Even pick 1?? I have not seen a lot of Patton but he is a big unit.

If we had pick 1 and were going after Patton I would look at possibly trading down a couple of places to get another pick in the teens.

Patton was also a pick 1 and has had a few years development. Why take the mystery box when the washer/dryer is perfect?

What if it came down to Wright or Patton? Taking into considering that Patton has had a knee reco.

Patton has also shown he is a true competitor at AFL level and not just a manchild dominating juniors. Wright will have that question mark until he plays AFL footy. He's also had some back issues.

Yep fair enough. I would love to have Patton on our list. I can't see it happening though unfortunately.

If we win less than 4 games given what has been happening would we get a compo pick?

There is no automatic priority pick. Clubs have to make a submission to the AFL now stating their case.

I imagine our case would be based heavily around being forced to rebuild during the compromised drafts and for the loss of the go home 5. Best case scenario would be end of first round I reckon.

I would take Wright over Patton, Patton's already done a knee and you can just see him doing it again as his such a big unit and the pressure on his knee would be immense, you can guarantee if we recruited him he'd do his knee for sure .

Dont kill my dream early! :)

You're dream is that we are so pathetic we need a priority pick? There's a game late in September that I'd like to one day win again.

The thing for me is Melbourne is also desperate for key forward.

I don't wan to tank, but we really need the best key forward available in the draft.

I can see a positive in finishing last, although if that happened, the AFL would hand Melbourne a priority anyway because they are obsessed with screwing us.

Melbourne are okay for for KPFs. Hogan is still to come in for them and he is a massive talent. He and Dawes are fine and certainly better than anything we have.

Also worth noting that the AFL has said this week that any pick would be after the first round. I think the days of giving away the top pick are gone.

They will still try an get a KPF irrespective if they have Dawes and Hogan.

Speaking of off-field appointments, word is Greg Swann at Carlton could be on his way out. I don't know a great deal about him, but he is a pure football administrator that would come with a wealth of experience and IMO would be worth chatting to.

If we got an end of first round priority pick we'd probably be forced to spend it on Dawson anyway.

FAKE EDIT: Or are priority picks immune from the bidding rules?

Compo picks are immune, not clear on priority picks. Given the whole damn system is at the discretion of the AFL, I'm pretty sure they can just make it up as they want.

The game vs Melbourne later in the year could turn out to be an interesting one and I am not for losing it to get pick 1.

There is no clear cut No1 like previous years. Wright is getting spoken about but he is not as clear cut as Boyd, Patton or Whitfield. Wright is also not a true KPF but can play the ruck/forward role. At Tac Cup level he plays forward as there others who play the ruck position. It is early days yet and even though it looks like the world is caving in I don't think we will finish last. Second last maybe! It is a very strong draft KPP wise and we should get a good one with our pick. Hammelman is doing well at the moment so we can most probably be safe to say that we will have depth at both ends of the ground at the end of thai years draft but will have to wait a number of years to see it come to fruition.

Looking at our list and age profile Hanley, Luey and Zorko are 25 and the 3R's are 23. Players above that should and will most probably be phased out over the next 2/3years. After this years draft mids, mids, mids and more mids.

I think the selectors this year will do what Melbourne did and trade our picks for ready made players mainly because we had 7 picks last year, i'd say we'd be looking at a Key forward (Patton), key defender (Talia) and a 2nd key forward who can play in the ruck (Gorringe who was pick 12 but cant get a game because of nicholls)

If possible we need to do similar to what Melbourne did... no, not tank for picks, i'm talking about trade pick 2 for a Dom Tyson. We have Aish, Taylor, Robbo and Cutler, who all look like decent players, even if they won't be elite talents, at this early early early stage they look like they will be regular 22. If we can nab some good talent, that has already had a few years in the system, that would be ideal. Someone who can come in and become part of the best 22 very quickly. Ideally that would be a KPF, i think we have enough young midfield talent to work with this year and next year that we could really go all out on a Patton.
