I don't mind Colyer, I remember watching him in the 18s and thinking he would be a great pickup. Hasn't really come on though. Couldn't do worse than some of the players on our list but I wouldn't want to pay much for him. He's from the same draft year as Trenners so he's probably only one quiet year away from getting delisted - should be able to get a deal done with a trash pick, ideally.

Not sold on Myers - he's tall but I wouldn't call him a big body. He might want to play in the midfield but that doesn't mean he's particularly good there.

I'd take Zak Jones over either of them and cross the fingers that he'll take after his big brother.

Fair enough about Myers - he is a big body if played in the midfield though @ 92 kegs.

More than I thought. I'm not against the move as I don't mind him as a player, but I can't see him having any more impact than a Matt Jones. My memory of him last year was being in that large group of meh midfielders for Essendon who dance in the chorus behind Watson, Stanton, Heppell and so on. I'd rather hang on to pick #20 or whatever we have and pick up Jones or a slider.

Apparently Viv Michie is as good as done - Roos and Lyon have a good relationship (and have traded well in the past) so I imagine a 3rd rounder would be about right.
There isn´t a single informed Freo supporter happy to see Viv go, however we all understand that he is a ready to go AFL footballer who has had no opportunity given he competes with Fyfe, Mundy and Barlow.

Keep in mind he averaged 26 poss per game and 8 clearances a game and won Peel´s B&F after having no pre-season. He could barely run out games in the first half of the year but worked his arse off and pushed himself really hard.

Very good skills and decision making and speed. His tank will be fine after a pre-season and it was the main reason or only reason us fans could think of as to why he didn´t crack more games.

The ironic thing is that there is a very real chance that he will end up better than Sylvia! Many think he is a better version of Barlow (i.e. better skills).

3rd rounder is an absolute steal.

Gotta remember when all is said and done with FA compos, that pick 20 will be about pick 24/25 come draft time.

But yeah Myers is good without hitting a particular need.

Thanks for that mate.

I reckon the Dockers just realize you've got to give the kid a chance at a long AFL career, while I'm sure the club rates him it's probably the best thing for Michie.

Just Lyon selling off the future for the present. St Kilda have to completely rebuild their list due to the lack of development in the kids while he was there. Wouldn't say it's ironic though - any talented player who works hard will end up better than Sylvia.

Fair enough. I know very little about the current draft crop but now that we've got (presumably) competent people in place, I'd hope we can start making our picks count. Other posters have thrown a few names around who they think would still be available in the early twenties (Dunstan, Sheed, Z.Jones etc?) who sound worth snagging.

Re: the Essendon doping lark, are players free to break contract and leave or does a trade still have to be arranged if they want to go? Or is that all a load of bollocks and they're all still contracted?

Well, the AFLPA made that "get out" application to the AFL Commission for Dons players to have eligibility as delisted free agents but I haven't heard/read anything about it since. I suspect they won't do it, it could potentially cripple the club and we're practically out of time anyway.

Would be a great get as a 22 yr old pushing best 22 in a premiership team.

I'd happily cough up the Sylvia compo or something similar to get him. Obviously our Sylvia compo could get amortised if we bring in FAs.

Yeah, like the idea of Savage - his footy has suffered since the sub rule has come in, he's had his fair share of games on starting on the pine.

Both of them for our 2nd round pick is much closer to the mark...
That's what I thought, my Essendon mate (you know him TPM haha) laughed that off though. He's not a fan of giving up Myers. Would need Myers to want a trade before Essendon would even think about it I reckon.

What a crock. Do you just read main board or bay 13 threads and quote them verbatim?

So you would of dropped Barlow to give Michie a go?

Michie is also behind Lachie Neale (averaged 26 possessions in the last 7 games in the AFL) as an inside mid.

Lyon has nothing to do with list management at St Kilda or Freo. Lloyd and Bond make all the decisions. St Kilda had a lot of picks during Lyon´s years and stuffed them all up - Lyon had nothing to do with that.

As for the lack of development: the entire squad developed out of sight in the last two years. Kids got good game time, even guys like Taberner got elevated off the rookie list and got game time, just not Mitchie as he was competing with Barlow, Mundy, Fyfe, Neale.

Nope. Sounds like you do though.

Got your goat up over a throwaway comment? I wouldn't have dropped Barlow but I probably would have dropped Fyfe for Michie and then traded him to us for a third round pick.

For sure - listened to Myers' manager this morning, seemed to be considering his options pretty seriously.

If I was Essendon I wouldn't give up Myers and Colyer for #19-22, but it's closer to a fair deal then both of them for #2!!!! :p
