I don't have a problem with us chasing him. I just don't see why he's a "must get" player. He's been in the system for 3 years now, achieving precisely zero in that time. I know that injuries have taken their toll - but that only serves to decrease his value further, as he now has a reputation for being injury prone. After 3 years he's still trading on the "potential" that he showed before being drafted.

There is absolutely nothing there that spells "must get". Would I be happy if Adelaide got him on the cheap (in terms of draft picks)? Absolutely. Should we be throwing the kitchen sink at Brisbane in order to trade for him? Absolutely not.
Of course he's not a "must get" - but this is how I look at it.

In a normal year we need to weigh up our options. We have to bring in X players, and we have various free agency options, trade possibilities, and draft picks to fill those spots.

This year our draft picks are worth considerably less than normal, so the value of free agency and trading to us is comparatively higher. At the same time, we have extra cash bouncing around, which can be very useful in getting free agency/trade deals over the line.

At a time where, comparatively, cash is less valuable to us than normal, and free agency/trading is more valuable to us than normal, we need to look for the best available options in both free agency and trading. Polec is no star, but he's a player. If he's the best available target, I'm more than happy for us to pay him more than he's worth to get it over the line.

I'll say this.

Shutts has made two tweets about players walking out on their clubs in Polec & Smack. Both are Elite Sports Properties management players. I'll be trusting the validity of his calls at the moment as it is obvious where the info is coming from.

I agree Stabby. Normally he wouldn't be a must get but with our sanctions this year I think he almost does become a "must get". To add a player of his potential would help considerably in our situation. He is still only 20. We have been able to pick up other former first rounders recently and have seen obvious improvement in their games. LJ and Lynch have been good trades for us. I reckon Polec could be too.

Have you seen the imediate impact he made this year playing as a sub? Buckley didnt like playing him for whatever reason.
We need players with class and skillfull enough to make disposals count. Didak can do this, day in day out to this very day .
Yeah he has slowed, but his skill makes up for that well enough to sit a season or two in a forward pocket, Compared to at least 15 of the possible alternative players on our list. He would be as good if not better than at least 50% of the 1-3 year players.
Didak is playing sub because he has been nursed through the season and his body just can't run out a full game

Recruiting Didak would be one of the biggest recruitment blunders of all time and for this reason it just won't happen

No it wouldn't be because he'd cost us sweet FA. Doesn't mean I think we should draft him, but it would be a long way off being one of the "biggest recruiting blunders of all time".

We might be cashed up, but there's no need to piss it into the wind.

That ageing Didak missed a large slice of the season because his body kept breaking down. If there's any of those Collingwood players that have been delisted that we might give a 1 year contract to it's Jolly as a back-up for Jacobs - but he's breaking down regularly too.
Personally, I think Jolly is worth a 1 year deal. This would hopefully be enough to keep him at the club to take over the reigns from Clarke.

Thanks for the heads up.

Looking at Esp's players they don't seem to mind moving them on to new clubs. Goddard, Phil Davis, Chad Cornes, Campbell Brown and our own Scott Thompson are all examples. Belchambers and Didak are represented by them as well. At least we know they are loyal to their player's needs, not their clubs and they are able to influence them to move. Best part is they don't represent Tippett!

I recon we will get Polec. What is he worth? currently port would be getting pick 15-19 in the first round. Polec is currently not worth a pick that high, their second pick will be around the 35-40 mark. We should be able to muster up a better pick than their second pick by trading a combo of Smack, Mackay, Henderson. The question is what is a fair trade for Brisbane or do we want to grab him in the PSD? provided he nominates an Adelaide club we can get in before Port

I fear I'm a bit slow on this one. Where is the info coming from?

Scott Thompson was in the same situation. Injury riddled first few years, high draft pick. Tom Lynch we gave up a second rounder for after he struggled to make the Saints side. Both great trades. Polec would be a similar move I would give up a second rounder he has talent to burn. Could payoff bigtime.
We shouldn't read too much into Lynch being unable to break into the Saints side. Lyin' wasn't concerned with blooding new players. He wanted to win flags with the old brigade. He left St. Kilda's list in a mess as a result.

O.K so here is a more productive question.

What will it cost us to pick up Didak for 1-2 years?
Going on current team performance, how will it hinder our success?
Where is the big sacrifice?
It will cost us next year roughly what it cost us this year to piss-fart around with Porplyzia/Callinan in the side...it gets us nowhere and sacrifices the development of a player who can actually develop and improve and be here for the long term.

I realised the guy who broke players leaving before the AFL/their clubs had to get the info from somewhere. So I searched who managed Smack & Polec and it is the same company. Shutts even said it was from management so I'll bank on both the Polec & Smack info from him being pretty spot on, or at least what the management want everyone to hear.
