The thing with this is, if it's going to cost us a 2nd rounder, where are we going to find one? Then once that hurdle is done, if it's early 2nd do you trade it for him, or take a punt in the draft?
Makes little difference. As long as Polec is happy with the contract we offer him then Brisbane have no choice but to work something out with us or potentially lose him in either draft.
Polec has the only say in where he is traded.
its unlikely he would have a price so big on his head that 6 or 7 other teams would bypass him in the PSD before us. possible, but i dont want to test it out.

Would other teams be willing to use a pick on Polec and cut our lunch though??? everyone has already seen his pathetic work rate and attitude at brisbane in one big act to get out of brisbane and he has stated that we wants to return home to SA. Given his run with injuries and average form, im not too sure why other teams would want to try to steal our man purely based on the whole "pick 5" potential

Most clubs don't have PSD picks so we wouldn't have many in front of us and as long as Polec is happy with us and only wants to play for us, no one else will recruit him. Tippett, Ball and B Jacobs are prime examples of this.
No club will recruit someone who won't do interviews or medicals and given Polec's injury history a medical would be priority.

Regardless of who ends up getting Polec, there is exactly a 50% chance that the other team will end up thinking they dodged a bullet, adn exactly 50% chance that he's a great coup.
So I really couldn't care less whether or not we get him.
Polec is a tough one. The only way we have a chance is to make a strong offer in terms of $ and time, which might convince him to choose us. We then need him to sit tight while the inevitable trade fight begins. The thing about all that is do we want to pay big $ to a player with 0 exposed form and a known injury risk.
We are not going to offer him the kind of $ that will give him enough comfort to go the PSD route.
We have to be very careful how we spend and picks we do manage to acquire and I'm just feeling really uncertain as to how this kid might turn out.
May not be our choice in the end - but I'm thinking we pass

Just take him in the PSD. That's where we can actually use some leverage. If we ended up getting Betts through FA and Polec through the PSD that would be an amazing result given out predicament.
If he has indicated a move home, no other club will take him in front of us! It just doesn't happen, especially if he has already agreed to terms etc

The way I see is we've got no choice but to pay overs. If its a matter of re-signing some of our average players who we know will not make it or taking a punt on the type of player we need, I'm for taking the punt
