Good grief... Mackay gets shopped around, while contracted, against his will and subsequently rethinks his position. This is somehow symptomatic of a broader problem within the club. What a load of rubbish.

Loyalty is a two way street. Mackay showed his loyalty last year when re-signing with Adelaide after getting a much better offer from Melbourne. How is his loyalty rewarded? By being shopped around just 12 months later.

When the club shows itself to be disloyal then the players lose confidence and start questioning their own position & desire to be where they are not valued. This is exactly what went wrong with Crazy Vossy.

I don't blame Mackay one bit. What the AFC have to worry about is how many (and which) players they have got offside with their trade week antics this year.

Gets shopped around when he's contracted? So what? When players are under contract is the only time you have power to shop them. We can't do it when he's uncontracted.

He refused to go to Brisbane and ruined that trade and the chance the club had to improve. And I'm meant to feel sympathy for him? Ridiculous.

Bollocks. Vince didnt leave because he was treated well. LJ didnt re-tweet what he did cos he is happy.
Vader said exactly what I feel about it. McDermott on AA said the same thing. Shopping around the players like they have (Vince, Wright, Lyons, Mckay) does have an effect on the playing group.
We dont need this at our club at the moment.
And unlike you I expect my club to excel. I wont.be satisfied with finishing 4-10 every friggen year.

LJ favorited a mate's tweet who said he should get a longer contract. It's is completely ridiculous to suggest it's any more than a joke.

You don't want the best for this club - you undermine it at every turn. You're the worst kind of "supporter".

@Adelaide_FC Re TV story tonight: David Mackay was not shopped around by the Crows. Brisbane asked about him, David said he wasn't interested.
That doesn't mean he's not upset by it. If Brisbane asked about Dangerfield it's not like we would have asked him if he was interested. Asking if he wants to go is akin to saying we're keen to trade you if you are. It's not really giving the message of value.

I'm not saying it was right one way or another, I'm just saying the tweet above is like saying we didn't king hit someone, we punched them in the face front on. Why bother even tweeting it.

Trading is part of footy, but name another year where players have been shopped to compensate for what the club has lost due to cheating? At the same time those responsible remain at the club.

It has to affect the playing group. Imagine your work has to get rid of your mates because your boss was found guilty of a wrongdoing but he still kept his job. Would you be pissed and open to leaving if other opportunities arose?
What is the other option? Should we not have done any trading this year.

If we don't secure any more players or extra picks in the last week of trade period. I hope we try and exchange draft picks to move us up the draft order

Examples

Gws get pick 23 in exchange for pick 21

Hawthorn get pick 21 in exchange for pick 19
GWS get 23 in exchange for 1 (and maybe 2) :thumbsu:

I find all this angst about Mackay bizarre. So he got shopped around, it's the trade period, that's what happens. Every year. By every club. Generally players who have underperformed and would probably be better off elsewhere. Like Mackay.
Its not the fact he is getting shopped around that is the problem. Its the fact he has told the crows he isn't interested yet his name is still appearing. The other sticking point is that he took a pay cut last year so the crows could build a war chest to keep Tippett. He isn't happy because his loyalty is virtually been shoved up his arse by the club.

Its this sort of treatment of its players by the AFC that is highly dangerous and could result in mass walkouts come the end of next season. If the club wants to treat long term loyal players with disdain, some players could turn on the club. Its almost as if the club is trying to appease its fans for its own stupidity over the tippet punishment by trying to be seen to working this magic during trade period and forcing out loyal players. All I say to those fans who demand active trading and list refreshment every season be careful what you wish for.

The draft being good or bad is largely irrelevant. Garlett represents a massive, massive risk to whichever club decides to draft him. It's that risk assessment which will determine whether or not he gets drafted.

Unlike Thorp, who has (by all reports) turned his life around since being delisted, there are few if any indications that Garlett's situation has changed since this time last year.
Apart from finishing top ten in the Sandover...

What we have learnt from this period is that the media know little about what goes on. I agree that if he continues to be shopped around after refusing the first it looks bad, but how do we know this has actually happened. Or does he just not waant to go to Brisbane ?? Hes an underperformed senior player with currency so you test the water, if he says no you stop. The club wouldn't push him out the door, you dont reckon Bernie wanted to go aswell ??

Kristol, I'm not even sure that Cleric is a supporter, I'm all for people challenging the club however some on this board are negative with every post

That's irrelevant to how this might be affecting the playing group
Sorry I'm confused, we shouldn't have done any trading because of the potential effects on the playing group?

We all know why we are needing to trade, what was the right thing for the football department to do?

The football department are in a no win situation, I'm not criticising them. And you've summed it up well, "we all know why we are needing to trade". My issue is this need was created by management that still remain, surely that has to impact on the playing group.

The club really can't win can they?

Round 12: "glory be we've got so many spuds that aren't delivering. If we don't get active in the trade period and improve our list, we are a joke. Vince/Hendo/Mackay/VB/Petrenko/Reilly all on notice. We have to be RUTHLESS."

Trade Period: *shops Vince/Mackay around* "WTF are we doing? We're just pissing off our playing group. Man we suck".

GO YOU CROW BOYS
Do you believe the AFL is an even playing field and thus stuff doesn't happen behind close doors?

That's the political side of footy.

I'm sure they (and 16 other clubs) would do the same.
Yes I believe that.

I belive it is either worth us pushing them to a higher pick or it isn't. And we shoudl act accordingly.

I don't believe we should wait for Port Power to get the first showdown at AO and THEN decide we need to take such an action. What a bunch of grade 9 High School girls move that is.

Everyone is questioning what this trade period does to loyalty. Just ask Hawthorn what they think of loyalty now that free agency is in.

The players wanted more opportunity to move, hence free agency. Along with giving the players more flexibility it has given clubs greater motivation to move on players that they don't consider in their top 10. If you are a top 10 player you wouldn't even be considered by your club as a trade option, DMac and Vince clearly weren't this year and haven't been for some time. The players cant have it both ways IMHO...

I think it is pretty damn insulting towards Danger and Sloane that some on this thread think they would rather the club kept around their friends and acquaintances than get better and win.

Danger and Sloane are competitors. They would wish Mackay well, and look forward to an improved side.

Of course players like Vince/MacKay/Reilly want to stay, they have it absolutely made at the Crows. If they go to other teams they may actually have to perform to keep their spot in the side!

If MacKay really is pissed he can get traded this year or stew on it and walk next year..........or he can realise that he can put all thought of trading out of our minds by pulling his finger out and performing.

We do all know why... we finished 11th.

Even with a first round pick, I still think Bernie would've moved onto a bigger, more secure contract.
