Weller would have a great highlight reel and does some really classy things. My problem though is that he is not involved enough often enough. He can have games where he takes over but more often you hardly know he is playing for large periods of the game.

His ceiling is right up there given the class he has but his floor is low and I worry about the likely level of output being quite a bit below what I would like from pick 4 or 5.

Quigs out of curiosity if we are picking at five and Mccartin, Petracca, Wright & Brayshaw are off the board, who would you pick?

Very tough question and I am really hoping that we don't have to make the choice. I personally trade down or out of the spot. The guys I like more are going to go a bit further down and I would be trying to grab them and get something else as well. The two in particular that I like are Lamb and Glenn and Glenn in particular would suit our needs. If we stuck I would probably go with Durdin or Pickett although I think we would be overpaying at 5.

I understand not many are huge fans of "The Recruit" but Chris Moreland ran a 15.3 beep test on last nights episode. He is the ultra-competitive bloke 24 years old I think, he could genuinely become a small defender we are now lacking since Golby has dropped off. He seems like he has got the competition wrapped up IMO

He's one of the few I'd have from the show, and we'd probably get him for next to nothing. I do wonder though as a publicity exercise that the 'Recruit' signing would be a bigger deal for a traditional footy state club as they are likely to get the most mileage from the post show transition interest.

Until all the trades get sorted we are really up in the air with who we draft, if manage to pull in both Ryder and Beams, you'd think our first two picks would be gone and the academy kids/father/sons take up most of the rest. What a change compared to this time last year :).

Am I alone in thinking we need to find ourselves a small defender in the draft. I feel like we don't have a guy who can run with the best small forwards in the game.

No, your not alone on that one.

There's a couple in the VFL who I feel could step straight in and do just that.

I don't think we would be very interested in Ryder. We have plenty of good ruckmen at the moment

I was thinking the same until today.

Now I'm looking at it as we have 2 great ruckmen- Martin and Luey
Plus West who will struggle to play seniors next year due to recovery from his acl injury.
We have Merrett who is underwhelming in the forward line.
So Ryder for pick 20 = the best fwd on our list
Merrett to move back to defence/2s/trade
Get West fit and on trade him next year.

= massive win for us

Ruthless. There's a role for you in list management.

You need a spare ruck so West has to stay on our list.

For those that don't see much point in getting Ryder, go have a look at his highlights this year you might change your mind. And for pick 20 his an absolute bargain. Mitch Clark got us pick 12, so you'd say Ryder would be worth slightly better than that on the open market. In Ryder's case Essendon are hamstrung so a pick 20 while not fair might have to do.

We have Archie on our list, hopefully in another 12 months he will be capable of covering/stepping up when required
