Which member? There were a few of us there last night (although I never ended up at Roma St).
Honestly not sure, we didn't get to introductions. He was a little taller than me (I'm 5' 10"), very short hair, slightly larger gentleman, and as useless as my description is going to be considering the destination, he was wearing jeans, a Lions polo, Lions hat, and a Lions bag. :D

Very nice bloke to speak to though, and obviously has a lot of passion about the club. Possibly the one real identifying clue I have is he is organising a banner for his upcoming high school reunion.

Ah. Rohwan. Interesting bloke.

Just wondering on the whole communications to older members and the person asking the question, if they don't have email how did they get to the members forum? o_O
It was brought up along with a reminder that it was also raised at the AGM. Swann acknowledged it and mentioned that it had been a problem at Carlton and he would take it on board.

I know one lady was told by her friend, I'm guessing word of mouth/younger family who do have email is what got them there.

Don't go selling the oldies too short on the email guys.

I just turned 83...I got email.

My sister is 78...she's got email.

My 2 sons have in laws all in their seventies and they have email.

My daughter's in laws are well into their eighties and have email.

We may be lights of other years but a goodly number of us are still twinkling.:)

Posting regularly on a forum takes about 30 years off, I heard, OD?

83?
From your user name, I thought you'd be really old.

it doesn't mean Aishy has bought a black, red and yellow mouthguard.

Aishy is indigenous??

I thought Ash was the last one we had on the books…

Well, its like this. A carrier pigeon had some messages tied to its legs and then was let go to do a carrier run around to all the oldies.

Got out their gophers, and took themselves off to the forum.

Old fashioned methods often stand the test of time I always say;).

When can I get you to teach my parents? They are barely into their 60s yet still hit their monitor after typing a sentence like its a typewriter.

So buy them a touch screen.;)

NO!

Funny story, they went shopping for a computer WITHOUT ME. Stupidly. They've been burnt before from this. Anyway, they bought some HP all in one Windows 8 Touch Screen abomination.

First issue: OMG WHAT IS THIS WINDOWS 8 CAN YOU PUT XP ON FOR US. Me: :drunk:

Second issue: My parents live on a sheep station out of town. They leave the computer on overnight. They woke up one morning and ALL their 4GB of wireless internet cap was gone. All of it. They had only used 200mb the night before. Couldnt figure out the issue. A few nights later we discovered it. MOTHS.

I swear to God(If there was one) it was bloody Moths. The screen would be off/sleeping, they'd land on the screen, BING screen comes on, Moths get excited, all start landing on it opening all sorts of things. Some of those things happened to be massive updates, programs that wanted to download other things, blah blah.

Ended up with me having to disable their touch screen completely, which wasnt a 100% fix because dad kept reenabling it accidently and the same moths would cause the same issues.

END RANT.

So, Lions Forum sounded like fun!

Yep.I actually used the yellow pages to search for something this week.
We remember the old days.
They were pretty good actually.

Funny you should say that, the way search engines can be manipulated, I often get frustrated when looking for stuff.
Even yellow pages online doesn't give the results I want.
I was looking for a local tree lopper a year or so ago and no matter how specific I was, I'd get a heap of results from up to 100 km away.
Ended up pulling out the local book.:thumbsu:

Oh its been a hilarious experience for me.

Fun fact: Windows 8 does NOT let you toggle the touch screen on/off. You have to go through Device Manager and disable random USB Devices until you get the right now.

Try http://www.truelocal.com.au/

Works for me :)

Old den is a great example. It isnt a case of they cant do it, they just wont or are too scared. My mum was like that. I told her for years computers are easy and it would benefit her heaps if she learnt a thing or two. She resisted and now has only just got on board and regrets not listening to me years ago.

I said it earlier, at some point there has to be some give in both ways. You cant expect the club to do everything if you arent willing to help make communication easier yourself.

In saying this, I realise not everyone can or has the ability to learn, but clearly this is a problem with a decent sized group. Im sure some could or would be able to.
