age and experience. The changes currently being made are done with consideration to a deliberate strategic plan.’ Our recruiting staff have identified the top 20 as equal to other years. And while all drafts vary to some degree, we have recognised that ours is a list under transition, there the draft represents a great opportunity for us.”

The Saints rate Longer’s ability to play forward — an opportunity denied him in Brisbane — and say playing Longer and Hickey as dual ruckmen would be an exciting prospect.

St Kilda has not ruled out recruiting Jolly even if they acquire Longer, but clearly he would be more of an insurance player.
