After listening to what Richardson had to say about our focus this off season and the likelihood that our interest in Greenwood has waned to the point that we're not going after him, I'd like to see us explore the following.

Trade - I know Richo said everyone was happy and wants to stay, but I can't help but feel that McDonough might look at moving back home for more opportunity, I mean if we were going to keep him then surely we would have signed him already. So a trade to Adelaide for their second round pick is something I'd like to get back for him. So McDonough for pick 30

That would give us picks 12, 30, 32, 49, 66 & 83. With those picks here is how I'd draft:

12. Liam Duggan 183cm 76kg Defender/Midfielder
Kid who can slot into a HBF to start off with and then work into the midfield. Brings speed and skill.

30. Nakia Cockatoo 188cm 84kg Defender/Midfielder
Like Duggan above another who can initially slot into a HBF role before working his way into the midfield. I know he is the current hype player and many think he'll go higher than this, but his lack of exposure this year might see him only climb into the middle second round.

32. Connor Blakely 186cm 81kg Midfielder
A kid who has played against men already who could be ready to go from round 1. An inside/outside type. See him as a forward first rotating through the middle.

49. Nathan Drummond 181cm 85kg Utillity
Overaged kid who like Blakely could play early on. Possesses good skills as well as a mix of speed and endurance. Played VFL for us this year.

66. Dean Gore 183cm 86kg Midfielder
A kid who isn't showing up in many Phantoms at the moment, but was early in the year. Comes across as a hard at it inside midfielder who wins contested footy and when he doesn't have it likes to crunch opponents who do have it. Like Blakely has played against men already so gives us another ready made option.

83. Anthony Miles (rookie promotion)

Again this is based on my interpretation of what Richardson has said in the press this week and how we want to improve our midfield depth. With the above we certainly improve on our midfield stocks. The bonus being that all of them would be capable of playing from early next year. It would also mean that we get to use the rookie draft to take a few project KPP types and maybe the odd mature aged player from the state leagues or delisted types.

1. Where did you get the impression our interest in Greenwood has waned? In the interview Dan gave on Trade Radio he seemed very interested. And the rumours are that we have actually tabled an offer. So how you have come to your conclusion is baffling to say the least
2. No way Dean Gore lasts until 66.
3. No way Drummond is a better player than Gore

I can't fathom how Gore isn't in that many Phantoms. He should be off the board by 30.

Drummond is injury prone and an ordinary kick. Can't see him being on our radar.

I think our 3rd rounder should be used on a classy small forward to put at the feet of our talls. Particularly if we play 3 of them.

I suspect he will be. He reminds me a little of Vlastuin though not as tough and average skills.

Drummond scored 26/30 in the kicking test at combine from memory, can't be that bad of a kick.

Dont just assume from a media report that we aren't into Levi anymore.
Not based solely on what the media have said, but also what people away from the media have said. We had a crack at him but when Pies & Dogs got involved we cooled our interest as we don't want to get into a bidding way.

Richo spoke on Trade Week Radio Wednesday/Thursday and as I said above we were interested, but now others with better picks than we're willing to give up are involved we've cooled on the chase. If he picks us it might be different, but for now I think we're happy to go to the draft.

Basing the Gore ratings on how he seems to have fallen of the radar of the phantom draft writers. He might be ranked higher by those who actually do the drafting. Given my ratings are based on what I read from those who do get to watch the kids, that's all I can go off.

The kicking test is the most pointless test there is. They just go through the motions under no pressure and don't have to make the decision for themselves.
I don't know what to say other than when I watched him at Punt Rd his kicking was good enough to get the job done.

A couple of questions for those who've followed this years draft:

Is the current consensus that Ahern will be gone before our pick? And Connor Menadues highlights entice nicely, what's the word on the rest of his game and would it be too much of a reach with our first pick?

A friend of mine is Paul Ahern's cousin and seems to think he will go top 10.

Agree, although the second place getter is a great kick tigs2010 .;):D
Clean hands is also wank .
Not sure that the combine still has any real benefit TBH . Most of those present have been tested numerous times in the previous 12 months .

Shane Nelson wins West Perths BnF.
Thats two years in a row now.

Won the BnF last season when West Perth went all the way.
Won it again this year.
Came second in the Sandover medal this season.
Leading possessions in the WAFL.

This kid can play and has earned his chance I believe. As a rookie I would definitely love to give him a shot.

Where'd you hear that? Don't mind him but there are others I'd prefer. Then again I thought the same about Ellis.
Haven't seen a lot of him play but after reading some of the draft boards it looks like he has a December birthday and a fair bit of talent to work with.

Well is still disagree as we haven't even started trade week yet to actually get into a bidding war. If he wants to play with his mate dusty at a good pay rise on what he was offered, he may just go to the club who was interested in the first place, but I guess we will wait and see.

Who is Jack Hiscox?
Is that a record over the 3km time trial? I love my endurance runners and really wanted Billy Hartung last season.
9:18 is very impressive.

Interesting that Caleb Daneil ran a 16.1 beep but couldnt keep under 10 mins in the 3km.
Just as an aside, the new world record holder for the marathon averaged 9.03 for a 3 k block over the whole 42k...............

Nathan Drummond top 5 in Beep Test, 3k Time Trial, Repeat Sprints, Standing and Running Vertical Jumps. Top 10 in the 20 meter sprint as well.

Wanted him last year and would love him this year. Is quick and has good endurance as well. Would be an upgrade on a few best 22 at the moment such as Grigg, Newman and Foley.

Wouldn't be against Baynham as an International rookie either.

Appears to be rated somewhere between our first and second .
