A lot of emotional nonsense in this thread about everyone who has ever played for AFC and visited an orphanage being untouchable. We only have two untouchables, one is out with an ACL and one wears Roo's old number.

We have zero elite talent. We're a team of battlers. Tex and Danger are our only players on the cusp of elite status. Everyone else can be traded if the price is right. If it takes a Sloane or a Talia to get a Harry Taylor, so be it. We are not a girl guide troop.

I understand what you're saying and in principle agree with it.

But Harry Taylor is not going to push us over the edge to become a premiership side, especially if we are giving away the same sort of player in Talia. So any talk of us trading Sloan or Talia is just wrong.

We don't need a 26 year old Harry Taylor because Rutten still has 2 or 3 good years left.

The objective in trading and free agency is always to get better, so if we could trade (for example) a Sloan for a 50 goal key forward who will complement Tex Walker, that's a trade we should look at. But giving one key defender away for another isn't making us better. It's just equalling things out.

Dumbest post i have seen for at least 12 months

Trade 21-22 year olds for a 28 - 29 year old ......yeah real smart ...yeah Taylor is elite and Sloane not

Harry T was just an example. You need elite talent to win flags. Not necessarily Harry T, but elite talent. By next year hopefully Danger will have achieved the consistency that propels him into elite ranks. Crying shame that Tex is out all year, otherwise he would have probably broken through to that absolute top shelf as well. But we need more.

We have a bunch of promising kids who are going to develope nicely in 2-3 years, but GWS and GCS will be at the peak of their powers then. Flag unlikely. After that we'll be screwed for 3 years or so cos our draft picks got Trigged. Flag highly friggin unlikely.

Our window is realistically 2014-15. We need to get elite talent in by then. You cannot win flags with a team of battlers. You need Jarmans, McLeods, Roos. Elite talent. Which we have none of and which we need to aggressively seek out and bring in to the club. Anyone who is unlikely to achieve elite status by that flag window can be traded if its to bring elite talent in (so, for mine, anyone bar Tex and Danger).

anyone seeing Gorringes performance against Geelong would be saying he's a must have :thumbsu:

Just of interest what are we trading for him - magic beans? To get Gorringe we would have to trade away elite talent which we would be crazy to do. Thanks to Trigg/Reid (we should preface every sentence with this) we have absolutely zero bargaining power this year without a 1st and 2nd round draft pick. Our only chance of bringing in elite talent is via free agency, and from what I gather, most have either resigned or are unattainable.

Lets take a breath, stop torturing ourselves and concentrate on future prospects such as operation get Ryan Griffen.

Unfortunately that train has gone.
But you are right frustrates me to hear Sando say going to trade hard when we have no bargaining power at all thanks to Trigg & Co plus light on tradeable players we can afford to lose.
A must is to get at least one free agent .
Think we could get Gooringe fairly easy as had to wait till 3 ruckman went down before getting chance.

Might be a must have but he will be a hard have
Not that hard. When Dixon comes back it would be 50/50 who makes way out of him and Nicholls. And add Zac Smith next season...

They have an embarrassment of riches and we should have a big crack at Gorringe. Him + Sauce is a perfect duo.

What sort of reduction in the Suns salary cap is applied this year?

We could get him fairy cheaply I'd the Suns need to slash some contracts to get under the cap.

Ala Steven king to St kilda for pick 100 from Geelong.

Gorridge, Lycet, Frawley, Watts and Polec would all be gettable and on my shopping list
Andy Otten and or Ricky Henderson to Melbourne for Jack Watts and a pick around 40 odd.
Brody Martin to Brisbane for Jarrod Polec
Pick 60 to Gold Coast for Gorridge
SMACK in a 4th trade option but not sure who???

Upgrade Laird, Hartigan

By shopping list I didn't mean that we can get them all however getting 1-2 of the players listed would be a good result

Personally I think Smack and Otto traded back to a Melb based club is realistic, I also think Otto would appeal to both GC and Lions as both clubs need a key defender

If Jeansch and Martin are serious about their flight EY should look for a trade to a bottom 8 club to launch their careers

for what it's worth

Smack & Riley for either Frawley or Watts, Otten for Polec and use either or Martin to target Currie who only signed a one year contract with North

I Don't think Hendo will be traded he is highly rated at the club

SR don;t mind your thinking .......but IMO Vince looks to be our biggest hand in this game

Essendon need midfielders .....Vince for Gumbleton and Goodwin to mentor Vince yet again

Smack & player/pick used in a trade for Watts is possible ....not sure enough to get Frawley who i think will prefer to stay in Melbourne

No to Currie ......yes to Gorringe as we need a forward /ruck ...not simply a ruckman who i think iis Currie's only role

Currie is another who is out of contract
One position player ....Gorringe offers more flexibility

We've had plenty of looks at Currie and ignored ......Osbourne for me is better to be developed long-term

Still what do we do with small forward (Porplyzia for Betts?) ......and pace in the midfild (is Polec fast) or will that be a recruiting target?

On second thoughts, maybe you're right. Would a team, who is in their premiership window, give up a late 1st rounder for Vince? Which you then on trade to GC for Gorringe.

No way would GC accept a 3rd or 4th rounder for Gorringe but maybe a 3-wayer for Vince and player/pick may get the deal done. Looking at the below list of our players who would or maybe net us a 1st rounder, I think Vince could be possibly be the only one we would be willing to trade:

Wallker, Danger, Sloane, Smith, Talia, Jacobs, Crouch, possibly Vince/Douglas...

Very very very wishful thinking.

A top 10 KPP of 3 years ago now worth pick 60.
A top 5 midfielder of 3 years ago now worth a fringe 25er at the Crows.
