Hello AFLTM coaches!

Just like last year, there are three end of season awards up for grabs for AFLTM players. The three awards and the time that these awards will begin are listed below:

AFLTM Rising Star - 7:00pm Monday 8th September
AFLTM All Australian Team - 7:00pm Tuesday 9th September
AFLTM League Best and Fairest - 7:00pm Wednesday 10th September

The rising star award will be a single post, listing all players nominated for the season before counting down the top 5 in the award.

The All Australian team will be released line by line, starting with the full backline. The coach of the year will also be announced as part of this. Likely to take less than an hour.

The League Best and Fairest will be released round by round so be sure to get online during this one if possible as it is likely to run for a couple of hours so there is plenty of time for comments.

Good luck to all coaches, hope one of your players can win an award!

2014 AFL TM Rising Star Award

This award is given to the player who is deemed to be one of the best up and coming stars in the competition. To be eligible for this award the player must be 21 years or younger as of the start of the year as well as played 10 or fewer AFL games at the beginning of the season.

Each week of the AFLTM home and away season, the player who fits the above criteria and has scored the most points for the week is nominated for the Rising Star award if they have not been nominated for the award previously in the season. In the event of a tie, both players are nominated. The Rising Star is awarded to the player who has been nominated for the award during the season and has the most total points for the full AFL year. In the event of two players having the same total points, the higher position will be awarded to the player who has the highest average. If players are still tied then the player who belongs to the team who finished higher on the ladder will be awarded the higher position. Further tie breakers are decided on total goals, disposals, hitouts, marks and then tackles in that order.

Congratulations to all of the young players that were nominated rookies of the week this year and particularly those that have placed in the Rising Star award. Congratulations to James Aish who takes away the title. There is no doubt that the new team Pakenham Packers and their coach CrazyDon have a star of the future in Aish.

2014 AFL TM All Australian Team
Welcome to the AFL TM All Australian selection for 2014. All Australian selection is awarded to players who are deemed to be the best in their position for the season. The team consists of 6 defenders, 6 midfielders, 1 ruck and 6 forwards, with 2 key forwards and 2 key defenders to be selected as part of this starting team. One additional player each from the backline, midfield, ruck and forward line will also be selected on the interchange, meaning a total of 22 players will be selected in the All Australian team.

Selection in this team is based on the number of times a player has been named in the AFLTM Team of the Week in position (ie. Back, Midfield, Ruck, Forward). Players are only eligible to be selected in positions on the field (ie Back, Midfield, Ruck, Forward) that they are able to be selected in the AFL Fantasy competition (once positional changes have been finalised).

To qualify for selection, players must have played at least 15 AFL games during the season and must be on an AFL TM list.

In the case of a tie in the number of nominations between players in the same position, and only one position being available, selection will be awarded to the player/s who have averaged the most points over the course of the AFL home and away season. If players are still tied then the position will be awarded to the player who has played the more games in the AFL home and away season. After this, ties will be broken by the player with who belongs to the higher placed AFLTM team, then the player with the most goals, then disposal, hitouts, marks and then tackles in that order.

A captain and vice-captain will also be selected, with the titles to be awarded to the players who were deemed to be the most consistent high scorers across the season (i.e. combination of high average, games played and number of selections in team of the week).

Finally, the coach of the team will be awarded to the coach with the most Team of the Week selections. If this is tied, then the selection will be awarded to the coach whose team is higher on the AFLTM Ladder.

Full Backline

Back Pocket: Luke Hodge (Geel) – 6 TOTW Selections, 1,846 points in 19 games (Avg 97.2)

Incredibly consistent season from the Hawthorn defender/midfielder, doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

upload_2014-9-9_19-12-10.png

Full Back: Cale Hooker (Prin) – 4 TOTW Selections, 1,670 points in 22 games (Avg 75.9)

A break out year for the newly named Princes Park team. Hooker’s ability to take intercept marks separated him from the rest of the key defenders.

upload_2014-9-9_19-12-15.png

Back Pocket: Pearce Hanley (WV) – 6 TOTW Selections, 1,970 points in 20 games (Avg 98.5)

Had some absolutely huge games in the backline for the Vultures. A huge component of their success this year.

Half Backline

Half Back Flank: Jimmy Bartel (Geel) – 7 TOTW Selections, 2,083 points in 21 games (Avg 99.2)

We are only four selections in and already we have our 2nd cat. Seven TOTW selections was the equal highest in the competition, with Bartel a consistent contributor across the year for Geelong.

upload_2014-9-9_19-13-3.png

Centre Half Back: Jake Carlisle (Alb) – 4 TOTW Selections, 1,370 points in 19 games (Avg 72.1)

Perhaps a little contentious, but the second key defensive spot is filled by the Albury swingman Carlisle. A couple of big games while playing forward propelled Carlisle into several TOTW selections and ultimately the All Australian Team.

upload_2014-9-9_19-13-9.png

Half Back Flank: David Swallow (Prin) in 22 games – 6 TOTW Selections, 2,064 points (Avg 93.8)

Another Princes park defender named in the All Australian team, Swallow was solid all throughout the year, despite never posting a huge score. Expect Swallow to improve even further over the coming seasons.

Centreline

Wing: Jackson Macrae (Bal) – 4 TOTW Selections, 2,192 points in 21 games (Avg 104.4)

The 2nd year midfielder was perhaps the surprise of the season, posting an average over 100 which included some genuinely big scores as the Ballarat number one midfielder. Looks to be an AFLTM player of the future.

upload_2014-9-9_19-20-8.png

Centre: Gary Ablett (Lau) (vc) – 5 TOTW Selections, 1,787 points in 15 games (Avg 119.1)

Can almost pencil in Gary Ablett every year. His injury late in the season curtailed what was building as a fantastic season but nonetheless he had done plenty enough already to earn selection in the team with his huge average of 119.1 earning him vice-captain status.

upload_2014-9-9_19-20-15.png

Wing: Levi Greenwood (Pak) – 4 TOTW Selections, 1,933 points in 19 games (Avg 101.7)

Not the highest average going around, but several huge scores resulted in several TOTW selections and ultimately an All Australian berth for the Pakenham midfielder.

Half Forwardline

Half Forward Flank: Ben McGlynn (Rot) – 6 TOTW Selections, 1,643 points in 16 games (Avg 102.7)

An absolutely fantastic season for the Rottnest small forward resulted in six TOTW selections and one of the biggest forward averages going around.

upload_2014-9-9_19-26-11.png

Centre Half Forward: Lance Franklin (Geel) - 5 TOTW Selections, 1,800 points in 19 games (Avg 94.7)

He may have started slowly, but the Geelong key forward was at his best by the middle of the season, producing some brilliant football to well and truly earn his place in the All Australian team.

upload_2014-9-9_19-26-17.png

Half Forward Flank: Devon Smith (Pak) – 5 TOTW Selections, 1,975 points in 21 games (Avg 94.0)

Another youngster beginning to shine in the AFLTM world, Smith combined his ability to find the ball with a knack of kicking goals to shine brightly for Pakenham this season.

Full Forwardline

Forward Pocket: Dustin Martin (Port) – 5 TOTW Selections, 2,050 points in 21 games (Avg 97.6)

Martin took his game to another level this season, consistently banking good scores for Port Adelaide while spending the more of his time up forward.

upload_2014-9-9_19-36-50.png

Full Forward: Nick Riewoldt (Melb) – 4 TOTW Selections, 2,005 points in 22 games (Avg 91.1)

A brilliant start to the season saw Riewoldt as one of the form players of the competition. He slowed down as the year rolled on but still managed to post some big scores as the Melbourne power forward.

upload_2014-9-9_19-36-57.png

Forward Pocket: Luke Parker (Moz) – 5 TOTW Selections, 2,271 points in 22 games (Avg 103.2)

Went from a good player to a great player this season, playing every game for the Bites and taking his average past the 100 point barrier, easily the best of all the forwards.

Rucks

Ruck: Sam Jacobs (Bris) – 5 TOTW Selections, 2,137 points in 22 games (Avg 97.1)

After a down year in 2013, Brisbane ruckman Sam Jacobs bounced back with style this year to lead the way for ruckmen in the competition despite some stiff competition.

upload_2014-9-9_19-40-29.png

Ruck Rover: Steve Johnson (Port) – 7 TOTW Selections, 1,840 points in 17 games (Avg 108.2)

Had a blistering start to the season and despite cooling off somewhat, managed to be selected in the TOTW the equal highest amount of times, no mean feat for a midfielder.

upload_2014-9-9_19-40-34.png

Rover: Tom Rockliff (Geel) (c) – 6 TOTW Selections, 2,426 points in 18 games (Avg 134.8)

Started off the season sketchy, particularly after a suspension, but by the end of the season there was arguably a new number 1 player in town. A brilliant year from the Geelong midfielder.

Interchange

Backline Interchange: Jarrad McVeigh (WV) – 4 TOTW Selections, 2,138 points in 22 games (Avg 97.2)

The Vultures defender continues to post consistently high scores. Can be relied upon every week to do his bit.

upload_2014-9-9_19-46-57.png

Midfield Interchange: Michael Barlow (Melb) – 3 TOTW Selections, 1,882 points in 17 games (Avg 110.7)

Perhaps overlooked by many, but the Melbourne midfielder’s average of over 110 is enough to scrape in on the interchange, despite only being selected 3 times in the TOTW.

upload_2014-9-9_19-47-3.png

Forwardline Interchange: Brent Harvey (Dra) – 4 TOTW Selections, 1,994 points (Avg 99.7)

The newly branded Dragon Island team (formerly West End) have their first All Australian player in veteran Brent Harvey. He may be nearing the end of his career, but his scores seem to be getting better.

upload_2014-9-9_19-47-9.png

Ruck Interchange: Shane Mumford (Gip) – 5 TOTW Selections, 1,573 points (Avg 92.5)

Big Shane Mumford missed a few games for Gippsland, but when he played he was a colossus, earning the same amount of TOTW nominations as the first choice ruckman but just missing out on a starting spot on averages.

upload_2014-9-9_19-47-14.png

Coach: GeeCat – 16 Wins, 1 Loss during H&A season, 9 TOTW Selections

Controversial, probably missing the Brownlow Medallist !

like most AA teams but that's what it's all about !

Excellent job mate appreciate the effort.
Unbelievably, J.Selwood was only named in two TOTW for the year.

Pity for Goldstein as well.
Goldstein was another who was surprisingly low in the TOTW selections. Only 2 for him as well. Incredibly consistent scorer for a ruck though.

2014 League Best & Fairest

Welcome all 2014 AFL TM League Best & Fairest count. First of all a big congratulations to sante and his Western Vultures on beating GeeCat and his Cats in another Grand Final. That makes it two in a row for both teams and they have certainly set the bench mark for the rest of the competition.

The AFL TM League Best and Fairest award is given to the player who is deemed the best player in the league. For each game played this season 3 votes is given to the player who scored the most points in the game, 2 votes is awarded to the player with the second most points in the game and 1 vote is awarded to the player with the third highest points in the game.

In the event of two or more players having the same score in a match, the tie will be broken by awarding the higher votes to the player from the winning team. If this still doesn't split the players then the tie will be broken by awarding the higher votes to the player with more goals in the match. If players are still tied then the higher votes will be awarded to the player with the most disposals, hitouts, marks and then tackles in that order.

Voting is only conducted for the AFLTM Premiership season Home and Away Rounds which means finals and pre-season games do not count.

After the voting has been completed for all rounds, the player who has accumulated the highest amount of votes for the season will be crowned as the 2014 AFL TM League Best and Fairest. If two or more players are leading on the same amount of votes then the award will be shared amongst all leading vote-getters.

This is the second AFLTM League Best & Fairest ever held with Gary Ablett winning the award in 2013. A quick look at average scores suggest that Ablett will be high in the count again this year, though he will face stiff competition from the likes of Johnson, Pendlebury, Rockliff, Barlow and Lewis. Sidebottom, Priddis, Dayne Beams, Heppell and Joel Selwood also boast very large averages and should feature heavily in the count tonight. Will the winner come from one of those listed above or will someone else steal the show? There is only one way to find out!
