I have heard BT mention Gilbee before in other games as well. Not just Darcy at play here.

Agree BT has an absolute fascination with him. One of the most overrated players of the past decade he was.

Is he? I've never even heard of anyone talking about him extensively until BT went on his usual wankfest about him

Yes he is. I remember in 2008 when they had that victoria vs all stars match and the best players were selected. Gilbee was being interviewed for an upcoming bulldogs match and the reporters were like were you surprised you werent selected for the vic v all stars match and he was said something along the lined of yeah I think I should have been selected. He had tickets on himself.

Next interview like that day or day later they interview Rodney Eade and he blatantly says he is surprised with Gilbee being discussed as his form has been quite poor of late.

The amount of times commentators gushed over Gilbee and acted like he was a star of the comp was ridiculous. He could kick (brilliant) but did little else, couldn't tackle and had was very poor defensively.

Some may say I'm describing Suckling. Suckers is the better kick and is quicker. Plus noone talks about him being one of the stars of the comp.

When I hear him I always remember the quote that Adelaide Hawk made about him:

It worked better as heard and not written, but Eddie, with less than 3:00 left in the Blues game with the scores level, after Zach Tuohy ignored one teammate and went to another option:

Eddie is actually an entertaining commentator. He calls the game and doesn't BS around like McAvney and co do now.

He is also gets you genuinely excited when the game is close and creates a much better atmosphere to the game than the Channel 7 commentators.

If he is commentating a neutral game then I always enjoy listening to him.
