With the opening of DT not too far away, discussion will more than likely heat up.

Discuss potential ruck options in here... Whether it'd be a rookie, mid-pricer and/or premium. :thumbsu:

Rookie rucks = meh, this year. Longer is probably worth having as R3 in AFL Fantasy at 192K. But apart from that I assume everyone will have Currie on their bench hoping he gets some games this year.

Value Picks = Sandilands, obviously in both DT and AFL Fantasy, same with McIntosh if he stays fit.

Premiums = Naitanui, Leuenberger, Mumford, McEvoy, Lobbe, Kreuzer, Minson, Goldstein, Cox. It's a matter of preference really, if you choose to start with a premium ruck.

The Optimist in me (possibly also the tightarse) really likes the Sandi-Hmac combo. Hey, we've got 2 trades a week, worth the risk. And that money would look good elsewhere.

I've seen a few people mention Bellchambers' injury possibly opening the door for Fraser Thurlow in the opening rounds. Could be handy.

I see this comment a lot. Sure you have 2 trades a week but lets look at this further. So Sandi or Hmac stub their toe or get injured yawning, you have 2 trades, who exactly are you trading one of these guys to? You would want to hope they have increased in value at least a little or your gonna be stuck choosing a replacement at 300-350k best case scenario around 400k. You will most likely have to downgrade someone else or cull a rookie early, not ideal. Pick a premo ruck and save yourself some headaches.

Agreed, you'd be in a pickle of a silly of a Flanders if that happened. Risk/reward, I guess. Ideally they make a little before they get injured, making the future trade easier. But if I didn't pick Sandi at that price, and then watched him carve it up, I'd kick myself.

Agree. But we still have preseason and round 1 to make our decision. By round 2 ruck choices should be quite easy.

Don't forget Ryder. Now the sole ruck, slightly underpriced on what he can produce, I'm likely to pick him.
Watch for Nankervis and Naismith at the Swans as rookie picks.
If Pyke misses a game, who is likely to take his place- Derix, Naysmith or Nankervis? Is there a clear front runner?

Plenty of value in the rucks this year & as usual hard to determine who the standout premiums will be with most of the top priced guys having their fair share of pros & if not cons, question marks.

Two trades a week or not one thing is for sure & that is that I'm not overly interested in starting with the seemingly popular HMac/Sandi combo. One of them for sure, but taking both is just asking to lock in a round of early trading in the rucks when you could be addressing other issues elsewhere.

Haven't heard much on Dericx but Naismith seems to be going ok.

Nankervis is the one I feel is next in line. Played senior footy last year and is almost ready to go. Been talked about the most pre-season and was singled out by Longmire after an intra club game today.

There's also the chance than none of them play if they go with somebody like Tippett as back up ruck.

Anyone considering Dixon, massive upside. Will get game time if fit and is same price as HMac.

I think once we get closer to the start of the season better ruck options will become apparent. That being said he is under priced for what he can deliver, so he may just find his way into my forward line to provide a DPP link.

Just a tip, Lobbe's big scores came after he went on as solo ruckman when Redden went down. We played with both more often than not when fit

Redden out for 8-10 weeks. Lobbe got a bit more interesting

Yes, big time. Longer will not be the number one ruck at St Kilda, they've stated that Hickey will be given first crack with Longer his back up. He hasn't proven himself to be a scorer of any note yet as he's only played a handful of games. Sandi, however, I think the rewards should far outweigh the risks of starting with him.
