Lester can break into our best 22. Don't forget he can play down back and up forward. You need to hold onto Lester because he has 50+ games of experience under his belt. For the future we need to hold on to guys like Lester, just in case one of our younger players decide to leave (e.g. Polec, Yeo, Docherty, Longer).

If we ran our club on this principal, we would never get above 10th.

I reckon it's the correct way to go. I wish the club would of hold onto guys like Henderson and Riscatelli, than maybe we would have been a chance of playing finals rather then trading out experienced loyal players. We all know where that got us.
Henderson and Riska both wanted out, although for different reasons. It's hard to hang onto players who are out of contract and want to leave.

No they didn't. Henderson was traded out for the Fev deal. Henderson was open to the move back home, but he would of also been comfortable remaining at the Lions. Riska only left because the club tried to trade him out for Fev and he had a year left in his contract at that time. 12 months later he wins our Best & Fairest, hence ending up at Gold Coast because how the club treated him.

The club tried to move Rischa on after it was known that he was going to the Suns.

Riska was already in talks with the Gold Cowst before he was offered to Carlton.

I am familiar with the circumstances of both departures. Henderson wanted to get back to Melb and would have walked anyway and Riska was pissed. My point in response to your post as to why we didn't keep them was that we ultimately had little choice in the matter.

Lets not bring up the whole Fev thing again, it is dead and buried. You can pick and choose your own version of history. If you run with the popular mainstream media version we shopped bradshaw and riska around, it pissed them off and they left. Hendo also sacrificed for Fev.

Anyone who knew anything at the time knew Riska was heavily rumoured to be going to the Suns already, and had been previously linked to the Dons. He was heading off and we did no damage in trying to trade. Bradshaw was always a bit of a mercenary, and the ebtire time he had a 1 year contract to stay with us. He wanted more and ended up leaving, Fev or not he probably would have walked because we werent moving from the 1 year offer. The only thing that was hurt there was his relationship with Voss because Voss wasnt up front with him.

Hendo couldnt put his hand up quick enough when the Fev trade came about. He might have stayed but he was also more than happy to go.
Now can we stop playing it out like Riska and Bradshaw were 2 innocent babies who were mercilessly shopped arounded and treated like garbage and move on from it.

Sorry but this is a crock of shit. Please try and know something about what you post.

Henderson put his hand up for trade when he saw his forward time would be impacted by Fevola coming into the club:

Brisbane didn't put me up for it but I spoke to Vossy (coach Michael Voss) on Thursday night and then again on Friday morning after the decision was made.
"He said they didn't want to lose me but it was my choice and he would understand either way. So from there it came down purely to opportunity.

"When I first heard about bringing Fev up north I knew it would put me out for a couple of years. From there Ricky pushed it and was fantastic."

Very strong rumours (plus verification from a reuptable poster on here - word direct from both club CEO's) had Rischitelli already out the door previous to that attempted trade.

To add to the circumstantial evidence, Rischitelli was the one who knocked back the Carlton trade (not Bradshaw, who was reportedly the one most pissed off) because they were demanding that he sign a contract extension past the end of the following year.

The Flying Belgian

"Nakia Cockatoo with 29/30 in Kicking Test. He's had a fair week! #AFLCombine"

While the kicking test isn't great, it is hard not to be excited by his performance at the combine, in combo with the all-stars game, especially given he virtually missed the whole year. I figure his attitude must be promising to rehab that well.

I'm hoping we hold on to our 2nd rounder to have a shot at him, although I suspect he may go as early as the teens now.

Numpty question: was NT not effectively zoned to GWS, or was that just for the initial zone selections? Ping dlanod.

Repeat sprints: 23.93 (fastest?)
Standing vertical jump: 73cm (5th)

Think he was top 5-ish in running vertical jump too.

I'm hoping we end up somehow with a mick in mid-late teens and have a chance at getting Reece McKenzie or Cockatoo.

from the report McKenzie seems to be a big body pack crashing forward that would complement our harder running/lighter bodied young forwards like Close and Freeman (and maybe Hammelman) well. Cockatoo as noted above looked really good in that all stars game and would provide heaps of run.

I guess the only way is if Patfull leaves though.

The last year that applied to was 2013. NT boys are fair game now.

Where are the combine stats posted? Thanks.
I don't think they've been neatly collated yet. I've seen them scattered around twitter and the AFL website. They'll be up here eventually.

So not in the top 10 - Cockatoo seems more like a burst speed player with a reasonable sized body for a kid... Kind of reminds me of a poor mans Dangerfield

All the top 10s from yesterday are here: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-02/cockatoo-flies-in-sprints

Abso freaken lutely

We have a crap load of cap space. Throw some of it his way and get him signed. The kid will be a star.

Can we sign a second category B rookie?

EDIT: Just remembered that we signed Colm Begley and Brendan Quigley in the same draft, so I assume yes.
