Can anyone tell me when the free agency compensation picks are assigned? It seems like quite a bit revolves around them but I have heard nothing about when they'll be made official.

So quite possibly media sharing rubbish though :)
I was just shocked that a young player's two options were the grand finalists.... Or us :)
Must be purely about midfield time. That and a raise.

Considering the way he played in the WAFL and considering how good and settled Freo's inside mids are (Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe + taggers/role players) - I think Roos as a coach is really attractive to young guys in Michie's situation.

Michie wouldn't be playing more then 5-10 games for the next 2-3 years at Freo you'd think, he won't be able to improve enough as a player to break in to that side by playing WAFL footy and limited AFL footy.

I really hope one of Dunstan, Dumont, Crouch or Sheed slides to us at 20. The only way it would happen is if clubs like Fremantle reached for KPPs such as Darcy Hourigan, etc, instead of the midfield packed top 20 when it's best available.

Unfortunately, given the Franklin/Thomas FA compo pick will likely be first round, our second pick will stretch to 22 making it even less likely.

All these picks and numbers are doing my head in . The order seems to change every few hours. Listening to itchy and scratchy ( Wallace and Barrett ) talking i get the feeling we wont even get a compo pick at all . If ever an organization was the leader in turning a simple thing like the draft into a mess , i really don't think any one could top the AFL .

Of course we will get a compo pick, your problem is you are listening to Barrett and Wallace.

Stop.

They have been factually incorrect when talking about sylvia. Wallace, the other day claimed two things; that Sylvia had been dropped to Casey throughout the year, and that he finished low in our B+F (finished fifth). Neither correct.

Which is not always a good thing and he did not say he will, he said clubs MAY start trading.
seemed to be a hint, clubs need to start reminding players that they are in fact number one in this, we follow the clubs not the players

It was a suggestion, semi smart arse to be honest.

But think about it, Shiel is 20, we come at him with a 9 year deal (and he's a legitimate gun, don't worry about that) and there's his AFL life guaranteed.
Not a bad idea, but it also might limit our ability to sign other players. We'd have to pay him heaps to agree to this. And if he gets injured...

We wouldn't have to pay him that much - a lot more then he's worth currently, but he'd be on maybe 250-300k at GWS.

We offer him 650k for 9 years, front loading that while we have the cap space - in his prime at mid and back end he'll be on 450k.

Hardly crippling - we've lost Sylvia and Davey on big money now, and STILL had room in our cap for a big signing.

I really hope we don't go down the path of offering stupid deals like that , even if he is worth it. I am amazed the league has ok'ed the buddy deal tbh .
