Completely agree. That's partly what I meant by its going to be a hell of a ride.
The best case scenario is by the end of the year the veterans have been pushed out of the side by kids, the results almost don't matter.
Next year is more about years to come even if we can compete for the flag.

its a strange season to judge... i agree with your first to tenth prediction, anything could happen.

we definitely have a team capable of finishing top, and the club seem to think so if you look at the trades.

All sounds good but the worry for me is over 50% of this list has played less than 20 games and the majority of them less than 10,we won't want injury's to key players or any of that bullshit getting reported for crap behind the play.
We could finish anywhere from 4th to 10th.

I suspect that this ratio would apply to any club's whole list.
Although it doesn't actually apply to ours, by my count 25/46 have played 20 or more.

Wins/Losses: 15-7
Place: 4th - 6th

Like others have said, I think we could realistically finish anywhere from 1st to 12th.

I can see next season panning out in similar fashion to 2012- a slow start with some surprise victories/losses thrown in over the course of the year. Hopefully we are in better shape come the pointy end of next season than we were in 2012.

As I said their give us every chance, but I still think the main game is 2015/16.
We will be at our lowest then as all our premiership stars and Rivers and McIntosh will be gone. Think 2013 and 2014 will be good. 2015-16 will be bad. 2017-2018 we will start being a serious threat again as the first batch of the nexy wave will be mid 26 and Selwood and Hawkins will still be going.

We HAVE to win the early games this year & get over the line in the close ones because the draw we have been given will really set us up for the finals given the run we have with home games in the second half of the season.

Especially given we play GWS at Skoda, have the by then play Brisbane up there - sets us up for another good mid season QLD break which has done wonders the last few years.

If we go 7-4 before the bye and have minimal injuries we will be set up very well.
8-3 or 9-2 and we will have to drop the ball big time not to make the top 4.

We are not going to lose to Fremantle in Geelong nor Richmond. We should beat Sydney in Sydney too. We are a much better team then them. North Melbourne in round 2 I have serious doubts over and one of the Hawks game as well (surely it can't continue can it?) The others I agree with if I was a betting man.

Totally agree.
2015-16 and we will certainly be without Chappy, Corey, Enright, J Hunt, Pods, Rivers & McIntosh.
And then you have blokes like Bartel, Kelly, Johnson, Lonergan, Mackie & Stokes that will either be retired or well into their 30's.

Thats a lot of clout & premiership experience to loose from the team in a short timeframe.
We have a great mix of young & old at the moment, if we dont get close this year then 2014 will be the last serious challenge year until 2017 I think.

Far too much talent is due to leave the team after 2014 to remain a serious contender - unless the youngsters really come up & deliver something special.

I believe we will get better over the season. Hma, Rivers and Caddy need to work out our plays and style early in the season. Varcoe and Menzel will get better as they get more games under their belts and so will West, THunt, Bundy and Duncan get better with more experience.

Then we have Cowan, Guthrie, Smedts, Horlin-Smith, Kersten, McCarthy, Motlop, Simpson, Stringer and Vardy all likely to get some game time and improve.

Just been revisiting a few replays of the 2012 season and I can see real potential in Vardy, Guthrie and Smedts - who I reckon could be the next best 22 players like Bundy and Duncan have become.

So as the season goes on we will get better and better IMO.

So the key is to win early games and not have to make up for a poor start as we did this year. If we start well top 4 for sure IMO.

Just imagine that Hmac and Rivers play well - Caddy is a useful mid and Varcoe and Menzel by season's end are playing well ? What a terrific line up that would see.

If Vardy, Smedts and Guthrie also make ground we will have close to the best list in the league.

I think we will lose a game in Geelong next year, 36 wins from our last 37 there is obscenely good and a record like that simply cannot continue forever. If Freo don't beat us there then Sydney will IMO.

Richmond are going to be very keen to claim a big scalp early in the season and will continue improving, so I went out on a limb and put that down as a loss. Sydney away is a tough proposition too and I don't think we 'should' beat them.

North in Round 2 we should take care of if we want to set up our season with a good start, and Hawthorn will continue to be mentally fragile in big games next year.

Like this season, I think we'll win some games we're not expected to win, and lose others we're not expected to lose.

It's definitely action time. We will be throwing kitchen sink at it this year. It's a once in a generation occurrence to have established stars such as Chapman, Corey, Enright, SJ, Bartel, Kel still playing good footy with so much talent popping up behind them. Never ever under estimate the mental aspects of being a champion football team.

Bundy and Duncan will be revelations next year and Vardy, Menzel not too far behind. Personally though, am really looking forward to Cowan coming back, has slipped under the radar because of injury, but is a very very good footy player.

Gee Gaz I hope you are right and that Cowan is a good footy player. Just have not seen enough of him so I generally don't think of him becoming a best 22 player. But if he was to perform well in the twos - wow what a VFL side we would have under a good coach for 2013.

I just cannot see where Cowan fits in. I see Smedts, Guthrie and Caddy ahead of him - and they are all about the same size.

But hell I will take any GFC youngster coming good for us 2013.

I would put my house on the Cats making the 8 next season - if I had one ! Even with injuries just cannot see this list falling over.

I don't think so. I think next year is about winning it. We will be building for the future no doubt, but the way they drafted, they are going for it again.

Saw enough at VFL level to be impressed and his senior level work was very promising. Will have to fight to earn his spot, but in my opinion is on par with Caddy and GHS. Coaches certainly had big wraps in 2011, with a third pre season behind him and hopefully injury free, he will be cherry ripe to start pushing the seniors.

We will be trying to win next year no doubt but they won't hurt the future for short term gain (unless it IS a flag).
What I was saying was more they will continue to play kids, continue to give major roles to young guys and hope to slowly have them take over from the oldies.
Pretty much what they did in 2011, win the flag while blooding rookies.

I'm sticking with the clubs plan, this from Brian Cook.

The panel who chose the coach was made up of Brian Cook, Neil Balme and football operations manager Steve Hocking. The board advisers were new president Colin Carter and directors Gareth Andrews and Diana Taylor. Cook denied this week that Scott's winning edge was provided by his non-Geelong background.
''We didn't want a coach who didn't think we could make the grand final this year,'' said Cook. ''But we also wanted someone who could demonstrate he could lead the rebuilding of the list to make a big impression again by 2015-2016.
''Chris believed we could manage the senior players this season to have another go and he has also demonstrated the rebuilding in the way he's handled the younger players.''

12 months is a long time in footy.
They've changed their minds, they're in it balls and all next year.
